After months of strict lockdown, it was a great relief to be able to visit regional Victoria and in particular the Surf Coast. We were staying close to town in Ocean Grove and decided on Driftwood Cafe as the menu sounded interesting. My travelling companion had the pulled pork hash brekky with fried eggs & toasted turkish bread and I had the poached eggs with grilled asparagus, hollondaise sauce, rosemary, parmesan & potato toast. Both meals were tasty, generous and well cooked. Coffee was great (good barista). Service was cheerful and friendly. So great to get away and enjoy good local produce well prepared with attention to detail and respect for the ingredients. Would not hesitate to go back again....and again ....

Popped in on a Monday morning when things were quiet. The weekend that are lined up out the front. We had great meals. My wife had the Eggs benedict and it came with 3 very well cooked eggs and a ton of good quality ham. It was excellent. I tried a pulled pork meal with potatoes, vegetables , 2 fried eggs and wonderful Turkish bread, Again no complaints at all. The coffee was hot, the staff were very polite with a smile on their faces. if you are in the area give it a try

The Healy family has been privileged to have connection with Driftwood Cafe pre and during Covid. Driftwood catered for our eldest son's 21st at home prior to Covid. The team was highly organised providing not only amazing food but also brilliant catering staff. Amid Covid lockdowns my second son was fortunate to have a gathering of friends on site at the cafe spilling out onto the outside tables on a brilliant summer's evening. Same story- brilliant service-amazing food and a team that bent over backwards for us. And last week I was able to have a small gathering at home for my birthday. The team even delivered courses at different times to very appreciative family members. A huge thank you to Ty and Rachael for making our family events so memorable

After reading so many positive reviews we decided this was the place to go for breakfast. Unfortunately was not impressed with coffee. Both my husband and I had skinny lattes. His looked lovely and tasted ok. Mine didn't unfortunately when I mentioned this to waitress that didn't taste the same and maybe it was the milk was told it "came from the same jug I watched him pour it". I just put up with it only to then be disappointed with my eggs Benedict. I was looking forward to it as so many had raved about it. The eggs were nice and fresh ham was tasty but ham was really cold...like from the fridge cold. This detracted from whole meal. I didn't bother to say anything to waitress. After my coffee experience I thought what is the point. Just a word of advice to the owners, if customer comments on bad coffee it is probably bad. Train you staff to listen to the customer. Overall I wasn't impressed and not sure I would go back ad the other meals were also average.

I thought long and hard before writing this review for this much loved local eatery. We visited with friends immediately after regional Victoria took its first steps out of lockdown 4.0. We were eager to get out and support a local business. Food was mediocre at best with most meals being underwhelming. When we arrived it stated at the bottom of the menu that there was a COVID surcharge, so we were well aware of this extra charge. It did not sit well with our group. While I fully understand restaurants have done it hard recently, I’m not sure this is an ideal way to treat loyal local customers. Not sure I will be back as this has left a sour taste.

Dear firySteveH, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your meals. Quality food and service is something that we pride ourselves on! I would love to discuss these issues with you further so that we can make changes where needed. You can contact me at the Cafe on 03 5255 1832. However in regards to the surcharge you misunderstood it. Here is the blurb at the bottom of the menu.... "Under current Covid-19 restrictions we ask that you please - Scan the QR code and enter your details Stay in your seat and only moving around if you have to. Sanitise your hands upon entry and exit. Observe social distancing rules whenever possible. Eat a meal - Enjoying a meal with us ensures we can pay our staff. 20% surcharge applies to all Public Holidays" We ask that people enjoy a meal with us BUT the surcharge refers to PUBLIC HOLIDAYS, not everyday and certainly NOT a COVID-19 surcharge. I hope that you can relay this information to your other guests as I would hate for them to think that we were charging a surcharge for no reason. Public holiday surcharges are applied as we have to pay our staff double time on these days. Again if you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to call me at the cafe. Kind Regards Rachael

As frequent holiday visitors to the area we have often visited Driftwood to support local community during our stays. Our visit to them over Xmas/new year resulted in orders being wrong, weak coffee & and underwhelming experience despite the price we were footing. We decided to give them another go as the previous occasion they were extremely busy & thought this was what caused our disappointing experience. Unfortunately we had another horrible experience with cold weak coffees, eggs not cooked to our order (not sure how you can stuff up scrambled & fried eggs) and toast that was cold, overcooked & dry to the absence of butter. After speaking to a staff who was not concerned we opted to give most to our dog and paid & left. We won’t be returning & we look to find another local cafe to support, or eat in!

Dear te801, I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your experience with us the other day. I would like to talk to you more about it. It seems like there was a series of mistakes and I would like to get to the bottom of what happened so that we can rectify the issues. We are - as is all of the hospitality sector - extremely short staffed and are trying our best to just stay afloat, keep the doors open and people employed. So please call me on 5255 1832 so we can chat. Regards Rachael

Average (over priced) food and lousy ‘trendy’ beer. When this place is surrounded by cafes and restaurants that provide value for money, it is a wonder anyone bothers to go there. Give it a miss!

