Normally I would not provide a critique but as we will definitely be back so though it worth the effort.
The Steak and Pepper was the best I have has for a long time. The pastry top was light and crispy, there was real steak and fresh black pepper cooked to perfection (tender but not dry) in a rich gravy perfectly seasoned. My Wife had a Panjang Curry Pumpkin which she said was delicious. I also ordered a sausage roll which had a homemade filling that was not greasy, again well-seasoned with a full flavour and was the best I have had for a long time.
My pie base was nice and thin but a little undercooked which blind baking would improve.
All pies where 7 Dollars which is very reasonable as they are generous size and are enough a meal.
Coffee was good but not excellent with the shot a little short and the milk overstretched.
This the best bakery we have found in the greater Albury/Wodonga area and our overall experience was excellent and we are looking forward to our next visit.

So let the secret get out.... a pastry maestro is creating the pies and tarts for this terrific provincial Aussie business. Earlier in the week we sampled the Beef and Wine pies in Bright the day before, along with the superb Beef and Mushroom and were hooked. There is nothing quite as wonderful as munching on a delicious and fresh pie straight from the paper bag whilst sitting on the main street of a country town in the Autumn sunshine. So when we were finally able to make it to Yackandandah to the source (main bakery) to acquire more pies for the family waiting at home I was overly excited as my 17 year old son is a devotee of a good pie. When you buy the cold pies as a take away, they are nestled in uncooked pastry for a bake at home experience. We decided to stick with the beef and Wine, Beef and mushroom and added in Beef and Bacon and a few Lemon tarts as a chaser. All in all, we carried off 16 pies on the three hour drive back to Melbourne. (umm I did manage to scoff down a beef and mushroom pie in the car, but my man had a bad stomach issue after what in my opinion was a failed gourmet meal at a notable restaurant the night before in Beechworth and was ill for 2 days with severe pain ..... etc) but I was able to crow a little and tell him how delicious i was finding the offering. Once home, the following day, I glazed the fare with beaten egg and popped the pies in the oven, planning to serve them as dinner alongside a salad. Our senior house guests were in raptures about the flakey yet well supported pastry and the extraordinary flavours of the pies as well. The 17 year old son was heart broken when I told him his ration was only two Beef and Bacon pies and is apparently working out regional bus routes to forage for more Gum Tree pies under his own steam!! The Lemon Tart would stand up to scrutiny in any good dining room. A really traditional tart like a dab handed Nanna would make. Full bore Yummy in the best Aussie tradition with a modern and fresh taste (no odd bits of gristle or crap in these beauties).

The pies are the best I have ever had. They have a wide selection of flavours and you can even get take home ones to continue enjoying the experience. Staff are friendly even when the store is packed. You know the pies are good when it’s worth waiting in line.

Nice pies, bad and sad service for a nice quaint country town
Not a big ask to have access to hand sanitizer after paying with cash at the counter.
Being spoken at rather than spoken to not appreciated by a loyal frequent customer who has purchased masks and pies.
Will not be coming back.

Let us face it , it was a basic pie place that made good quality pies with a few differences. The pies were good and tasty, the flies outside on the tables at an angle loved them and I would go back if I wanted a good pie or sausage roll. The coffee was average and I should have avoided a pie and sausage roll at breakfast which is not natural and found a good fresh donut or pastry but someone said you have to try the pies. I would go back if I wanted a pie

Quaint Yackandandah township is lucky to have gum tree pies in the main street. Crispy pastry, excellent fillings, just right temp, terrific selection. Well done Cody and all at gum tree pies for an excellent experience.

We have been buying Gum Tree Pies at the Canberra Farmers Market for many years and always call into one of their shops when we’re in Victoria. They really are the BEST pies. My favourite is steak and curry, my husband has steak and bacon, or steak and red wine and we also like chicken and mushroom. We usually buy a box of six pies and freeze them for a quick and easy meal with mash and veggies. Every time I finish a Gum Tree Pie I want to ring them and say thanks. Delicious.

Delicious pies and great coffee!
Deep pan pies were absolutely full of soft juicy beef chunks.
We had beef and mushroom pies and mug of coffee each for around $25
Plenty of comfortable seating both indoor and out.

GumTree Pies are something we always look forward to when we go to Bright. The variety of flavours are endless and every pie is generously packed with high quality favour and ingredients. Everything is reasonably priced. The option to take home some cold pies is a definite plus. We can’t wait to come back!

We stopped on our drive through from Bright to Wodonga. A friend had recommended the Bright shop, but we weren't hungry whilst there. Decided to try the one in Yackandandah and it did not disappoint. Firstly the staff were lovely. Secondly the pies are delicious! I had wanted a chicken and mushroom pie, but they had sold out so I decided on the lamb and mint jelly pie. Big chunks of lamb which just fell apart in a lovely gravy with just enough of a mint flavour. Hubby had a steak and mushroom pie which was also delicious - large chunks of beef which also just fell apart. The pastry was light and flakey. Unfortunately we were at the start of our holiday and couldn't buy any takeaway pies. Cannot wait to get back on our next trip!

How is it there are so many great bakeries and pie shops in regional Australia? Here is another one that serves a better pie than the bigger opposition over the road. Great friendly and efficient staff, sufficient staff and a positive attitude. A must try when in Yack.

A busy little bakery in the centre of Yakandandah.
There were a great selection of flavours to satisfy every taste. The pies we chose had crisp, flakey pastry, full of chunky beef and full of flavour. What more can one ask for.

Our second visit to Gum Tree Pies confirmed that our first experience wasn't a fluke. The pastry is simply the best we've ever encountered in a pie. Unfortunately we arrived well after the lunch rush, and my first choice of Thai green chicken pie was sold out, so my next choice was cauliflower and cheese; with several actual chunks of cauliflower! Hubby had the steak and bacon, and he simply said "a proper meat pie" It looked delicious with real pieces of plentiful beef. Well done Gum Tree Pies! 👍

Well it was really the number of customers that drew us in. Husband chose a steak and pepper pie, I had a panaan pumpkin curry pie. We both slowly ate , the most DELICIOUS pies we have eaten, we are in our late 60's travel and partake or bakery pies. CONGRATS to the bakers

Going on recommendation, we tried 2 types of these sensational pies - steak and mushroom; lamb and mint. Both are perfect - pastry, flavour, and filling. It's better than another well-known bakery in the area. Perfection! Cheesecakes were also fantastic. I'm a fan forever.
