We chanced upon the Farmers Arms after looking for somewhere for dinner in the area and reading a few reviews. We turned up without a booking and were able to be seated within 15 minutes. The ambiance was very pleasant. The menu was varied and fresh, with much local produce. The food was stunning, and completely exceeded my expectations. The food was flavoursome, the colours vibrant and the care very much apparent. The children really enjoyed their meals, and we were pleasantly surprised when the ice cream included with the children's meals was a house made vanilla bean ice-cream. We were so impressed that we booked in for dinner 2 days later. On our second visit, we sampled their steaks that they butcher in-house. The steak was juicy, cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. The clearly take a lot of pride and care in their ingredients and food. We will be visiting the Farmers Arms again when we are next in Creswick.

Dined at the Farmers on two consecutive nights...on the first night all members of the group who selected pasta based dishes were very complementary about those; the fried dishes selected by others were so oily/greasy as to be unpalatable. On the second night, steaks and pork belly were exceptional. Mixed messages about serving sizes available. Service generally above average although meals so to arrive at table. It was a pity the manager chose to very publicly withdraw a staff member from service, and then remonstrate with another staff member who appeared to be providing support.

We ate as a family of 4 adults Friday night and it was sensational. Shared a grazing plate then steak, pork belly X s and Parma. Generous servings and perfectly prepared. Good wine list as well. Well worth a visit.

I have never ever felt the need to leave a bad review as I'm a firm believer in constructive criticism but i think this place needs a harsh reality check. We had a booking for 6pm and were quite excited to go here as they had a number of gluten free options for me as I'm a coeliac. And who doesn't love a good country pub. So we got there around 5.50pm and there was not many people there at this stage and we were seated promptly. My husband and i both ordered a drink and then i asked the waitress about gluten free options. She was very polite but said she didn't know the menu well and would have to check on a few things. There were basically 3 things from the whole menu i could have which i found a little disappointing but decided on the roast chicken and my husband chose pork. It took 25 minutes to receive our first drinks and then we had to ask for water as there was none on the table. The waitress apologized for the wait of our drinks. All the staff were really lovely but they were all rushing around which we found odd as there weren't that many people when we first came in. Then more and more people came in and after 1 hour of waiting we still hadn't received our meals. One waitress saw us sitting there annoyed and came and said sorry about the wait but we have a few big groups here tonight and she laughed as she said it. This we found interesting as all the groups had come in after us. So we ordered another round of drinks because we were so hungry. They came a little quicker this time. After seeing 3 different groups who had come in after us and been fed and now left we finally got our meals after 1.5 hours. By this time we were so annoyed that the we ate so quickly because we just wanted to leave. The food was ok. Then paying the bill was even an ordeal for the girl who was clearly flustered. and don't know what she was doing. I'm happy to wait for a meal to a degree but It was really disappointing waiting 1.5 hours for meals that i think we should have received in 1/2 an hour and is not like they had just reopened either. I think they need to hire more staff and have them trained in dealing with high volumes of people. We dined in other places much busier and received our meals in a more timely manner. I would not return here due to the staff almost having a attitude of were busy so its normal to wait so long.

Having lunched here before, eating there more standard pub fare (beer battered fish and chips, house pie) I decided to try the sticky glazed pork loin with Asian salad. I was surprised when the meal was brought to me in very short time. Good food takes time to cook. The meal was little more than entrée size, the salad was swamped with coriander both as an ingredient and a garnish, the sauce lacked any complexity and tasted like it had been poured out of a bottle and the pork looked like it had come from different pieces of loin as the thicknesses were not uniform. The rind was not crackled but gelatinous and the meat was dry and appeared as if it had been cooked twice making it overcooked. Upon leaving and requesting the bill, we voiced our dissatisfaction but the staff did not seem all that interested. So often hotels can cook the standard pub fare but do not have the time or the experience to do justice to Asian dishes which should have a depth and complexity of flavour. Really disappointing as we had again travelled out of our way to eat at this hotel and we feel inclined that this is the last time we will come here. If this is Victoria's 'Best Pub' they should be serving better quality meals, especially considering they are charging 'restaurant prices' for their dishes and be more concerned when a repeat customer is not happy with their meal.

First time ever that roast chicken was offered with no vegetables or even chips (pay extra for chips) just an unidentifiable hash brown thing on the side and a Cos lettuce with aioli and a sprinkle of parmesan ALL swimming in jus. Wife wanted to upsize the starter Calamari to mains size - No you have to buy sides if thats not enough. Waiting staff didn't know anything about the menu when asked, nor did she understand what a light beer was. I ended getting a bottle of Cascade not a pot. Not happy with our $72 lunch. The wine was ok though. How did this pub win an award as the best pub in Vic?

