I came for lunch and love the beautiful restored building (worth visiting just for the beauty of the building ). I was again disappointed by the quality of the meals (I visited a couple of years ago) but I do recommend coming for coffee or...bubbly and cake. Staff were very helpful and friendly, they have a good choice of cakes including gluten-free options. Lovely cafe, would recommend a visit.More

I'm a regular, lunching with different friends and family. The food is French, and good, so that some is hard to find elsewhere and I found I haven't tired after years of eating here. Coffee very good to excellent depending on barista but never bad!...Suits me!More

My wife and I usually go to Gracious Grace, but on this occasion as it was her Birthday we decided to go here for a change. The place is very nice and comfortable, we both ordered a large cappuccino, which sadly tasted like a warm...cup of milk with chocolate on top. 😝 We then ordered lunch, with my wife choosing the savoury crepe, which she said was very nice. I on the other hand ordered the burger, which sounded nice but ended up tasting very ordinary - I've had far better burgers at other cafes - and to top it off the French fries, which are supposed to be warm and crispy, were somewhere between lukewarm, cold and soggy. 🙄 We then ordered the Volcano cakes for takeaway and sadly when we came to eat them they were anything but fresh and had probably been sitting in the display for several days prior. 🤐 Sadly this place did not deliver on our expectations and I will be sticking to our usual haunts in future. A real disappointment. ☹️More

On a cold rainy day we decided to have lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Luckily we made a reservation as this gorgeous former chapel with its large fireplace was busy. My husband pronounced his pea and ham soup the best he'd ever had, followed by...the duck pie, of which he finished every morsel. My quiche lorraine and green salad were scrumptious and the side of French fries and aioli were to blame for us not indulging in the delicious French patisseries the restaurant is known for as we had had ample. A glass of local Yarra Valley bubbles, followed by hot cappuccino, and we were content. The cosy fire in the enormous fireplace made for a most convivial visit and we made new friends! Want to get Francofrivolous, look no further. We'll be back.More

Having had a pleasant meal at this establishment a few times, we invited a party of friends to join us on a pleasant Friday lunch. Oh dear, the vibes were not good from the start. The poor wait staff had no clue as to what...drinks were actually on the menu, my partner and his friends ordered a beer.....asking for it by name, as printed on the menu. “What”, she asked in shock and horror, “ you each want an bottle?”.....mistaking the small beer for a large bottle....in other words she didn’t know they were ordering beer she thought they were ordering wine!......and she thought that two bottles for a table of six was perhaps too much? Then we were told that the soup serves were quite large and did we really want to have an entree as well as main......well the serves were ok but NOT generous. So shamed into not eating too much, and not drinking.....great start! We ploughed on, when my friends received their quiche.....it was just a disaster. One lady could barely crack the pastry case....she was so worried that the small pie would skip off the plate if she pushed her knife too hard. It was borderline inedible, good thing she had shared an entree, because the main meal was very very disappointing. I had a tasty merguez sausage but the couscous was BLAND. As each of us finished our meal, the staff whisked away plates.....BEFORE all of the table had completed the course......come on, hospitality 101, again I suspect the staff have had minimal training. As the conversation got going we decided to have a coffee and desert..... because despite being shamed into only ordering two courses, we did have a lot of room for more. We ordered coffee and cakes......they were the highlight and if you only popped into this place for these menu items you would be impressed. Then we sat and talked a bit more, feeling relaxed......then a head popped over the coffee machine...” we close at 4” so we jumped up and rushed out as the door closed firmly behind us. Well, suffice to say, not going back there for a meal.More

Food was well presented and was very tasty. Pate plate for entree which was quite a large serving and cheese/ham/asparagus crepes for main course. The French pastries looked delicious so we bought some to take home for later. They were as delicious as they looked....On arrival we were advised there was a party group being catered for and that there may be a delay of up to 39 minutes for us. This delay did not concern us but we were pleased when our orders were taken within 5 minutes and served about 10 minutes later. The waiter was very helpful and efficient. Overall, a good experience and highly recommended.More

What a great discovery - a quaint little bit of France at the gateway to the Yarra Valley. For great French onion soup and a bubbling plate of snails in garlic butter, this is the place to visit. Set in a renovated old church, the...atmosphere is great, the meals are excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. Prices are very reasonable. Open for breakfast though to late afternoon, this is the ideal spot to start a visit to the magnificent Yarra Valley wine region.More

A bit disappointed. This was our first visit to Cafe L'Auberge, a former church circa 150 years old. This place has a nice french feel, is very cosy and was ideal for us celebrating my partners birthday. Water, glasses and a menu arrived quickly and...as the menu did not show any alcoholic drinks my partner had a cup of tea and I had the water. As L'Auberge classifies itself as a Cafe, I assumed that it did not have a liquor licence, therefor no wine list. We both were disappointed, as we would have loved to have a glass of wine with our meal. Service was fine with the exception of the younger wait staff, who had limited menu knowledge. As an entree, we had the warm olives and the pate de foie pot. The olives were wonderful, but the pate the foie pot was tasty, but quite small. Both our mains, the charcuterie board and the fried camembert were very good, with plenty on the boards. I personally liked the selection of meats and the sliced, pickled cucumber, which were a good mix of sweet and sour. As no-one came to see if we wanted anything else, I went and paid the bill. I queried if they had a liquor licence. I was surprised when I was informed that they did, but only handed out a wine list when someone requests it. COME ON GUYS! Think of the $$$$ you lost out on. Frankly we both were a bit disappointed, because we expected more. Would I go again, maybe. We were reasonably happy with the food, but guys, smarten up your service, this venue could be soooo much better.More

Our first visit has been a real surprise. Welcoming, friendly staff directed us to a table and immediately provided good quality glasses and a bottle of water. Bit of a shame the water wasn't chilled though. We both ordered the l'auberge burger which arrived within...15 minutes of ordering. Whilst waiting for our order we observed people really enjoying escargot and French Onion soup. Lovely presentation and well cooked. Great value and we wont hesitate to visit again.More
