I am actually at a loss on how to review this place, but here you go - you asked for a review, here it is. I am at a loss of the multi star reviews, did we eat at the same place because our experience...simply does not align. We went for a birthday dinner, and honestly it was just awful - birthday celebration succesfully ruined in one swift hit. Arrived at 7pm and out the door a little before 8pm. The food quality and presentation was simply terrible. Quality and experience of waitstaff and the noise level only added to the misadventure of dining here. The only thing going for it is the lovely bay view - and the garlic bread which was very tasty! Fish and chips - fish tasted frozen and cold chips. Fish chowder pie - inedible - under baked, and the "chowder"was a salty gluggy saucy mess of something, nothing chowder about it. Southwest chicken salad - bland soggy salad and cold dried out pre cooked chicken. Chicken scallopine, underwhelming and brown. Even the kids pasta was an uninspired mess. We all left at least two thirds of the food on the plates. Which should have given them a hint - but no, didn't even seem to register with them. The only restaurant I have ever dined out that proudly states on their menu: "Due to our dedication to maintaining the integrity and consistency of our dishes we kindly ask that no modifications or substitutions be made". Translation - Sorry, our pre prepared food from our supplier is what it is and we can't change what's in it (or not in it). Followed by: "If you have a severe food allergy we recommend bringing a meal". They support bringing an external meal to their restaurant for consumption. Most efficient part of the evening was how quickly they processed our $275 bill - they know how to work an EFTPOS machine They did offer free dessert (we politely passed) - and they then offered to look after us better next time. I can confirm there will be no next time.More

Haven't been to Waves for 20 year. What a pleasant surprise. Service was great & the food was excellent - restaurant was full. Unfortunately they were not serving on the outdoor balcony that evening. Dining on the balcony was the only thing that could have...improved the experience. Entrees Crab Bao Buns & arancini balls - fantastic. Mains Seafood Chowder & Barramundi - fantastic. We recently dined at Ten Minutes by Tractor (Red Hill) & The Hut (Byron Bay) - both these dining experiences were up there with Tedesca (Red Hill) And as expected very expensive. Waves food not quite up to these standards but at about half of the cost great value for money.More

I absolutely love this restaurant. Devine Devine Devine! The views of the water are beautiful and depending on the time of day the views are fabulous for lunch on a sunny day it is wonderful and for dinner a sunset is lovely. The food is...wonderful and I have never had a bad meal. I live in Pakenham and Waves is in Frankston which is such a distance away so it is always a special event that happens to visit the restaurant.More

I don’t know why this restaurant has only 4 stars. Our family of 5 had a great lunch there. The location is amazing with nice views of the beach. It must be even nicer for dinner time. Food was scrumptious. Plates are generous. Variety of...options including gluten free. Kid meal was given a thousand thumbs up by my 6 yrs old. Dessert were yum. Most of all, staffs were so friendly and nice making it look like everything’s a breeze. Thank you for excellent all round management.More

This is a very nice place. The view is beautiful at sunset, the food is amazing and the service is lovely. And to complete that the price is reasonable. So very good experience.

Just returned from dinner to celebrate our anniversary- great experience!! Firstly one of the few places open on a Monday. Great location on the beachfront in Frankston with stunning views, simply elegant and tastefully decorated, young friendly staff( Kira and manager Olivia), accommodated our request...to move tables because of a slight draught, very reasonably priced menu and wine list, quick service, food excellent and presented well, quiet ambience, total cost for two with entree to share and two main courses( seafood and lamb curry with rice, salad and naan bread ) plus two glasses of wine and small bottle of Pelegrín’s came to $109 excluding tip. The Indian Chef made an exquisitely tasty curry. Highly recommend it - couples, family or friends out for a night. We’ll take our extended family there for Sunday lunch to enjoy the views even more with a walk on the beach before moving in for the meal. Hidden treasure on the Mornington Peninsula without the need for driving too far down if one is coming down from the city.More

Excellent location , food & staff - highly recommend Waves. Stunning views as right on the beach - plenty of metered parking right next door. We have been to lunch here a few times in the last year & cannot fault it - the staff...are great , friendly and efficient. The food is delicious - we have tried the cheesy garlic bread , calamari , seafood pasta , seafood chowder , crab bao buns … everything is beautifully cooked & presented. Great place to chill & have a leisurely lunch or dinner.More

It was my husband's birthday and we wanted somewhere nice, good surroundings and great food. Waves On the Beach really delivered on all three. We had a table for two looking out on Frankston Beach on a day with blue skies and golden sands. We...had a 3 course lunch each, a glass of bubbly and tea and coffee. I gave the staff a candle and matches to have a surprise blowing out of a candle with the dessert and that all happened easily The food was so good, every mouthful and it was a wonderful birthday lunch, just as I hoped.More

Four of us enjoyed a Friday lunch here recently. Service right from the go was fantastic, showing us to a table and taking our drinks order without delay. A great selection of food on the menu, no need to order sides as the mains came...with extras. The barramundi was moist and tasty, the seafood chorizo risotto delicious and sticky date pudding fantastic. The service was exemplary as our waitress was prompt with the food and drinks, and regularly kept checking in on us. The restaurant was fully booked, so it was great to see our orders arriving on time with the waiting staff going about their business in a polite and professional manner. Highly recommended.More

We'd dined here quite a long while ago and weren't impressed. However, we had a 5.30 appointment in Frankston and she suggested that we give it another try. At 6pm, the restaurant was already pretty busy and, by the time we left two hours later,...it was packed and several tables were onto their second sitting. Obviously, a popular spot considering it was a Monday. We started with a couple of Asahis for me and a ginger lemon iced tea mocktail for her (lasting longer on dry January than expected). Entrees were the chicken satay (very tender and 6 skewers) and the lamb cigars washed down with a glass of Hahns merlot for me. Both very good. Mains were the ginger salmon for her and the barramundi for me. Both were excellent and massive servings. A bottle of Lake Breeze chardonnay was a great accompaniment. As the sun glare dropped away, quite a few people moved out to the deck tables and the beach looked beautiful. Service was very good as was the overall atmosphere. We'll definitely return.More

Had a voucher from Christmas. Lovely lunch on the balcony. Good selection of " small " share plates and mains. Prices slightly high for small plate selection, average ish for mains, $30+ and up. View over water being right on Frankston Beach is lovely. Parking...at rear of restaurant is paid for two hours, unlikely to get a park if hot weather, as this is taken up by beach goers. But you should be able to find street parking easily, particularly on weekends. Well presented, good service. A lovely gift from family.More

Hi Liza - thanks for your question. The dress code is casual - the only rule is that you cannot be shoeless and must wear a top i.e. no swimwear, men topless in board shorts etc... Cheers - Nathan
