We dined at the restaurant of Astra Lodge last night having been there several times before during the ski season. This season the food was superb in both preparation and presentation. We understand they have a French chef in for the season. Entrees of salmon...infused with beetroot as well as some coquilles were a great start beautifully presented. We took wine by the glass trying a Henscke reisling the entree. For mains we chose trout and a chicken, both accompanied by a range of beautiful vegetables. A side of fries with truffle butter went well as duck an Indigo pinot from Beechworth nearby and a King Valley Pinot Gris also near by We managed to share the strawberry and nougat desert which was a work of art. I finished with a wonderful short black coffee which unfortunately kept me awake half the night. Partner sensible had tea! Overall a great eating experience in a beautiful snow country setting with the snow illuminated and highly visible from inside.More

For a 5-star establishment, the restaurant's management of my booking request is not even worthy of a single star. I sent in a booking request 6 weeks prior to our arrival to secure a table for a group of 13 at 6pm. A staffer by...the name of Sam advised that due to Covid-19 we may have to sit in separate tables, which I didn't have an issue with. What was totally unprofessional was a week out from our arrival, we were told that they couldn't accommodate our time and group size, and instead offered us a group of 10 people at 8.45pm, knowing full well it was so different from what we required we couldn't possibly accept. It was clear it was their sneaky way of turning down our reservation for reasons unknown, which left a very sour taste in our mouths. Thanks Astra and Sam for the great start to our trip. Never again.More

Hi Joe, As noted, we had a pre-booking for your group of 13 people in early July. With restrictions mounted on tables of no more than 6 people we contacted you to discuss alternative seating and sitting times. It was certainly a challenging period for...More

Atmosphere with the fire is a big tick, especially in winter, and being able to relax in a chair or couch is nice. The restaurant itself has good, tasty food for on mountain, however it isn't cheap, and if you have a big appetite, you...may be hungry if you just have a main course. To bulk out the mains, add in a few of the side dishes, or dessert. Some issue with communication, I sent a few messages in relation to catering for kids and if they had a kids menu, with no response. Best to either go there in person and ask or call if you want someone to respond.More

We attended the disco night during our 4 day stay after many different venues advised it would be a great night. We got there early and sat down, some finger food was bought around which was really nice. As the night got on the place...got busier and busier to the point were there were no clear walkways as people were just crammed in - we got it was a big night so didn’t mind too much. Went up to the bar and lined up for 45 minutes, 30 of those minutes we were at the front on the bar and for whatever reason the bartender continued to skip over myself and my husband. The only reason I can conclude is the bartender saw we weren’t in costume so knew we weren’t local and didn’t want to serve us. I also had another lady come up from a different side of the bar and say the same thing to me that she had been waiting for a drink and couldn’t get served (again not in costume). The quality of drinks going out was shocking with jugs going out 2/3s full as well as beers etc. I get it was busy but having bartended a busy club for a few years myself there isn’t any excuse for it. Finally we got served and the guy asked my husband our order and then asked someone else theirs and then did their order and came back and asked us again, then asked someone else what they wanted then again asked my husband what we wanted. And after repeating the order 3 times we still got Canadian club instead of the fireball that was ordered. My previous order was also incorrect and when I asked the bartender he seemed annoyed at me when he had repeated back the order correctly at the time of placing it and given me soda water instead of lemonade. After that we packed up and decided to head back to our hotel so we could get a drink! Don’t recommend on a busy night, I don’t know if it would be better on a normal night.More

So disappointed in this restaurant. Lovely bar area with a restaurant but the afternoon apres bar crowd spilled over into the restaurant area, including many small children at 7pm onwards. This made for a noisy, messy restaurant environment that spoilt the food consumption which was...priced in the mid $30s to early $40s for a main meal. Needs to figure out if it’s a high end restaurant or casual dining. Ps if I book for 2 people many days ahead don’t sit me at a table for 4 and then not even ask me if I am happy to have 2 others join us.More

Terrible bar staff and management turned a blind eye. Spent a lot of money - just go somewhere else. Not worth it

This is by far the best place to eat on the mountain. The staff and management are second to none, the ambience is beautiful and the food sublime. It was the highlight of our weekend we had scallops and venison which was cooked to perfection...and tasted so good. We even treated ourselves to desert which we don’t normally do, it more than lived up to expectations. Can’t wait to go backMore

What a stunning place to have an beautiful meal at. This has to be on your list of places to visit when at falls creek. The meals were fantastic and well priced. The lounge area with the couches by the massive open fire added that...comfort to sit back and enjoy a bottle of wine after our meal. Will be back again next season for sure!!More
