Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Wicked Virgin offers gourmet lunches, accompanied by estate-grown wines. The wine is full of flavour; it is dry land grown and hand picked, which makes wine with intense flavour. The winery is a family venture, it was established by John and Laurel Nowacki in...1999. The restaurant is popular; it's less than 2km from the centre of Rutherglen, the centre of this premier wine producing region.More

Interesting place. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon. I had read some reviews on the place already. Comments about the customer service I can definitely understand. I had an older gentleman serve me and he was nice enough. Not sure if they are understaffed, but...he just didn’t have the time to spend with anyone. With people coming up to pay and tastings to do, it’s really not an amazing experience. However, the grounds are pleasant and my daughter and I shared a mezzo plate which was good, but not amazing. They could definitely tidy up the cellar door and work to sell their products better.More

My husband and I spent a weekend in Rutherglen in late March just gone and called into the Wicked Virgin to sample and buy their olive oil. When we arrived the place was very quiet except for a table of perhaps 12-14 people, and another...couple. We spoke with the older couple who I assume own the Wicked Virgin about their oil and were very interested however we were not offered a tasting, and more concerning we were made to feel we were not welcome. The couple were very unhappy and it showed. We decided to order coffee to see if they warmed up a little before we left but no, there attitude and customer service did not change. We did buy their oil (untasted) and left. It was very disappointing and perplexing as the rest of the sites we visited in and around Rutherglen that weekend were faultless, great service, very friendly and welcoming. I don’t enjoy writing a bad review but I think this couple need the feedback to improve their customer service.More

What an enchanting place. We were greeted by the owners who were very attentive. We tasted some nice wine and olives. So nice in fact that we departed with half a dozen bottles and four bottles of Tapenade (the Tapenade is absolutely heavenly). We would...have tried the cheese cake from their kitchen which looked very yummy but we only had breakfast at 11 am and weren’t really hungry.More

We enjoyed wine tasting at the cellar yesterday and returned today to sample the lunch menu at the cafe, It did not disappoint! the food was served appealingly and tasted fresh and delicious. My husband had the lamb shank and I had the mezze plate,...we would highly recommend both. They went well with a bubbly shiraz whilst sitting in the peace and tranquility of the beautiful weeping tree in the garden. We did not want to leave. The small family run business provided exceptional service and the food was amazing. We highly recommend this winery.More

Beautiful pea & ham soup & Morocan kumura soup, anti pasto platter. Crusty rolls would have been preferable to the soft white rolls but tat is a personal preference Very good standard & range of wines.

Thank you for your review. It's always good to hear positive comments. Yes we think those soups are great too. Those little rolls are normally crusty... you must have caught us on a "soft" day!!

Called in at 2.30 to check out their fare as we are partial to a good olive oil. We had already had lunch but thought we would support a small retailer by having a meza plate with a couple of wines. My husband was reprimanded...by the female owner for getting a meal to share. Didn’t bother looking at their goods for sale. Just wanted to leave. The husband and wait staff were lovely.More

Thank you for this comment... it helps to drive better service. I am sure "reprimand" is a little strong. We do advise people that a Mezze plate is designed as a meal for one... so that they are not disappointed with quantity. Most people understand...More

This was a really delightful place to visit and taste great local produce from the Rutherglen region. A most welcoming space where you can taste the olive oil and olives with bread and the tapenade with toast. And lovely local wines. Highly recommended. Say hello...to the chatty cocky on your way in.More

My friends and I booked for lunch at the Wicked Virgin Olive Grove and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Laural our host was attentive and professional, looking after our every need. The Calico Town wines are a good range and suggestions for what to drink with our...meals were taken on board and enjoyed. The atmosphere is laid back and peaceful, with one visitor reclining with a good book on the lounge by the sunny window. Visitors to the cafe stopped for friendly banter and the world was a better place. Thoroughly recommend.More

Stopped In for a lunch with friends. Found the venue to be quite quant. Tastings are available on request only. Good range of wines and each is named based on local history of the area. Lunch is great. Portions are sizeable and for the price...is great value. The Mezze platter and slow cooked lamb were fantastic. Service is acceptable but could be more attentive. Still highly recommend a visit!More