Dear Bj101, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your time with us. Our food is fresh, free-range and amazing! You get 3 eggs instead of 2 with most of our dishes. They are a good size and freshly prepared by our amazing Chef's. Our beer range are all local beers from this area, Blackman's Prickly Moses & Little Creatures just to name a few so I am sure that they would be squite upset to hear that you called them lousy "trendy" beer. We also have Cartlon Draught for those that prefer it! Have a great day! Rachael

We have visited the Driftwood multiple times over the years as it’s local and we’ve never had a bad meal, in fact often in my job dealing with the public and visitors to the area I recommend the Driftwood to them for a great place to eat. But my view and view of my wife as well after our visit this weekend have changed. We went for lunch on Saturday with a voucher for a meal we received off family for Xmas as they know how much we like it there. But we were very disappointed meal the service was a little chaotic as I think they have some new staff, but they were very obliging and friendly. Where it fell apart was with the food, we both ordered the B.L.A.T which is bacon, lettuce, Avocado , Tomato on toasted sourdough bread with chips, pretty simple you’d think?. But not the chips were really shoe string fries which came with a portion smaller than a McDonald’s small fries. The toasted sourdough was dry and tasteless like cardboard as if it had been made ages ago and was left out to just be plonked on a plate later. The bacon was tough and dry and was probably done the same as the sourdough just cooked in a big batch and served up later. The Avocado and tomato which were the only part of the meal not cooked was perfect, it was the rest of the meal that let it all down. I don’t know where the owner was as we couldn’t see him but all I can say is if this is the standard set for the future then us being locals will be eating else where. I hope this was just a one off but we won’t be rushing back soon, what a shame.

Hey Jimbojames62, We appreciate your feedback as we always strive to get better in what we do, and I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your time with us. Staffing has been an issue with Hospitality over the past few years, since COVID as no one wants to work in this industry anymore. Especially Chef's, there are no qualified Chef's that want to work in hospitality. So we have a very green, inexperienced team, that are trying their absolute hardest. However, there is definitely room for improvement. I will pass on your feedback in relation to the meal. Were you able to speak to someone at the time? We may have been able to fix the issue by replacing the meal with a fresh one or done something to help your experience become more favourable. Unfortunately there is nothing that we can do about the chips. I am sure that you have heard about the Great Potato shortage on the news. Big name venues like McDonald's are getting first preference of chips and we are literally getting whatever is left over. For this reason we have taken bowls of chips as a side dish off the menu. There is nothing that we can do about this until the supply chain change. Again, I am sorry you did not enjoy your time, if you wish to speak to me further, I am available at the cafe on 5255 1832. Kind Regards Ty

We visited Sat 07 March at 09:30 with a friend for breakfast. Best choice ever... great Eggs Benedict with a generous amount of thinly sliced leg ham, and Eggs Florentine with a lot of spinach. Both came with 3 eggs, not the usual 2. Fantastic value for money and delicious Hollandaise sauce. Great coffee, friendly and fast service, too. We sat in the Atrium which was much quieter than anywhere else. Wish this was in Mona Vale NSW.

My husband and I visited for lunch, had calamari salad and chicken wrap! We have just returned home after several months holiday and have eaten out mostly! The food was fairly average, quite bland actually, couldn’t taste any salt or pepper, the calamari batter very thick and not tasty, (I had calamari probably about 15 -20 times on my holiday and this was one of the least interesting). Chicken wrap seemed ok but again probably not as good as a BP servo one as there was no taste. Disappointing, just wanted a tasty lunch!

We have been quite a few times to this cafe and it is one of the best brekky / lunch options in town. The swiss cheese /mushroom omelette is the best. They have a really good variety of food and drink that most people will be able to find something suitable. Plenty of room inside and out, make sure you go there

Very unfortunate customer service. We have tried the cafe twice with the same experience each time, shockingly slow and disinterested staff and average food. With other options in OG, there’s not any reason to hit this spot anymore (at least not for us).

I am sorry that you you did not enjoy your time with us. At that stage we were seriously under staffed, and the staff we had were tired and exhausted. We have since been able to hire more people to freshen up our team, and we are undergoing a range of new training to get everyone energised and flowing again. If you did visit us again, I believe you would have a much better experience, if you would like to call me to discuss this personally, you can call me on 5255 1832 Kind Regards Rachael

It’s great to have you back even though it’s limited numbers. The food is still the great taste as before and the menu is full of healthy choices. The Saturday night dinners we had the potato bravas as an entree with mains of pork belly and a curry with rice which were full of taste.

wanted a nice family outing before Victoria heads into another lockdown. Whilst there was some good service, no one returned to our table to obtain our order. I thought it was known that if people still have their menus they probably haven’t ordered. I understand that mistakes happen, it gets busy, but in the end we felt ignored whilst others were arriving and ordering. Been disappointed about this place before, so will not be returning.

Over the busy Xmas period when crowds were at their peak, Driftwood coped extremely well. Whilst food and coffee is as good, if not better, than other local eateries, the highlight of this establishment is the organisation. Staff are extremely well trained, thus ensuring the wait time for customers is minimal.
