Travel 60 klms to go to this beaut old but modernised country pub. One of few hotels to open on Christmas Day 2021 for lunch. My 2 'elderly discerning diners' and I had a high quality lunch beating the lunch we had in one of...Bendigo's biggest hospitality venues in 2020. Other friends, both male and female have dined there during 2021 and never been disappointed. The bar area has many Australiana items on display. One dining room has a large collection of Australian militaria items and photographs. What the licencees put on gratis after the 2021 Remembrance Day Service was very impressive. (They also did for Anzac Day) Large beer garden area. Close to the fantastic Colbinabbin Silo Art. You can confidently go out of your way to visit both locations.More

Beautiful old building has been renovated and looks fantastic. Service was great very friendly locals and staff was made to feel at home. Food was excellent we ordered Steak, Spring rolls (yummy), Parma, Gnocchi and Spag Bol all the meals were very good portion, tasty...and would eat here again. Our kids are very fussy eaters and they cleaned their plates. Would recommend!!!More

We had a great experience at the Criterion hotel. Its a gorgeous historic building, staff are very hospitable, the locals are very friendly and chatty, and the food is fantastic. We ordered Spaghetti Bolognese, gnocchi, chicken Parmigiana, prawn linguini, calamari and a pizza. All were...absolutely delicious. The gnocchi is house made on the premises and is to die for. We sent empty plates back to the kitchen. Thank you for a very enjoyable experience, it was not something we expected to find tucked away in a tiny regional township.More

Recently moved to the area and thought we would try out some local pubs. It’s safe to say we won’t be eating here again! Ordered up big with entree, mains and kids meals, all were average - my daughters spaghetti tasted not right so told...my daughter not to eat it, and shared ours. When paying the bill I explained it was inedible, (as not once did they come to clear plates or ask how our meals were etc) instead of acknowledging that my daughter went hungry the staff went to collect the un eaten plate of spaghetti and discussed with the chef only to tell us there was nothing wrong with it! A simple sorry would have been nice!!! Instead I paid the $12 for a meal we couldn’t eat, and I would never go back here nor will I recommend to anyone! Definitely avoid eating here!More

Only pub in town offering lunch on the day we passed through. As a coeliac, also not very gluten free friendly. Had to opt for a steak sandwich without the bread and without the chips: was OK and made do for lunch. Wife ordered chicken...Parma from senior's menu: it was still too much.More

The Criterion is a very nice place to spend an hour or two. We had a few drinks in the front bar and had a great time chatting with some of the locals. Best way to get information about an area, especially one steeped in...history. We also had dinner in the dining room, which is separate from the bar. The dining room is a beautifully restored part of the building and is split into two sections ... one carpeted and the other old Baltic floorboards, both have soaring ceilings, original sash windows and open fires The tables are nicely set over white table cloths. The wine and food choices are a simple fare, but very good quality and well prepared. Absolutely delicious and overall, would suit a wide range of tastes. We were having a wonderful time until the arrival of an inconsiderate couple and their horrible child, who insisted on playing games at full volume on an iPhone, was continuously yelling at its parents for attention, and running back and forth between dining rooms. This totally ruined an otherwise perfect evening. There was something similar occurring in the other section of the dining room also, except that child was running wild and crawling on floors, so we couldn’t asked to be moved. The custodians of both children were intent on ignoring the bad behavior, so both remained unchecked. If I could make a suggestion to the owners ? Please contain people with children to *one* half of the dining room, preferably the carpeted side to soften the noise, and leave the other to those wishing a peaceful meal without children crawling under tables, and playing kiddy games on devices at high volume. The hotel deserves 5 stars, the people allowing their children to run riot in a dining room that’s very obviously not a substitute for McDonalds deserve 0.More

My friends and I got together at The Criterion Hotel for dinner and drinks and we absolutely loved it! The staff are so lovely, with owner Danny going above and beyond to make sure everyone had an amazing time. The drinks are cold & reasonably...priced, the food is delicious & the fires kept us toasty warm on what was a very cold winter night! We highly recommend the Criterion Hotel Rushworth and will most definitely be back. Well done to Danny and his wonderful staff for running such an awesome country pub!More

Our meals were forgotten. After asking 40 minutes later our meals were rushed out with half cooked chips. Very average meals indeed. Charming old pub friendly bar maid and cold beer.
