Stopped in for an impromptu meal with the kids on the way home from a massive day on the lake. Ordered at 7pm and then the wait began… At 7:30, after two tables that arrived after us got their meals, I checked to see how...it was travelling thinking it wouldn’t be far off. They said another 10 minutes. At 7:45 I checked again to find only one meal and a bowl of chips was ready, and the kids meal and a salad would still be 10 minutes away… At 7:50 we asked for it to be take away which then at 7:55 very sheepish person from the kitchen came out with half our money back in cash and the bag of take away food as we were leaving, and finally offered some truth that the kitchen missed our order. I get mistakes happen, but it’s how you address the mistake and make amends is how your measured. Yes we got some of our money back, but some honesty and apology for the mistake would have gone significantly further… Would avoid at all costs if you value honesty and integrity. Last thing to note, got home to find both meals were inedible with some strange tastes going on in both meals…. Just spent the last 1/2 hour convincing my son he wasn’t poisoned but fair to say, both ‘meals’ got binned which was a bout of our lives we unfortunately won’t get back…More

We had a wonderful experience straight after we walked into it. The historical building took us back in time adding to the overall impression. The staff was supper friendly and attentive. The dishes we ordered were superb and plenty of it. My tomato minestrone soup...was spot on. Their PUMPKIN PARMA was better than any other vegetarian parma my son-in-law ever tried before. Also, the TIGER PRAWN LINGUINE was very nice.More

The venue never dissapoints HOWEVER Slow food service appears to be the norm at this venue. We waited over one hour for our lunch meal at a 2pm booking. By the time our meal arrived only three tables of dining guests remained. Anotjher friend experienced...a 45 minite wait on a week day. I hope the managers take note of my comments as the worda ppears to be spreading about the long unduly wait for mealsMore

Fresh country air encourages hearty appetites. The Grand's serves are very large, and the parmas are a meal in themselves. The dining room accommodates both locals and visitors. Beverages on tap include a variety of beers. Yarra Glen is the heart of the rich Yarra...Valley wine region. You may like to sample these well-known wines.More

The Tower Suite (Room 4): four floors (I’m counting the rooftop as a floor) with 360o views of Yarra Valley deserves more than an overnight stay - so you can indulge in an activity on each level. Prosecco on your private roof platform, coffee on...level 3, read the paper on level two and a beer on the verandah with any other guests lucky enough to have a verandah room. I enjoyed the live Friday night band in bed, drowning out the busy highway traffic out front. I enjoyed a soaking bath - but didn’t look closely at the mould in the tiles - and seriously - you can dive into the incredible towels! The bed is so comfortable and the pub fare is good - although this really is a pizza and Parma pub. The staff are sweet - didn’t see anyone standing around - and they all had tea towels hanging from their back pockets😊. This place is fun - not fancy.More

We were staying in Yarra Glen, so we decided to have dinner at the Yarra Valley Grand on Saturday night. It's an impressive old hotel, which serves hearty pub-style meals. My parma with chips and salad was very generous; no-one complained.

In town on a holiday and had dined at a flash restaurant the night before and had been disappointed so we went with a local suggestion of the Grand pub. Very happy we did! The staff could not have been more accomodating or friendly and...the delicious food was served quickly upon ordering, even though we arrived earlier than our booking. Special mention to the maître de who even found us a quieter table in a room with an open fireplace even though we hadn’t asked to be moved from the front bar. Thanks for a great evening!More

My wife and I were staying in The Yarra Valley Grand Hotel during our recent holiday in Yarra Valley, so we decided to have our dinner here. My wife had Tiger Prawns with Linguine while I had a Porterhouse Steak with vegetables, chips and pepper...sauce. The food was good. Service was okay. Prices are a bit steep especially with the 10% surcharge for Easter Monday. Around $100 including drinks for the two of us.More