We went to the Farmers Arms Creswick for lunch. We had high expectations as the website and past reviews suggested the pub treated ingredients with respect with food being sustainably sourced sourced from paddock to table. We ordered steaks medium rare and were disappointed that the beautiful meat was overcooked and dry. Further, the hand cut fries were only just cooked which further detracted from the meal. The staff were friendly and the pub itself had a very cosy atmosphere. Unfortunately we wouldn't recommend detouring to the pub for a steak however they had lots of other appealing menu items.

Having lunched here many times before, we thought we would try and support the local businesses. We can only order as take away at the moment so we ordered the flat head tails with chips and salad. There was only about 1 & 1/2 pieces of fish and it was not flat head tails and about a handful of chips with no salad. The calamari did not come with a salad either, I had to go back and ask for the salads and they only gave me one, which was not Asian slaw only red cabbage with some mayonaise (pretty disgusting). We paid full menu price. Really disappointing as we had again travelled out of our way to eat at this hotel and we feel inclined that this is the last time we will come here. If this is Victoria's 'Best Pub' they should be serving better quality meals, and should be more concerned when a repeat customer is not happy with their meal.

A really great local restaurant. My chicken was cooked to perfection and I would be happy to have my meal cooked this well in any town within Melbourne. My husband was licking his lips with his pasta beef ragu. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food.

We came on a Sunday night for dinner (not much choice really as the other pub in Creswick is closed on Sundays). I had the $20 pie and pot special. I was really surprised at just how good it was. Awesome flaky pastry with a generous and delicious meat and mushroom filling. With chunky wedges, salad and a home made sauce it really was a great deal. My wife had the $26 flathead which was also very nice. Definitely recommended especially for the Sunday special. Might be a good idea to come early because they ran out of pies by 7:00 PM.

Ordered chicken schnitzel and chip with salad, glass of lemonade…. The chicken tasted old and smelt funny, Chicken was over fried dark brown thick crumb that was not on chicken just pillowing around it…chips left in fryer till fossilised they then compounded the oil on plate with the premixed salad doused in tasteless oily dressing. A simple glass of lemonade was nasty- postmix was dirty or their ice is dirty…spent $70 , advised staff meal horrible and I knew I had to pay but I would have expected to be at least discounted. All we got was a yeah sorry from lovely bar man then watched rest of staff gather together and stare at us as we left!!! Plastic flowers and matching staff tshirts are covering up laziness. Tables in restaurant sticky and not sealed so table seams had a varied array of old food and drinks….

This was so good, we went back for dinner after a fantastic lunch! Lunch consisted of snacks and a salad, generous servings and superb flavour and presentation. Dinner was again a feast for tastebuds as well as eyes! Again, Chef did not stint in quality or quantity. The minor criticism was the pasta was stuck together a little, but nothing which can't be rectified by a little more stirring! The choice of wines was limited but good and the cocktails were fine!

Sat, 17th December. Lunch. Staff were very thin on the ground and appeared very rushed. We waited 5 mins to be shown to our table and over 15 mins before any staff approached us. I have an allergy to particular foods. My first choice of meal was not available. I told the wait staff that I had an allergy. She was not interested but took my order which was a prawn, pasta and spinach dish. It arrived and consisted of basically pasta with tomato. It was very disappointing and cost over $80 per couple.

Nice old pub in Creswick. Very covid appointed. All staff wearing masks and plenty of hand sanitiser stations with a QR code at door. Service can be a bit slow but to be honest we were there for a catchup as well as food, so no issue. I had a glass of Rose for $9 a glass from a local winery. You could have wine by the glass or a bottle for the table. The Smoked Sher Wagyu Brisket served with hand cut chips and a leaf salad with jus,was delicious. The beef was melt in your mouth and the chips were nice and crisp with a fluffy inside. Salad was crisp and the dressing was subtle. I had the Forest Berry Pavlova, that was big enough for 2 people. My friends had the House Made Pie which was beef and mushroom with hand cut chips and salad. Unfortunately the did not have real lactose free milk. Only Soya or Almond milk. Luckily I remember to bring some Lacteeze to change the lactose in the milk. My coffee was good. Would go here again, nice cosy feel.

We were greeted by the staff asking for our vaccination certificate. Unfortunately she wasn’t wearing a mask at the time of asking. The food was served on a reasonable time, but was very disappointing. The market fish some of us ordered had very small portions, not like a normal pub meal and was quite tasteless. I also ordered a risotto which turned out to be tasteless and was a bit of a glutinous mess. The meals were very expensive even for a public holiday when we went. When this was mentioned to the staff, they replied that they try to get good quality fish so it’s expensive. That could be so, but they could give bigger portions of the good quality products. I understand that businesses need to recoup their loss of business during Covid lockdowns, don’t they need to do this by overcharging clients. All in all I wouldn’t recommend this place at this time.
