About
Welcome to The Victoria Hotel, Woodend! We offer a friendly and generous service at The Victoria where we value your visit as much as we value sourcing and preparing quality food and drinks. We love local! The Victoria’s menus reflect our regional bias, and deliver delicious meals whatever your particular tastes or dietary requirements. The bistro menu features a staple of great steaks, parmas, schnitzel, burgers and a barramundi fish and chips. It’s monthly produce-driven specials, a list of eight to 10 house-made desserts, as well as a nutritious $10 menu for under-12s. Every day, we offer at least six vegetarian options and vegan dishes. Our wine lists boasting over 70% regional wines from our cool climate vineyards within the Macedon Ranges and surrounds. Keep cosy by the double-sided open fires in the winter and enjoy the shaded dog friendly courtyard in the warmer months.

We visited the Vic on three separate occasions during our six weeks in Woodend, firstly as a family of four adults and two children, secondly as a couple and thirdly with another couple. On each occasion we were served by friendly staff, the portions were personally too big and too much to eat. I would have preferred a smaller portion of food with a lower price. We do not like leaving food on our plate and Aussies all seem to have enormous appetites. The schnitzels and parmas were brilliant, as were the pizzas.

A lovely atmosphere as you first walk in with the rustic wooden decor. Food was ok and didn’t have to wait too long. However it was evident they were short staffed as waiters were rushed and not friendly or providing assistance when asked. We were near the fire and in the course of 1.5 hours we had to stoke the fire ourselves even though we asked numerous times. Each time rudely getting told by passing staff that they were “busy delivering meals and serving other tables”.
Staff at bar were efficient and friendly.

We had a delicious Christmas lunch here. My mum is not a big eater, but Rachael and the Chef looked after her, ensuring she was able to enjoy a Christmas lunch and not a kids meal.
There were 4 courses and these were served with a nice break in between. Serves were huge, food was tasty and hot. The black forest pavlova was amazing!!
Staff were friendly
Excellent job by all staff.

Went the The Vic for the first time in months and pleased to see they've managed to keep the high standard up after the COVID lockdown. This place adapted and was serving take away meals from the bottle shop and has kept that going now they've reopened the dine in part again. My wife had the chicken schnitzel which she said was beautifully fresh and hot though was actually a bit burnt right on the edges. I had the Scotch fillet and maybe it was due to the lockdown and not being able to get out for a meal for so long but it was one of the best pieces of steak I've had for a very long time. I was amazed how quickly it came out as well. I like mine medium and that's exactly how it was, and beautifully tender as well. Sticky date pudding and a piece of Apple pie for dessert, both freshly made though the strawberry on top of both was a little sour and should have been let on the plant for a few more days.
Still an excellent feed with great service and atmosphere.

The food here is satisfying and filling. I enjoyed the braised beef dish, but did find the carrots and sprouts to be rather undercooked. My wife ate the barramundi with prawns and said it was delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive and the hotel offered and promoted Senior's Discount on meals. The table near the entrance is rather cold and draughty!

Staff and service were great no complaints on that front. The $34 Slow Cooked smoked lamb rump was terrible. Nothing slow cooked about it. A medium rare, sinewy, chewy sliced piece of lamb something. Only bits of it were edible. The wifes roast of the day, was marginally better, though a little unusual with chargrilled slices of beef?

We were lucky enough to have a night out for dinner while my parents took our girls away on a holiday. The food was excellent, our steaks were cooked to perfection! The garlic and cheese pizza was delicious and the Chocolate hazelnut brownie was decadent. The staff were extremely attentive and our waitresses Wendy and Claire were friendly, bubbly and happy to check to see we were enjoying our night. The pub is family friendly and even caters for your family puppy! Highly recommended and we will be back again! Thanks got a lovely night! 10/10 from us, cheers!

We were looking for something to eat on arrival on a Thursday night and decided to get pizza from the Victoria Hotel. After working out exactly how to order as you need to go through the drive through, we waited for a freshly cooked pizza to be prepared and were pleasantly surprised at the freshness and taste from what we through would be a pre-prepared pizza. Tasteful and doesn't leave you feeling heavy or covered in oil. Highly recommend.

My booking was not on the computer but there was a table available. My disappointment with the food matches my annoyance that they had no idea of my booking. None of the food was worthy of eating, cauliflower fritters were all batter and minute amounts of cauliflower, Nonna's meatballs were hard and rubbery and the fish and chips were vile. Fish straight out of the freezer. Very disappointing

Hi Merlin, I think you have reviewed the incorrect business as we don't have Cauliflowers fritters or Nonnas Metballs on the menu. Come and visit the Victoria Hotel in Woodend next time! thank you

We had a lovely gluten free meal at the Victoria Hotel in early December for our anniversary, and were not sick afterwards. The chicken schnitzel with chips and salad was delicious and there were several dessert options to choose from - we went for a berry cheesecake, with extra berries and icecream on the side. The main meal was very generous and great value. It was our anniversary and the lovely staff member serving us kindly took several good photos for us when our selfies were lousy. Enjoyed the meal and our visit, thank you to the staff for taking great care in noting our dietary needs and ensuring it was safe for us.

We were greeted by a lovely lady who made us feel so welcome. A delight having been ushered out of the neighbouring Holgate Brewery by a very unfriendly waitress who seemed to enjoy telling us there was no seating available. The atmosphere was warm, cosy and inviting. I ordered a fish burger which was absolutely delicious. We were a party of eight including children, we all enjoyed our meals. I am looking forward to visiting the area again and I will definitely be going back to this fabulous pub for another burger!

Attended a lunch with large group, I arrived a little late so ordered meal separately. The young woman serving at the bar was completely disinterested in serving me. At no point did she ask if l wanted a drink with my meal.I needed to order this after paying for my meal. Meal was less than average - parmi and chips. A few of the group stayed on after the lunch for a drink and chat and made our way to the couch/chairs. Sunlight coming through windows/skylights made it very evident that cleaning was not a priority, cobwebs could been seen in light fixtures. Who only knows what else could be found if we had a really good look around.

Service and ambience nice. Booking experience not so great… stuffed in a corner and realised non booked customers given better tables. Entrees not worth a look. We ended up having easy to cook meals $44 steal measles and barramundi meal. Was ok… not exciting food. Loved the feel of the decor etc. have been gpin* for 20 years… not really motivated to return.

Em, Nicole and the whole crew were amazing. Even during a busy time, they made sure we enjoyed laughs, great food, great drinks and a good old country pub atmosphere. The place has such great character, Em has done an amazing job with the renovations and as much fun as being there with no kids was, we can’t wait to take the family back to see them all ASAP.

It is a lovely hotel, with rustic architectural features and an open fire in the dining room. The table service is attentive and helpful. We were brought meanus and water without having to ask and the wine list was on the table already. We looked over the listings and decided to try from the extensive range of beers and dine on the Pie of the Day, which was beef and red wine today. It was rich, full of tender meaty pieces, and sat on a base of mashed potatoes and peas. A small jug of gravy was on the side and other condiments on the table. Prices were very reasonable.