Many thanks to the chef and staff at the Yarra Glen Hotel for providing excellent food and service for my daughter's 45th birthday. All our 26 guests complimented us on the choice of venue, the standard of the food and the helpful service. The staff...set the dining room up in advance to our requested format and provided drinks and food as ordered. The food was plentiful and the atmosphere relaxed. The restaurent looked after our birthday cake and helped with the service. We are so pleased that we chose the Yarra Valla Grand for this event.More

booked for 6.30, ordered at 7, finally got first 2 meals - parma & pasta, (after asking twice) at 8.33, than another 2 meals, pie & calamari five minutes later then another meal, pizza, 10 minutes later. They forgot about the 6th meal, another parma,...completely so we didn't get that until after 9.pm. Pie was advertised as cheesy mash with chicken, bacon & vegies w/ side salad $26.00. Was 3/4 mash with melted cheese on top, 6 chunks of chicken & 4 tiny pieces of carrot, no other vegies, no pastry, bacon was salty pieces. Calamari was really salty & 2nd parma was only 1/2 the size of the first (maybe running out so they were halving them?). Not worth the wait, wished we had gone elsewhere.More

“Join us for lunch or dinner in our private dining room, family bistro or all weather beer garden. “ was their advertising on Facebook so we booked seating in the private dining room .. weeks in advance. What a massive mistake , we arrived and...were seated outside even though l had requested the private dining area in the booking . After looking at all the available tables inside we were advised that they were all booked and we would be offered one if they became available. Why would l need to wait and see when l booked in advance? The tables inside sat vacant for the duration of our meal whilst we travelled past them to purchase drinks there was absolutely nothing about this lunch today that felt like we were dining out in comfort . I’ve stayed here before and eaten here as well , a few times and the ambiance is great inside especially near the fireplaces but if you happen to be foisted outside as we were today you are in for a fairly unpleasant time. We were a group of 9 adults seated outside amongst families with young children which as you would expect was fairly boisterous and not anywhere near what we were wanting in terms of a nice friendly place to sit and celebrate. If l wanted to dine in this way l could easily have saved us all the 1.5 hour trip and gone to the local food court at Westfield . To have to make your way inside past the empty tables , through the billiard room and then past the bar to order food and then stand in line at the bar afterwards for drinks was a chore . Apparently the owner Craig Barnett made some improvements during the lockdown but lm really not sure where those improvements were made . The staff were fairly unconcerned about our disappointment today and pretty much seemed like we should be grateful we were getting a seat at all. When you show contempt toward customers that observe and accept the situation because they have no choice at short notice to find another venue you are asking for reviews like this . Last time l checked it was the paying customer keeping the hospitality businesses going but to observe today’s tactics you wouldn’t think that was the case. To be that ambivalent about the customer experience is shortsighted. The food is over priced and lacks proper attention to detail . There’s no cutlery on the tables or any serviettes. It’s like your eating at a park bbq area . We had to ask for cutlery , serviettes and salt and pepper . Some of the entrees and mains came together 🙄 after the food arrived we found the Warm bread and oil touted as mount zero olive oil and warm sourdough bread actually did not resemble it at all the bread wasn’t sourdough it was more like a cheap sliced white Vienna loaf cut into halves the oil was pretty much like your standard cooking olive oil no one touched the Dukka because it looked like Birdseed rather than what should have been a flavourful smelling Dukka . Entree Calamari was soggy , entree croquettes were well done and pungent flavour. Chicken Parma’s were huge but ldry , steak order was incorrect medium to well done porterhouse steak was rare and if it’s pricey then you want the order to be correct . The pizza crust was actually burnt to the point of flaking off like a cinder. Fried chicken was fried to the point of being fossilised. The salmon was good luckily two of us order that . And the kicker was that the food was not inexpensive the steak was $37 the Parma’s were $27 the calamari was $28. This is a stock standard pub food menu which is overpriced and underwhelming. Won’t see us back here anytime soon unless it’s as a gratis gesture on behalf of the owner to show us how things usually run differently 😒 and to tell us it was just an off day today . Probably poured $300-$400 down the drain today would have been better of eating at home .More

Our third visit since mid-January. The first just to check out the situation post Covid as we wanted somewhere to take interstate friends. A couple of previous favourites had been disappointing. Not so at the Grand! Returned for lunch with friends, all four of us...left very happy with our meals. Then a few days ago took friends to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary. Once again all our meals were well presented, tasty and a generous size. Three chosen from the specials board the other a beautifully cooked steak. Another enjoyable outing enhanced by the surprises provided by the management and staff. A memorable outing, especially for our friends. Well worth a visit.More
