Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Was a little disappointed by the food as I have dined here on previous occasions although some allowance can be made for new owners only just taken over. Still should have been able to get a simple roast right.

Stopped in for lunch and had to go to the back section of the pub (this place is huge). Great service. Great people. Fish was a little greasy. Otherwise highly recommended

This was one of two pubs visited in Camperdown and the least impressive of the two. The dining area was typical old-style pub and not that attractive and the food was very large in size and not great at all. Fish and chips comprised two...large chuncks of fish, possibly cod the size of a miniature submarine covering a mess of chips and salad. If you like volume then this is the place for you but if you are looking for good quality and good cooking , look elsewhereMore

Yes, the meal took longer than expected to arrive, yet it was first class. The lamb rack was perfectly cooked and the classic fish and chips was also great. The ambience was also very pleasant.

Spent a lovely few days in Camperdown last week where I had the opportunity to visit Madderns pub quiet a few times for dinner. I got the opportunity to dine in both the bistro & sports bar where they offer the same menu but drinks...are different prices. The meals are large and very tasty and good value for money. The drinks in the bistro are more expensive than in the sports bar. A pot in the sports bar is $5.50 but in the bistro it is $6.50 for a stubby. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere in the bistro is nice but the sports bar has a better more lively atmosphere. Apart from normal meals & specials this pub also does pizza’s and although we didn’t get to try them the ones that we saw being delivered to other tables looked very appetising, we will definitely try these next time. Can’t wait to go back.More

Ambience and staff service was good. O thought being a country pub I should stick to a traditional pub grub and therefore can't go wrong.., it was a horrible, horrible assumption. It tasted like crumbed bolognese served with gravy😖...I don't know how they can get...it so wrong. Hope they go back to the drawing board and stick to the traditional recipe. In the plus side, they have the best chips I have ever tasted in this part of the world.More

We met some friends here to have dinner and catch up on a Friday night. The food was pretty good and we ordered s range at our table of 7 including steaks, parmigiana and lamb shanks. We all seemed to enjoy the meals. The only...disappointing aspect was the delivery. The first meal arrived about 20 minutes after ordering and he was waiting for the rest (as you do) before eating. But after 10 minutes we told him to get started. He was finished before the next meal arrived. This continued through the meal and plates continued arriving 1 or 2 at a time and over the next 30 minutes we all eventually got served. The food tasted fine, the service wasn’t so great.More

I had a couple of meals here recently, crumbed lamb, and a deconstructed burger (I am gluten intolerant so Maddens served the burger without the bun - it was great!). Good tasty pub food!

We were looking for a place to have our evening meal and happened to see Johno Madden's, which looked quite appealing from the street. Upon entering we were met by the friendly and efficient staff who allowed us to choose where we wanted to sit....We chose one of the booths and soon sorted out our meal and drinks. The food arrived promptly, looked appetising, and certainly didn't disappoint the tastebuds. The meals looked on the small side when they arrived, but both proved to be very filling. Any larger and they would have been wasted. Unlike some other reviewers, we found the meals arrived quickly, the beer and wine were fine, and we liked the atmosphere. Well done.More

On our last visit we waited 90 minutes for our meal and then left without eating because we had a function to attend. We were reluctantly given our money back and made feel that it was our fault that we were not told of the...wait and not kept inform after asking where our meal was at least 3 times. they have no idea what customer service is! The only reason i did not rate terrible is because we didn't get to taste the food.More

Called into The Pub for lunch on our way home from a weekend in Warrnambool. We are glad we stopped here. Waited 2 hours for a chicken parma, and that was after asking wait staff several times as to the estimated time; each time we were assured it would be out "shortly". The only thing worse than the service is the beer! It's as flat as...the asphalt on the Princess Highway out the frontMore
