We thought we’d support local businesses after the fires, on our return to Sydney from Melbourne by driving around the coast. For some reason Orbost fitted in with our plan so we found the Club Hotel appeared to have 4 star ratings so booked in...there.
We checked in at the bar, where the guy behind the counter didn’t know how to check us in. So we had to wait for the ‘boss’ to turn up. He escorted us to our room past the ‘lounge’ which was a basic room with a few chairs and a tiny TV on the refrigerator in the corner. Our morning alarm was a VERY loud rooster crowing from 6am until at least 10am.
Oh dear, whilst the room was cheap, it was so basic. A wardrobe with doors held together with a plastic chain, very creaky floors, no bedside lights ( a single overhead only), a 60s style dresser doubling as bedside tables. Shared bathroom with one loo, one shower and two basins for the entire accommodation block. And the ladies was miles from our room with narrow worn carpeted stairs down to another level. Not good at 3am. The window could be opened but no aircon or heating.
The meal in the bistro was nice and country sized. We would NOT recommend this place unless you are desperate for shelter!More
