We stopped there since it was open for lunch at 3pm as we were traveling through Texas. The Saturday lunch special was huge portions of roast beef and gravy, new potatoes, salad, and choice of beans or spinach, with homemade bread from the bakery across the street. The spinach was fresh baby leaves in butter sauce - unexpected and excellent!... More

The service was very good. It was 7:30 pm and I was hungry for something light after a big lunch. Breakfast turned out to be a bad idea. The Alsatian (beef) sausage was tasty, but the sunnyside up eggs were not sunny. The inside was once cute but badly needs an update. Floor is worn and the tables and benches... More

Stopped in for dinner on a weeknight. We were totally ignored at front area, but our young waitress was friendly. This is clearly a local favorite....always busy. Food and menu are predictable diner fare. Edible, but certainly not great. Acceptable for a quick meal and back on the road.

We stopped in this afternoon for a snack after walking around town for a couple of hours. There was no one in the place when we arrived, but still we waited so long for a server that my husband finally got up to ask for menus. He ordered chicken tenders from the appetizer menu, and I ordered a piece of... More

On a Sunday morning in Castroville, after attending a church service at the St. Louis Catholic Church (place you have to visit, quite beautiful and historic), I stopped into Sammy's for breakfast. The building itself is dated, as is their dining room, bathroom, and bar area, but don't let that fool you. The service and meal were both very good.... More

Excellent quick, customer service. We ordered the Mexican plate and Taco Salad. Highly recommend both. Great flavor on both dishes. Prices very reasonable for the amount of food. Good variety of menu choices. We live about 1/2 hour away so will be returning to try other dishes.

We travel to San Antonio from SW Texas often and whenever the time is right, we always stop at Sammy's. Good old fashioned "Ma and Pop" restaurant. Nothing fancy about the decor, service, or food, it's just plain good. I grew up on the East Coast many years ago and thought I would never see Fried Oysters on a menu... More

I have been wanting to stop and eat here for awhile. Everyone I pass by, the parking lot is packed! I enjoyed an ice traditional breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon. You really can't mess that up LOL!! However, what makes this place unique, is the morning conversation the local farmers exchange. I really like this place. The wait staff... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by Dziuk's Meat Market. The place is great. Simple but well prepared dishes. The place to go. Excellent value for money.
