The Rocks is emerging from Victoria’s lockdown just the way we hoped it would – quality seafood served by enthusiastic staff. When we returned for a birthday celebration a few weeks ago the pork and prawn gyozas – always a must entrée for us before the lockdown – had been taken off the menu. A change of chef, it was hinted. This week for our anniversary the gyozas were back and as succulent as ever in the ginger, soy and chili sauce. We also began with another favourite – tempura softshell crab poking out of a delicious black bun. Crayfish is on the menu – our gain, China’s loss. Ours would have weighed in around 1 kilo and the two halves were beautifully barbequed and served in a butter sauce, accompanied by a side dish of morish chips. Around $130 for the cray. We shared a bottle of Paringa Estate chardonnay – at $80 it’s a perfect match for great seafood. Sara is such an enthusiastic front of house and two serving staff – Abi and Hannah – enjoyed serving our meal as much as we enjoyed eating it. No wonder we have become regulars at The Rocks!

We recently celebrated my parent's 50th wedding anniversary with lunch at The Rocks in Mornington. It was such a lovely, special lunch - We all really enjoyed it and mum and dad loved it. Service was great and food amazing. Kristine was a pleasure to deal with and was happy to tailor the Feed Me menu to our needs/wants and personalise it with a beautiful message.

We recently chose The Rocks at Mornington Yacht Club as a venue for my Dad's 80th Birthday. Kirstine was awesome to deal with and made organising the function a stress free event. Luigi and his team ensured everyone had an excellent time by serving up amazing food delivered with great service. We had several people with food allergies in the room and Luigi went out of his way to ensure they were well fed with food suitable to their needs. This is often hard to achieve when you go with a Canape type menu, but they nailed it.

The service was good, the location is so lovely given there's actually not that many waterfront restaurants on the Mornington peninsula where you can sit so close to to water, compared to other beach side locations across Australia. However...four people, no alcohol, $179 and the fish and chips $33, was batter and chips. Come on, people spend their hard earned money going out for a special lunch. Would you be happy?

Do not go here it will not end well. Staff are terrible and just don’t care. Went there and personally booked a specific table which I was assured would be available for us at 7pm. When we got there there were no tables available. We were made to wait in the bar for a table to be one available. When a table did become available it was not the one we had booked. We were offered a stool in the corner of the room to eat our dinner. It was barely big enough for the two of us. To make matters worse not long after we sat down they added another random person at our dining area. Just one random person sitting at our table who didn’t order any food just drinks. Just sat there getting drunk next to us which made conversation really difficult. The management didn’t care they sat us in the corner and forgot about us. We couldn't even get a drink when we wanted one sitting there with empty glasses is not good. Oh but the random drunk person sitting next to us could get drinks. To make matters worse the table we had specifically booked when it did become available they cleared it and sat new people down all at the same time while we were waiting for service. It is all about table turnover at this place You won’t get service all night until at the end where they hover over you and make you leave do they can turn you table and get new people in. The manager argued with us at the start saying you can’t book specific tables. I said your staff said last night we could have a specific table. He came back later and said yes I have read the notes next to your booking and it did say a specific table. He did not move us just left us in the corner all night perched up on a stool and forgot about us.

This was one of the great disappointments of a dining experience for a while. Over priced food that was very ordinary. Limited yet very pricey wine menu. The oysters were tiny, yet $4.50 each. Prawns $24 for two burnt prawns. A spaghetti marinara with one prawn for $39? The aged slow cooked steak was $49 and came on it’s own so sides have to be ordered. The three of us who had the steak were ill following it. Wanted to enjoy this restaurant but a massive bill for very ordinary food and limited wine menu will NOT see us back in this lifetime! Paper menu, no table clothes and hard seats, yet priced like a 5 star restaurant.

Due to the lockdown restrictions we ordered a pick up meal (they also deliver). Our paella was packed with seafood and tasted great. The squid was good but the aioli was awesome. Friendly phone manner from the lady that took our order. If you call they will bring the meal out to your car which was nice. Can't wait to try this restaurant when we can come in for a sit down meal.

