We started our day with a hearty breakfast at this trendy and hugely popular cafe, just managing to score a table as a walk-in. The menu was uncomplicated and the food was of excellent quality, promptly prepared and served to our table. Staff were well trained charming and attentive. High quality serviettes, and clean crockery and cutlery made for an overall satisfying experience. I found our portions to be generous and fulfilling. It was nice to be able to order a cold pressed fruit-veggie juice at the start of our meal as well as a great coffee to go. Oh, and the sourdough bread was scrumptious too!! Highly recommended spot for a meal in Mansfield.

I'm trying to clear the Melbourne trip posts as soon as possible to make way for other posts.
So we drove more than 4 hours drive from Geelong to Mount Buller where we spent the next 2 nights. We arrived at the vibrant town of Mansfield after 3 hours journey. Looking at the watch, we still have time for a cup of coffee.. lol! We stopped at Mansfield Coffee Merchant, by far the most popular cafe in this town.
The weather was sunny yet cold (it was June) so we decided to head inside instead. The big fire place provided the much needed warmth while enjoying our coffee. Since we were not that hungry, we just ordered a little bit to eat
â—ľtoasted sourdough with Nutella and butter
â—ľFried fish fingers with chips
â—ľ pastries
â—ľCold brew iced coffee
Energised once again, we started our last leg of the Mount Buller journey.

We stopped in for breakfast on the way to Melbourne. The menu is fantastic spicy baked eggs, bircher muesli and the croquettes ( which I had) all sensational. Big range of coffee . Fantastic service and reasonable prices for such quality.

Extremely disappointed and quite upset after making a booking for outside table. We all presented our covid proof of vaccination certificates to one employee only to be denied by “Michelle” that our daughter (just turned 16 the day before) who was FULLY VACCINATED nearly approximately one month prior was refused as the government issued paperwork was not satisfactory?? We were camping in the high country for the last 5 days and looking forward to a nice strong coffee and freshly cooked breakfast only to be told to get take aways and that we could sit elsewhere off the premises! I mean seriously!!? Getting told this crap about the owner getting get a $10,000 fine if she stayed mind you, with her issued certificate (however not set to her my gov/centrelink as we are awaiting centrelink to link her certification to the mygov app. Use common sense Mansfield coffee merchant! When presented with only facts and proving all are fully vaccinated to be seating OUTSIDE to have this happen was not only embarrassing but also leaving a terrible experience to end our trip away for the first time in a very long time. NO judge in their right mind would enforce any such fine when proof is presented! You need to show some compassion and maybe re assess the way your staff conduct their selves. Making light and in a jokingly disrespectful manner telling us to leave is just not on. Staff not even wearing their face masks correctly so it’s a double standard to following the chief health officers rules if you ask me.
Really disappointed and hope you lift your game for not only your local clients but also the visitors and holiday makers that look forward to enjoying the coffee and food you have on offer!

Honestly, dire! Talk about a place resting on it's laurels! This morning we ventured to the Coffee Merchant for our first breakfast on a rare joint day off since covid started (we are Mansfield locals). My partner and I both ordered the classic chilli scrambled eggs which we remember were great from 2 years back.
But wow this place has changed.
Food, poor, look at the picture, is this honestly considered toasted? We queried this and it took 10 minutes to get a replacement, by which time my partner had eaten her eggs / whatever left was cold.
Coffee, well we never had our coffee. We ordered it at the start of the meal and for the start and it arrived at the end! The waitress asked, if we wanted to start with a coffee so we expected it (like most normal people do) towards the start... So yep, we cancelled.
Service, rushed. There was no relaxation at all. It felt like we were rushed in, rushed out. I know hospitality is hard, I've been there, but for 40$ we were not treated very well. The staff tried to make things right but to no avail. We won't be going back.

I feel dissapointed that you felt this is the way to give constructive feeedback thru a public forum for what you have said is a rare occurrence and staff tried to make it better
Have you thought that after the last two years we are trying our best and today of all days when all restrictions where lifted we got it wrong. But you felt this was your best way to let us know of your bad experience.
Feel free to contact the store and ask for Mat the owner. I’d only be too happy to take some time to listen to your complaints and try and make it right.

