Had not been to Herbert's since my days at UT, many years ago, it was better than I remembered it. Food just outstanding. No frills place but great Mexican Food.

Never had a bad experience in 30 years of hitting this local destination. I have been in big groups, small groups and as a couple, always satisfying. You may have to wait, since it is a small restaurant, but it is worth it. They are prompt with service, not overly talkative, but serve fresh hot food fast and at a... More

I went to college in San Marcos in 1976 😲 and was there when Herbert's first opened. I loved their food then and still do! I eat at Herbert's often - whenever I am visiting friends in the area and can honestly say it is my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in the world! The place literally hasn't changed (with the exception... We were in San Marcos for a ball tournament and a dad who had grown up in San Marcos told us the best place in this area of Texas for TexMex is definitely Herbert's. Of course, we had to try it. Had breakfast tacos...They were fresh and hot and oh so tasty. The salsa is homemade and yummy. Will definitely... More

Years ago is was a good greasy spoon for cheesy TexMex food. Since the kids took over the quality of the food and service have steadily gone down hill

The most authentic Mexican I have ever had above the border. Cool little funky spot recommended by locals. The refried beans were to die for! I couldn't stop complimenting our waitress how happy we were.

This place has been there forever. Good Mexican food at good prices. Daily specials. Everything is good, and of course you cannot go wrong with Taco's!

We visit this place often after paddling the San Marcos River. It is small and cramped inside but we sit and wait to get inside every time. Everything I've tried has been delicious and the beer is always extra cold.

This place never disappoints. You might look at the building and wonder if you should go in. Just look at the line and the cars outside and that should tell you something. Definitely go for the enchiladas and sweet tea. Only negative with this place is there bathroom. Super small...don't know how they get away with that because it is... More

From out of town trying this place for the 1st time. The staff member was extremely helpful and friendly in helping me decide what to get for my carryout meal. They are known for their enchiladas and I was not disappointed
