Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is an amazing spot right near the picturesque Dandenong Ranges with delicious food, great service and overall a really great spot to go for a meal or drink, so I would recommend you check it out.

Great venue but the food choices let us down. 3 out of 5 of us are vegan and the options offered felt like our experience wasn’t as important as everyone else’s. Great venue and lovely staff but disappointing food means that as locals, we probably...won’t go back.More

Six of us celebrated a birthday. All reported good food across ribs, curry, burger and Parma. My scotch fillet was awesome, tender. Wide choice of beers, red wine bottle a little less value for quality. Atmosphere buzzy. Service was attentive considering a booked out Sunday...lunch. RecommendMore

Only time I have ever returned my food! The $48 riverine porterhouse steak came out looking like it has been defrosted, but that wasn’t the issue, my steak knife could not cut through the gristle let alone my teeth. Absolutely appalling! $48!! Bills of belgrave...or Greg’s tender joint are up the road guys, they will NEVER sell you a steak like that, how much profit do you need to make because you won’t get my business again. The staff were absolutely lovely however, very friendly and professional. Kitchen needs to take a good hard look at what they plate outMore

We asked for a plate of chips and was told the kitchen was closed and reopened at 5pm. Had a drink then asked for a plate of chips after 5pm and was told quite rudely to wait while they checked whether the kitchen was open....Then a waitress slapped a reserved notice onto the table in the bar area we had been sitting at for 90 minutes without saying anything then another came along a bit later to tell us the table was reserved and we would need to leave soon. No apologies and very unfriendly attitude shown by all the staff we encountered.More

We usually come to Micawber and have a wonderful time. Have never had a bad meal and if we have, they've always been great, BUT, today was next level wrong. I spent $50 on a steak which is at the upper end of costs, and...asked for it to be cooked medium rare. The steak came out and was very small and was cooked medium well. I brought it to the attention of the staff, and they took it back to the kitchen only to return with the same steak to say it was medium rare and I should accept it as is. The wait staff member agreed it looked over cooked, so at this point I asked for a Manager and he looked at it and at the table agreed it looked a little over cooked so took it away but he also said it wasn't something he'd complain about. Since when is it a matter of opinion of whether a meal is something to complain about or not?! It was far over cooked and for $50 it should be pretty close to perfect. Anyway, we have small kids so I decided that rather than wait for another steak to be cooked I'd rather cancel and get a refund so we could get the kids home. The manager agreed to cancel. I waited some time to see how the refund would work and then my wife went to the bar to ask about the refund only to be told they weren't going to refund as the steak was cooked correctly in their eyes. After an argument they did agreed to the refund and we left. Appauling customer service from the manager and this is the second time I've had a steak overcooked at this establishment so would not recommend it to anyone.More

Varied menu with options for differing tastes and levels of hunger. Liked the beers and the food was quite good. Chicken wings were a bit oily but the warm bread for starters was just beautiful. Visited on holiday but if I lived near I’d go...back.More

Previously only visited Belgrave to go on Puffing Billy. Micawber Tavern has changed that! We were blessed with amazing weather (low 30's in Melbourne, probs 26-28c in Belgrave). Plenty of room inside during the cooler and wetter months however the clincher was the beer garden...downstairs from the main entrance. Superbly set-up with a creek meandering along the garden providing a lovely sound and smell (fresh). Plenty of room for small to large groups to enjoy the live music that was on offer. Bar outside so you avoid taking the stairs and going back inside. Food was superb, not cheap, but nothing in Melbourne is in 2023. Superb service, a wide range of beer on tap and a decent wine list. The Mt Martha mussels were not available however the chicken parma and fish and chips were of ample size (not falling off the plate, but decent enough). Will certainly be returning for a longer session with a view to stay up on the hill.More

Waited for nearly two hours for our meals. Honestly we've never had worse meals. The entire six of us. Schnitzel covered in an oily sauce - inedible. Other tables waited for two hours for their meals too. Not good enough. Will never go back.

very dissapointing meal there tonight. Starter of olives and cob loaf was nice and value for money. The mains of calamari was inedible. It was large chunks in a strange tasting batter with no seasoning. The accompanying salad was drenched in dressing which was a...nice flavour but way too much of it. My partner had fish and chips and, while the fish was nice the batter was very greasy. It was a packed house to I gave the service some leaway. The table was not wiped however and we had to ask the waiter to clean it. No fork given to me. When the waitress took our plates away and I asked if the calamri was frozen she said she thought it was. She also mentioned that they'd had quite a few complaints about it and changed the brand. As most of mine were still uneaten on the plate I thought they may off no/reduced payment but nope. Just took the plate away. We left without trying the deserts....won't be back in a hurry. A shame as the food was good when it was first taken over.More
