Simple, down-home, wood fire grilled steak. My only regret is that I wasn't there long enough to go again.

Great western ambiance in an otherwise desolate area. This is an outdoor restaurant with shade but in summer....hot. Steaks and fixins were spot on. We visited on a Saturday night and it was packed but no waiting. Summer season brings tourists from all over the world to see Monument Valley so expect a lot of European accents and good people... We stayed at the San Juan Inn, which was nice and had dinner at the Swinging Steak. The menu is very simple. Steaks and burgers ..., grilled Texas toast, ranchero beans and tossed salad come with everything. I ordered the burger which was perfectly medium rare....excellent!..... and my husband had the veggie burger which he said was also very good.

We stopped here and had a flat iron steak as recommended by the owner. The steak was good. It came with beans and salad. Was expensive for what we got.

It's a small place in a small town, and the prices reflect a captive audience, but it's worth the cost! The steak is cooked to perfection, and if you're open to conversation, the chef and the owner are free entertainment with an interesting perspective and some fantastic quips. A must stop if you're staying or passing through Mexican Hat. We'll... More

We camped during Spring Break near Mexican Hat and at the time, there were only 2 places open in the small town to eat. We decided to check this place out. The seating is outdoors. It got cool when then sun went down and the owners had heat lamps around, so no big deal. As others have stated the menu... More

Great place to enjoy the atmosphere that is Mexican Hat, UT. A couple Navajos run the place and cook your dinner on a large flat grill swinging over ferocious hot coals - great atmosphere, especially around dusk. The steaks and other fare are not cheap - to be expected given its remote locale. But hubs' steak and my burger were... More

Had high hopes for the steak dinner out on the patio - - the "Swingin Steak". And the grill was swinging, but the atmosphere out there was DEAD. Maybe a 1/3 to 1/2 full - no music except what we could hear out of the grill cook's little radio, no conversation from wait staff. I expected a more lively fun... More

There was nothing wrong with our food - there's just no choice. You get steak or burger, salad, pinto beans and garlic bread. That's it! And for the expensive price, I would have liked my children to have had a choice. Surprise...they don't eat salad! Also, the three staff couldn't cope, even though the place wasn't that busy. Since it's... More

To quote Aristotle: “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” The swingin steak is one of those places. It has been a while since I was at the Swingin Steak but I plan to return this fall for another visit on one of my grand motorcycle adventures. I still think fondly of my last visit and I"m... More
