So we almost looked like Migrants trying to get to food before the dinner rush on a Saturday at 5:45 PM..."Look, parking spaces at Olive Garden, must not be packed yet", so our three packed carloads pulled into the lot...a real test of the restaurant...with kids, giant men, frayed women and Papa who just had to cancel his trip to India because of infirmity. What has not been said about OG? Answer: Nothing. One noted that it was a very good corporate restaurant...that is the best review in the fewest number of words. However, I will press on to mention a few things. First, the place is like a horse that has been 'rode hard' by all of the turnover. The carpet was new around the walls but had a compressed look from thousands of clomping feet mashing in the dinner remnants from the previous eaters. The waiters looked tired but still cranked out dinners , cleaned off plates and noted how wonderful we all looked as my two year old grand daughter spilled a large glob of Italian pasta (Five cheese marinara, good but rich and sweet so it can be too much) onto the floor and tried to look up with innocence resembling an extra in an horror movie with 40 percent of her face covered in red sauce. As Papa, I slipped into the pleasant role of master provider as my son and son in laws finished off the excellent meat sauce, meat ball spaghetti and several lasagna that were as good as any in this town. They started with numerous orders of Lasagna Fritta, Calamari, Bruschetta and four bread baskets. Then went on to the main courses allowing me, without a growl, to take a dainty taste of at least 20 items on the menu (Chicken Parmigiana not rubbery with the texture resembling chicken)...all good. Rich fattening creamy sauces which are followed an hour later with concern over your health and discomfort. The salad bowl, four needed, was very good even though I do not generally graze. My daughter ordered a desert but it was tasted away so we got six more, all good...The long of it is that the food is good, reasonable considering the real inflation rate, service good enough considering the turnover (packed line when we walked out) Italian food rich american style and our noise level was more than matched by table neighbors. No, this does not reach the level of the best Italian Restaurant in Dallas (on Midway) which would have strained our friendship if these noisy lawn mower type eaters were to go there. However, OG is very good, everyone was pleased with the meals...and wine.More
