We stopped at The American Hotel when we were visiting Creswick and weren’t disappointed. The welcome was second to none. The food was amazing. The staff warm, friendly and professional. The pint of Guinness the best this side of the Liffey. Many thanks for your...hospitality and my 60th birthday drink!!!!!!!More
Dinner for family, took almost an hour for meals to arrive, some were not as hot as expected and naan bread missing from one meal. Meals reasonable but certainly not generous size for cost.
After an average dining experience on Thursday night, we were hoping that the American would live up the hype. A nice, warm and cosy pub, it was a little different to what I was expecting. Blank butchers paper and pens/crayons to doodle.....ooookkkk. Thats where the...hate stops. The menu was expansive, drink menu excellent and the service was exceptional. Wait time wasn't too bad and portion sizes good. The table enjoyed the renowned Black Pepper Sausages, Barra and the Seafood Linguine. Chefs kisses all round from the diners. If you only have one night in Creswick and are tossing up between the Farmers Arms and this place, go American!More
We had the best time at the American on Saturday night; fabulous burgers and beautiful fresh salad whilst sitting at the lounge bar. Freindly staff and patrons having a fun time at a Johnny Cash gig. Service was great and the staff were attentive whilst...extremely busy. A great pub venue, filled with locals and visitors. Very happy and have already recommend venue and menu to another local with a friend visiting soon.More
Tonight I had the very worst dining experience I've ever had at this place. We ordered one kid meal two steaks bottle of wine. Wine was nice only at the end glanced at label not the tabling I ordered. They brought wrong meal out to...my partner...then fixed that by bringing extra salad and chips that they subsequently charged for...yep you heard right...I paid for their error on the bill....anyway her steak was medium rare when ordered as medium...actually first one was rare second medium rare ...she ate it anyway but pointed all this out...Cate factor from four different staff...zero....three times excuse made kids were learning..but how do you get the wrong wine when I held the list up pointed to it as I read it and she took it down? I asked that the owners be informed of the carnage that passed off as service...I doubt that happened as at the till...really sorry but full price anyway...no effort at all to make restitution despite admitting the night was a shambles. Seriously this wAs a cross between faulty towers and kitchen nightmares....luckily they have a good meat supplier...steaks were nice mine cooked correctly partners ...well..They can't cope with cooking a medium steak...or maybe we got someone else's.meal twice...who knows. I seriously will be telling people at work how bad rhis joint was...moved to Ballarat in 2010... never seen anything as comically bad anywhere I've ever gone for a meal at before...went from frustrated to angry to bemused as it was just laughable and the owner frankly should hang their head in shame even charging for ruining a night out. Disgraceful. Do not go there..We won't ever again.More
Very delicious and substantial meals, we had the chicken tenderloins with bbq sauce. The chicken was perfectly cooked and very tender with a house made coating. I asked for a substitution of vegies and roast chat potatoes instead of fries and coleslaw. The vegetables were...a serve of cauliflower cheese, a serve of green bean ratatouille and two perfectly toasted chat potatoes. My husbands coleslaw was fresh and light with a homemade dressing and perfectly cooked crunchy chips. I could not fault the meal and it was one of the nicest meals I have ever had!More
Plan your trip and book ahead - we were very happy to find the American Hotel open on a Wednesday evening and had a delicious dinner with very friendly and happy staff serving us. The restaurant was busy and full of locals. Unlike some of...the other hotels in Creswick, this one has maintained all of it's historical charm and it's well worth a visit to return to the 1850's when looking through the bars and restaurant...all facilities are of course 21st Century! We drank a delicious Miles from Nowhere Cab Merlot from Margaret River - which went down really well with streak and a Thai beef salad.More
We had a 20 person family group get together 13yrs to 80 yrs. We were allocated the Green room which gave us a private space to celebrate an 80th birthday. Brad and Jess looked after us and did an amazing job. Food was great and...service first class. Would not hesitate to recommend. Great country hospitalityMore
The American Creswick is a great place to grab a meal. Dine in or their take away are both magnificent. Their take away meals taste just as good as if they served you at your own table. We love their chunky chips and ribs are...divine. Finding the American in Creswick was one of the best things that come out of Victoria’s lockdowns.More
Really great food, very friendly staff, prompt and helpful service. Would definitely recommend a.visit.
We had dinner one night (vege stack and texan chicken burger) and we couldn't fault it. The place is a beautiful country pub and lots of rooms to eat and drink in. The service is very welcoming and professional at the same time. We thought...that the service was fantastic and didn't know till we were leaving that they were 2 staff down due to sickness so they did an extremely amazing effort considering. The menu had great variety and plenty of drinks on offer as well. Really great place, value for money and what you'd expect from a Victorian country pub. Looking forward to going back.More
My family and I Visited Creswick. We thought we would try the American Hotel. I was greatly surprised by the warmth of the place and friendly staff. The food was exceptional. We had the peppered calamari salad, the American burger and the pork spare ribs....Great atmosphereMore
Ambiance – Energetic feel in the place COVID 19 – They seemed to distance tables very well even though they were very busy. They seem to accept walk-in but I suspect they had room outside. Staff – Pleasant but not very attentive. I will put...it down to the fact that they were packed on the night we dined. Unfortunately waited nearly an hour for our meal which was disappointing as we had booked our table in advance. If I was advised on arrival the wait time, we would have gone elsewhere. But I was told 20 min after ordering. Meal – Nothing to write home about, it was pub grub. Nice but I would not go again. Too many nicer places in the area. American Southern Fried Chicken – tasty but I wish they did not use “tenderloins” as it felt like a kids meal NY Burger – HUGE and very tasty Value for money but would not go againMore
We had our end of year work party at the American in Creswick. What an awesome time was had by all. We had pre dinner drinks and finger food on the balcony which was great with views and live entertainment. Dinner was in the Lindsay...Room which is just beautiful with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dinner was awesome - I myself had the fish and hubby had a steak. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the American for all your functions.. Thanks again!More