For my early morning sit down coffee, cafe was quiet & the service was efficient, not friendly. As the day went along the cafe got busy & the service got slower. I started ordering on skip, giving more than 30 minutes notice & the take away order still wasn’t ready. It’s nice but after seeing the same people 3 times per day, 5 days a week, I still wasn’t a recognised regular. I had eat in lunch once & the waiter was friendly & attentive, food was good but quite expensive .

This place is huge, but yet feels friendly and cosy. The menu has good variety with several gf, vg etc options. Service was welcoming, attentive, and timely. We weren't rushed, but didn't have to wait unreasonably either.
Food was fine, though I do like my pumpkin (in pumpkin salad) to be softer and more caramelised, but that's just personal preference. Needing to be dairy-free, I chose the vgo option, which meant no yoghurt. The dish did suffer a little from the resultant loss of tang. My husband enjoyed his toastie very much. The drink choices are excellent. We would definitely come back.
Coffee was good - we bought some beans to take home.

First up I've got to say the service was excellent and the coffee is worth travelling for. But I remember cheery burgers and simple, well-priced food. A calamari salad I had once was especially good.
This time I had an overpriced, very oily, mostly flavourless (coffee beef?) toasted sandwich and my partner had a very green, overly wet risotto with, oddly, an entire crumbed, deep fried crab sitting on top of it. It was an unusual presentation for a risotto. The pizzas on the next table did, however
We'll drop in again for coffee, but we'll check the menu online before planning a meal here again.

A friend had recommended this place to us, and we weren't disappointed. The staff are super friendly, and made us feel very welcome. We liked it so much that we visited every day we were in Mansfield, including lunch, which was delicious. We didn't bother checking out any other cafe's as this one was great. Well done girls for your excellent service and friendliness.

Coffee is the best in town, but.....decided to order a takeaway meal for dinner as the dine-in brekky and lunch meals are great, we were disappointed. Had the risotto, the ravioli and the cheese balls, all were very bland and tasteless. This is surprising as they are world famous in Mansfield for doing awesome usually. We would not hurry back for an aeroplane food dinner.

Lovely place, good service and atmosphere, had the beef cheeks ragu with gnocchi, the gnocchi were lovely and soft and the beef cheeks just melted. My husband had capricciosa pizza which was cooked in a wood oven, it was a good size and was delicious. The meals were reasonably priced.

We had breakfast there with a group of 10 and these guys were fantastic. Great coffee, great food and great service (breakfast meals was served to all of us at exactly the same time not in drips and drabs like some). The staff couldn’t do enough for us, even though they were flat out. Well done guys.

This coffee house concentrates on the best coffee and fast service. A large menu for breakfast and lunch and the choice of inside or under the umbrellas outside the door completes the offerings. Staff are pleasant and helpful and the takeaway system is fast.

Taking advantage of suggestions from the "roadtrip for good" website, we ventured from Melbourne to Bright, stopping in Mansfield for morning tea. Mansfield Coffee Merchants is a busy cafe, we had to wait around half an hour for a table. Staff were friendly and when it was out time, they were prompt to seat us and take orders. Coffee and other drinks were excellent, while we didn't eat here the food menu looked quite elaborate with quite a few nice looking options. Next time I'm in town, I'll stop here again.

This place has changed, not many tables inside now and we can only get a table outside without any reservation during the school holidays on a late morning before lunch time. My kids had the sourdough with eggs and I ordered the beef ribs toasties, food was ok but service can definitely be improved. We didn’t order the ice coffee/mocha (which I remembered to be very good from 3 years ago) as we were sitting outside. Somehow I found this place has changed, as I was so looking forward to eat here in this trip.

I’m not sure if you know there is currently a staff shortage everywhere you look so yes service can be improved with more trained staff. If you know of any please ask them to apply
We have less seats than before but with 70 inside and another 45 outside I’m not sure what more we could really do. It’s a peak period with ski traffic busier than ever
I appreciate the business and review however there are reasons things have changed at the minute beyond our control
