Nice food

Went for lunch during a weekend away. Ended up being seated in the bar area, which was fine, although got fairly busy when everyone was walking past to line up and get drinks. It may have been because we were in the bar area, but service was extremely slow. Took ages for someone to take orders, no one checked on how our meals were (so ordering other things couldn't happen). When we saw staff they were very friendly, and the food was really nice, but being able to talk to staff and order more drinks or dessert from our table would have been preferred.

A good night out

We were staying in nearby Monbulk and this venue was recommended to us. We had booked a table and, on arrival, were shown straight to the table. Water was produced almost immediately and our drinks order taken very soon after we were seated. The food was of a very high standard. It was obviously freshly prepared and served within a fairly short time. Given how busy the place was, I was surprised at the speed of service. The young lady looking after us was an excellent ambassador for The Pig and Whistle. She was very friendly and super-efficient. The prices on the menu were also very reasonable for the quality of the food. A most enjoyable night out. A big "Thank You" to the team from the Pig and Whistle who were on duty on the evening of ANZAC Day.

Great Pub Atmosphere

My husband went to the Pig and Whistle Tavern two nights in a row as we were so impressed and it was so close to where we were staying in Olinda, within walking distance. The service was excellent and the staff made us feel warm and welcome. You can go there at 4:30pm and order a meal which is great if you have kids and want to feed them early. A good selection of beers on tap and I can highly recommend the White Rabbit Chocolate Stout yummy. The food is fantastic with a range of different meal options to choose from. We had the Irish Chicken Parma with a curry sauce and battered fish and chips on our first night there and they were delicious. On the second night we had 300g Scotch Fillet on a bed of potato, bacon and spinach with a sweet garlic jus. This was to die for the steak was cooked to perfection and just the right size without feeling too full. This meal is a credit to the chef. My only issue was there is no freshly cracked pepper on the table but this can be supplied by the staff if requested.

Little bit of Britain

Stopped in here for some dinner, easy to book and were very accomodating. Food was good solid filling fare. Bangers and mash with spinach with 3 pork bangers almost too much. Neighbouring Parmas were enormous! We liked the decor and the staff were attentive and friendly. Recommend.

Great pub

If they had staff shortages due to covid you wouldn't know, we were well looked after, the meals including salads were large serves, we asked for a bowl of chips for the table expecting a small bowl and this also was huge. Staff were clearly run off their feet but they still were really lovely and efficient. The place has a nice buzz to it, will definitely will b back.

Really great meals

Love this place. Great meals , huge portions and very reasonable prices. Some meals are easily shared between two people by just adding an extra salad . Warm inside , open fire in winter. Table service including bar items. I would recommend to book first.

My wife and I had dinner here recently during our holiday in Mount Dandenong, where we stayed two nights in a holiday cottage in Olinda. My wife had fish and chips with salad while I had scotch fillet steak with vegetables. We also had beers with our meal. The food was good. The decor of this tavern is nice. Prices are a bit high but inflation is happening everywhere.

Great Britsh style pub, servings extremely large

We loved the pictures and decorations around the pub that gave it a great ambience. The bartender certainly knew his stuff. Both the parma and the Guiness pot pie were great. All the helpings were very large; if you're not big eaters, consider sharing a meal between two.

Table was dirty, place felt neglected. Menus were dirty print outs. Staff looked busy but it wasn't. Food took for ever and we had to ask twice for cutlery after our food arrived....Never mind...

Wish I could give it more than 5

We ate here because of its no 1 rating on trip advisor and it surpassed our expectations the meals were delicious and huge. I’m vegetarian and the options were great my husband loved his Irish Parmigiana. We also both had dessert again generous serves. The service was exemplary when we asked about a beer they gave us a taste. This was more than a meal it was a great experience 5+++

Great character and great food

We enjoyed our dinner at the Pig and Whistle, a restaurant full of character that reminded us of many English pubs. We knew when we struggled to book a day before it was a popular spot for dinner! The Irish parmigiana was excellent, as was the Guinness pie.

A good pub, but nothing special

The location has a quaint vibe to it, imitating English pubs in its decor. The dining room was filled with smoke from the wood fire when we arrived, but the staff eventually got this under control. The wait-staff were friendly and efficient, and we did not wait too long for our drinks or meals to arrive. The menu is only standard pub faire, nothing out of the ordinary. The quality was quite good, however, serving good examples of these meals. The serving-sizes were about right, as were the prices.

What a fabulous English style pub with great food!

Heard about but never been…were not disappointed! A family run old style pub definitely living in the now.. friendly and accommodating staff, generous and beautiful quality meals, our table of 7 people all totally loved our choices. A couple of desserts to share amongst us all was plenty, home style cooking, just wonderful, fair prices and great beer and wine choices. Would absolutely recommend and will definitely return.

English Style Pub in Olinda

Had an amazing Sunday evening in this delight english pub in Olinda. Dined with elderly parents and the staff accommodated us at the table beside the open fire which was just tremendously thoughtful. Staff were amazing, meals were very homely, warm atmosphere! Well worth a visit for a meal or one of the on tap beers.

GREAT FOOD

Had dinner 6th March, 2021. Can say with all honesty that the steak was cooked to perfection. Perfectly seasoned and melted in your mouth. My partner had the chicken parma which was equally as good. Meal sizes were more than generous. Would recommend to anyone and everyone who likes a great meal in a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
