Wonderful place with a wonderful history. Before the RR overpass, they had an ideal location. Great BBQ have kept them in business even though you will not notice the place unless you're looking for it. In April 2017, Vencil Mares continues to preside even from his wheel chair. A delightful Veteran.

Place looks like a dump! Get inside, sit down and order some of the best BBQ in Texas. Large portions, delicious food. Even the sides are great. Friendly staff, especially Vencil Mars, the owner. I traveled Williamson and Travis Counties on business, and it was amazing how many times I wound up in Taylor at lunch time.

We all came on a Sat afternoon, the atmosphere is great and staff are friendly and accommodating. The food was good and extremely well priced. It's like being at a backyard bbq because they serve you with paper plates and forks! Nothing fancy about it, just go and eat and enjoy the conversation! A lot of tourists!

Great food with excellent service. Vencil Mars is the owner and greets everyone that comes through the doors. He is a WWII veteran and a pleasure to talk to. The waitresses are very friendly and competent. Had a great time and a very enjoyable lunch there.

We came to Taylor to check out three BBQ places. This place had comparable meat to the others but the sauce is outstanding. The other two places either super sweet or very thin sauce. The price for 2 meats, potato salad, and beans is $9.00 whereas the others were $12.50 and $16.00. The amount of meat was the same. If... More

5th Gen native Texan here so I know what the heck is good or bad on BBQ. And I'm not talkig about what I like as BBQ and the Sides are very subjective. One mans pinto beans rock while the next guy swears by baked beans etc. Elgin sausage or Eckridge etc etc? I hate to dis a place but... More

Heard this place was great. On the way in a leaving customer cautioned us it was over rated. He was right... Overall looked dirty, Tabes uncleared Took forever to get food. Very disapointed

Have enjoyed Vencil's BBQ for over 30 years. Nothing fancy. Just good straightforward Texas BBQ from a man who's been cranking it out for nearly 70 years. Like the beef and the regular sausage, but LOVE THE TURKEY SAUSAGE. Always take a couple of pounds back to Austin to share with my daughter. Absolutely delicious with white bread and Vencil's... Very substandard. Smoking allowed. Food disappointing. Graffiti in restroom. Scary atmosphere. We will not be back and advise others the same.

Step into the door and you step back in time. This is a rustic place with history. Established in 1949 by a World War II Veteran, Vencil Mares. Come in and talk with Vencil. Get some barbecue and a cold beer too! The service is Texas friendly and the bbq is good.
