Dinner at The Sam Houston’s award winning *17 restaurant was a simple affair, by 8pm there was only one cover left and I took a table at the opposite side ~the limited menu tells me the selection was intended to impressed so I started with a staple -Smokey Tomato Soup wasn’t exactly how I expected, it was super hot as... Not super-impressed by this restaurant or the Sam Houston Hotel, in general. Appears as though the decorators tried to create a contemporary atmosphere inside a historical hotel. Although the bold red architectural accents and ecstatic patterns of its interior are meant to "Wow!" guests, its traditional pictures of Sam Houston, the American politician and soldier, who brought Texas into the... The food was fair at best but the service was horrible. Definitely skip this place at all costs, not worth eating here. No idea how anyone could like the food.

Breakfast tacos were fantastic. We also had the Huevos Rancheros and breakfast potatoes. All were excellent. Extremely reasonable as well. Definitely a great spot.

We were there for an early dinner, so it was nice and quiet, and the service was fast and friendly. My husband thought his chicken sandwich was excellent. I had salmon; it was a nice generous piece but was too salty. I would go back again.

Had friends refer us here that had eaten the day before and said it was the best burger he'd had in along while. Guess we had a different cook because the burger wasn't anything to write home about. Not sure if we would go back.

We had the breakfast buffet and was served by the nicest gentlemen yesterday morning, June 1st. Don't remember his name but shout out to him for treating us like royalty.

We were trying to find a restaurant which would allow you to bring in your own wine and this one did. I guess it's a Texas liquor licensing issue - not a problem in Calif. "17" allows this, which was great. Our red wine paired very well with the luscious steaks served there. The service was attentive. We had eaten... More