Dinner on Saturday evening on 11/01/2020 for my partners birthday was simply amazing. Our scenic drive from Melbourne was nice leading up to our reservation. From the beautiful view of Mornington to the fantastic food that we enjoyed and the service was 11/10. Friendly waiters/waitresses with a smile and great attitude, which made the experience even more so. If you want to eat well with quality fresh seafood and great service, my advice is forget the rest in Mornington, here is the best. Also, try the dessert, the profiteroles with chocolate sauce was heaven. We will definitely be back, and very soon.

I used to come to The Rocks every week, but due to a change of location, I hadn’t been for the last 3 years. I was so looking forward to eating lunch there again, but was really, really disappointed on every level. Our wait staff was attentive and efficient, but was loud, interrupted conversation at least four times (ie; was not sensitive that there was conversation, and just yelled over the top of us), persisted in asking us if everything was alright (on at least 6 occasions, and again, for no real reason, interrupting conversation). The menu was bland. The food not much above that of ‘pub food’, but with a hefty price tag. We were on the deck (which I used to love), but now it has been modernised (I’m not against modernisation, as long as it looks great), but they’ve gone for a cheap looking ‘beige’ fit out. It looks like any street cafe, not that special place that it used to be. Heartbreaking really, it used to be so great. Now, it’s really average.

The Rocks was amazing! The views were also beautiful. We ordered the fish of the day which was both salmon and crispy barramundi - both were the best cooked fish we’ve ever had! Flavourful and so moist, was amazinnnnggg!! Jodie was our server and she was super lovely, accommodating and brought our order so quick. Would definitely visit again!

The first time we went to The Rocks we noted the great attentive service and fantastic meals that in my opinion couldn't be beaten. A month later we went back with my mother and found nothing but disappointment even with the same linguine marinara as it was so good last time, with seriously under cooked dry tasteless pasta. My mother ordered the fish and ships, a seemingly classic that you generally can't get wrong, well guess what, the fish was tasteless, soft and unpalatable with the only taste coming from the batter that was a bit too oily. The service was also lacking in memory with, sorry I forgot to bring water to the table and sorry I forgot your drinks, really? We then paid an 18% surcharge for public holidays. One could suggest their just trying to survive after Covid but surly their not trying to recoup all their losses in on night. Now sure the staff will get paid overtime allowances but given the prices of the meals alone who's making the profit here, otherwise fine but don't expect a tip.

I arrived from the USA to have Christmas lunch (December 2019) with my family at The Rocks. I came from the bitter cold where we serve roast turkey for Christmas lunch. I was looking forward to some exceptional seafood. However, I did not find it at The Rocks. There was some sort of warm seafood medley (?) as an entree with a few prawns thrown in with some very tough octopus and scallops. The king prawn was inedible as it was warm and had no sauce. The main course was pressed turkey with factory prepared seasoning. The meal was a disappointment and very expensive at $150 plus drinks. I would like to say that our table was overlooking the bay which was a plus, and our young serving person was very good at her job. That was our second trip to The Rocks for Christmas dinner. It was definitely our last.

Extremely disappointing; totally understand the struggle for staff in hospitality but in the 90 mins we were there, other than placing the initial order for drinks and then food, nobody spoke to us (including when my ceviche entree was removed with fish still on the plate). The food wasn’t great (ceviche were uneven chunks that were chewy with a very bland dressing lacking a citrus element), steak was very fatty and at $49 for a minute steak and chips just disappointing. When you’ve high expectations little things then build up and feeling really uncared for has left us very flat and unlikely to return again.

Having been regular and loyal patrons of The Rocks for many, many years, we found the food and service diabolical at our last visit. There must have been a change of hands for such a deterioration in quality. For instance the Roasted Pumpkin and Cauliflower dish - I would have been embarrassed to “plonk” that down in front of anyone. The presentation was awful, the cauliflower was overboiled, not roasted. The service staff amateurish and inexperienced and in fact their own personal presentation was poor. So disappointing overall.

Four of us ate here this evening. Fabulous seafood menu, very good service, small plates interesting and tasty. Swordfish burger was very good. Profiteroles (with either vanilla or coffee ice cream and an outstanding chocolate sauce) were first class. Total bill circa AUS $300 including some drinks and good service.
