Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We got delicious goodies and wonderful pumpernickel bread, which is getting harder to find. I lived in Germany near the border with France and this is not a European bakery, but instead caters to local customers. Still delicious and reasonably priced. Friendly staff.

When visiting or just driving through Castroville, Haby's is a place that you must stop in. The donuts are the best I have ever had - I mean that. Their pies and coffee cakes are also yummy. Their baked breads take you back to an earlier time. I love this small town bakery.

Another one of my favorites! I moved away years ago but when I visit home this is a must stop. Breads, cookies, brownies, donuts, oh my! Decisions, decisions! Saturday mornings are busy but stop by and you will understand why. They have the yummiest of yummies! If only I could buy 4-5 of everything!

One of the reasons we came to Castroville was to go to this bakery. There were two ladies working the counter when we walked in. We were greeted by the friendlier younger lady, but then we looked around and she was busy by the time we knew what we wanted. The older of the two women waited on us, and she was anything but friendly. What a grouchy expression on her face and very curt. We purchased a cinnamon roll with raisins, which was good, but it definitely was not the best I have ever had. My mother's is better, to be honest. The Texas cookie was a huge disappointment. It didn't taste fresh at all. We have not tried the bread yet, which was the third thing we purchased. It definitely is not a traditional bakery, and I have been to much better ones in Europe and in Boston. We would not return and cannot recommend.

I bought an apple fritter and it was amazingly good. It's a good thing I live 200 miles away or I would gain a lot of weight buying more.

Very friendly staff; delicious bakery items; large selection; off-street parking... in quaint little Castroville (an Alsatian-heritage town).

Always the very best bakery for more than 40 years. Never disappoints. A lot of items sell out by noon. All of their breads are great, especially like the Indian Health Nut bread. .

Very disappointing! Purchased 4 items….none tasted fresh and this was 10:30 in the morning! Lots of choices….maybe I just chose wrong!

We bought pumpernickel and two baguettes and resisted the rest. The bread was exceptional. We were passing thru but hope to be there again and we will sample more.

We didn't go until 2:30 in the afternoon, not much left. We did buy a couple of delicious pastries. Go earlier than we did.

Great bakery with a huge selection of baked goods - breads, cakes, cookies, pastries. They have day old at discount prices.

Stopped in to see the famous Alsatian bakery I read about. It did not disappoint. Bought 2 pastries and a coffee for about $3. And they were fresh and delicious!
