We eat here every time we camp at Martin Dies State Park. Great family style restaurant. The chicken is always hot and crispy, the sides are good and the atmosphere is family friendly. It's fun to gather a group of camping friends around the long tables to enjoy laughs and good food.

This is a historic place and the food is one reason why. It's served at the table in bowls and you get what you want to put on your plate.fried chicken and all the fixings. It's delicious.

The place makes great chicken and dumplings, all you can eat. There is no menu, and you are served everyday: dumplings, fried chicken, greens, beans of some sort, biscuits and corn muffins and mashed potatoes. The dumplings are excellent, the biscuits are flat and tasteless, the mashed potatoes are eh, and there is better chicken at a hometown place 30... More

It has been more than 10 years since we have been here but I crave the fried chicken every day. It is as close to what mom made as any ever.

The food was very good, probably some of the best chicken I have ever had as were the dumplings. Desert was excellent also. The lady who brought the food was very nice. The only negative I have is that the lady that took our money was very unwelcoming to us. I told her we would like the senior citizen discount... More

Offers some of the best fried chicken I have ever eaten. Food served boarding house style is all you can eat. If you leave hungry you can only blame yourself. Peach cobbler is real old fashioned style. GREAT! Worth visiting just to look at the old circus marquee posters.

The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent. There is a museum to visit so after a great meal, of all you can eat, you can walk off some of the calories!!

After hearing about this place for years and how wonderful it was, we went out of our way on vacation to visit Pickett House and unfortunately it was not as expected. The place is hard to find but it was clean. Based on what they serve I expected to sit in grandmas dining room not at group picnic tables. The... More
