Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We walked past Innocent Bystander one afternoon and decided to book for dinner after seeing how delicious the food looked at the tables. It was very busy which was a good sign. The three of us decided on one starter each to share. The croquettes,...prawns and terrine. There were three croquettes. They were creamy and delicious. The terrine was very dry and came with four tiny, hard pieces of over toasted bread. There were only two prawns to share so they were divided between the three of us. For mains we ordered the lamb pizza (which came with a salad) and a bowl of fries to share. When the pizza arrived we all looked at each other and said “where’s the lamb”? There were only the tiniest bits of shredded lamb and a lot of cheese on a fairly large size pizza. The flavours and texture of the pizza were unusual and not enjoyable at all…we’ve had better at the local pizza shop. The fries ended up being the best part of the meal. We therefore didn’t know what to expect when it came to our desserts. The churros however were delicious with the dark chocolate sauce. The other two desserts (one with a mango slice over the top) and the other, a panna cotta, were pretty average. The drinks we ordered ( a dry white wine and two whisky’s and cokes) were enjoyable. The waitress we had was short and to the point when taking our orders. And never smiled. Having worked in hospitality for many years, I understand what it takes to engage people and to make them feel welcome. Our expectations were high for a great night out. Unfortunately it disappointed on many levels. Sorry to say, but we won’t be back.More

What a great find in the middle of Healesville. Easy menu with a few tasty alternatives for those who want something a bit different without being pretentious. Priced well, friendly service , good parking . We had lunch here on our way through to Warburton.... We would have happily gone back but unfortunately were travelling on; maybe next timeMore

This is a great restaurant for a very casual lunch. We went on a Sunday and despite being flat out the service was excellent. Food is consistently of high quality and we enjoy the local wines. My husband enjoyed the low-alcohol beer (surprise!). Wine tasting...makes the venue a bit more special and adds another dimension to the dining experience. Prices were average. We will definitely be back.More

We have had an amazing service at IB so much that when we visited Healesville for 4 nights, we spent 3 evenings dining at IB. The staff are a real credit 👏 🙌 to IB , they all love working at IB and this really...is reflected by their fabulous service. We felt like part of the IB family, we always received a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble Big shout out especially to Jayden, Jenna , Harry , it was really nice to get to know you over the past 3 evenings you all made each visit fun. Keep up the outstanding work. Next time we are in Healesville we'll definitely be visiting you 😉 Garry & ElaineMore

We were disappointed with two dishes. The first one was the size of the Broccolini and Almond dish, it had about one sprig of broccolini in it, chopped up, considering it cost $15 for this side it should had a lot more. In hindsight we...should have said something when it was served up. One of us ordered the paella and was told it was a large dish and would be ok if you were really hungry, so two of us decided to share. In fact I wouldn't call that large at all. It had only one large prawn which was not cooked and asked for a replacement. The replacement was very overcooked. Also had about 3 mussels a couple of slices of cooked pork belly and squid rings, also rice was quite bland. Other dishes ordered were 3 pizzas, Cacciatori Diavola was the good, other two OK. We enjoyed the beers and wine. We spoke to a waitress about the 2 dishes when she was clearing the plates and she said that the broccolini was the normal size. She didn't serve it up so how did know what size it was. Just didn't want to hear if anything wasn't right even though she asked.More

Lunch as part of tour. Ordered paella, French fires, mushroom and sausage pizzas. Sausage pizza was very spicy. Mushroom was ok and fries was thin cut but not crispy enough.

Return visit to one of our favourite wineries in the Yarra valley after 13 years. New purpose built premises are great as is their wine (as always) - so good we bought the T-shirt! Highly recommended.

The Innocent Bystander restaurant and wine shop are conveniently located in the centre of Healesville. It's a big place and lacks warmth or charm however the food & wine are good.

We stopped in for a wine tasting. For $5 it’s ok, but little information was given about each wine. Had it been a more interactive and fun we might have brought some but instead we got a little bored and left.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve been somewhere with such amazingly dedicated service. We felt we had our own private waiter. It was busy but never once were we waiting to get someone’s attention. Especially 3 days before Xmas. Such rare care in catering...for dietary issues the food was divine. Been wanting to try for ages as heard so many good things and I can see why. Great atmosphere abs can’t fault a thingMore
