We left Sugar Land nearly 30 years ago, but never forgot the seafood symphony that is Captain Benny's on nearby Murphy Road. Start with oysters on the half-shell, fresh and cold with a blissful hint of the sea. Then move ahead to a cup or bowl of the best Cajun gumbo west of Louisiana, spicy with a perfect balance of... I've been eating oysters at Captain Benny's since the original shrimp boat was the only one..the price has gone up from those days, but the high quality of the food has remained the same (although, how could fresh raw Gulf oysters get any better). The Murphy Road location is closest to my folks' house, so we go there. They also... More

Business associate and I were looking for a restaurant to eat dinner at and came up Captain Benny’s. What caught our eye was the lighthouse out in front of the restaurant (designed as a boat). The restaurant has been around a while and looked like a lot of locals frequent it. Sign I believe said it was established in 1967.... More

Ate here late on a Saturday night. Parking was full which is always a good sign. Counter seating only unless you eat outside. Don't plan on eating inside if you are 3 or more. Never ate in a restaurant shaped like a boat with sloped floors...This is as kitschy as it gets and I loved it. The Gumbo was outstanding... More

This is a great place for fresh seafood, there gumbo is great also. Parking is very difficult due to small lot, but the food make it worth it

Benny's is not fine dining, and you have to sit at a bar stool unless you want to sit outside. But the staff is friendly and attentive and the food is simple, tasty and not at all greasy. They knew which dishes were gluten free and the soups and desserts were also nice. The broiled fish dishes (flounder and tilapia)... More

This was our first time here, and we had no idea what we were getting into. We were surprised to see that all indoor seating is at a counter and the majority of it is at the bar. They also have outdoor seating but that wasn't really a viable option at 5:00 pm on a hot July day. Anyway, getting... More

This is not the place you would take a prom date or celebrate your anniversary. The only tables are outside. Inside, you sit at a bar. However, the food is great. We had the Boudin Balls and Jalapeno Boudin for starters, followed by the fried catfish. Everything was very good. It looked like everyone else was enjoying their meals also.... More

The parking isn't good, but the food is always good and also Oyster's are very good on the half shell. Very good place to eat.

Best Seafood in the city. Best prices too. Boiled and fried shrimp are the best anywhere. Oysters on the half shell are the best with a low price.
