Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Over the Easter weekend we were able to eat here at an outdoor table as we had our dog with us. The menu had a variety of choices, enough to keep us both satisfied.
Our meals arrived in a timely manner despite it being rather busy.

This wasn't the 1st time I have been to this establishment, But was the 1st time for lunch.
I have to say did not disappoint the gnocchi was amazing a small size serving but packed with flavour, Add in nice cold and varied beer/spirt selection that takes in a whole wall. Has been added to the lunch lost that's for sure

Recommended by local however it was an average meal. No pepper sauce available for steak on menu and also ran out of other items on a relatively small menu. Hubby’s gnocchi lacked presentation and taste. Staff friendly but totally unprepared- both girls had no idea if table service or go to bar to order when serving us and other customers in the door at start of service.

Went for dinner last night, limited menu, food was nothing to write home about. Ordered duck spring rolls came out with 2 giant rolls and 3 massive lettuce leaves, rolls were very gamey. Son ordered Schnitzel no salad it arrived with a salad of lettuce and what looked like red cabbage leaves and nothing else.

We were recommended by the Bistro next door to eat here, so we thought we would get a great meal. Sadly not!
On a Monday night with few customers, we waited over 50 minutes for our food. One of our dishes was Gnocchi but it was burnt and dry when it arrived, The fish and chips was okay and the goats cheese tart was tasty but, for it shouldn't take so long. If they had told us when we ordered that there is only one person in the kitchen and food was taking so long, we would of gone elsewhere. For the prices we would expect better quality food.
It is such a shame as the building is historic and would of been majestic years ago.

The menu advertised on the website was not what we were offered.
I had the vegetable lasagne with very little vegetables in it accompanied by the “special “ salad which was special in that it was in a tiny bowl drowned with dressing. My partner had the battered fish and chips. Again poor salad about four chips on the plate and two pieces of ?fish in a doona of batter. Yuk.
You’re right the pub does have a country feel with log fire and live music but I wouldn’t go there to eat again.

This great country hotel in Beechworth is a great place for a pub lunch. Choice of inside dining or tables under the street front awning (great to watch the world go by) and a good bistro menu. The chicken schnitzel was great but unfortunately the pulled pork roll was very salty. The drinks from the bar were served very cold, perfect for a hot December day. The staff were excellent, friendly, engaging with a sense humour.

Very disappointed. Menu looked great on paper and most people in our group of 14 were happy. I chose the Confit Duck. The apple salad was delicious but the duck itself was very dry and not worth the $36.00 I paid which I commented on to the waiter when he collected our plates. I was dining with a group and a sharing the cost of drinks. We were drinking Weathercraft Pino Grigio which is a beautiful local wine which we enjoyed but over three bottles the price varied from $50.00 for the first bottle, $44.00 for the second bottle and $55.00 for the third bottle??????? We are local Beechworth people and I won’t rush to go back.

We were meant to enjoy a get together with old friends. This was the worst and overpriced food for a simple pub lunch in our lives. Schnitzels , fish and parma’s were all overcooked and the chips undercooked and white. Never again and this peeves me as we are locals.

Not much open in Beechworth on a Monday night. This was next door to Bridge Street Brewery and the menu was simple honest food-just what we wanted. Servings were large and food was delicious. Steak was rare as requested. Staff very friendly and all Covid rules observed, A pleasure to spend an hour out on the deck.

This pub is, simply put, the best pub in town. Tanswells is an historic building where it’s rumoured, the bushranger, Ned Kelly, frequented. He may have even slept in room 5 upstairs. Tanswells had a range of great beers. My favourite is Stanley Larger, produced from fine artesian water in the nearby hamlet of Stanley. Great food & regular live music from near & far. Enjoy!

What a great old pub, built in 1873 I think and looks like the original floor boards are still in place.
Best take your credit card though, a scooner of draft beer and a glass of house white $26 (ouch) and let's be honest, fish and chips is actually 2 fish cocktails and french fries for $26 and a small green salad for an additional $3....really???

Had a birthday dinner for six, including four carnivores and two vegetarians. It was a very busy night, and we were delighted with the prompt and welcoming service. We tried all the meat dishes from the fire and all were SPECTACULAR! The vegetable dishes were brilliant as well, very fresh and beautifully cooked. Lovely wine list as well. 5 stars!!!

This grand old country pub in Beechworth is well worth the visit if you are in town for lunch. The bistro menu has a modern take on your typical pub grub, for example the bangers and mash had chorizo sausages. Well presented meals with plenty of inside or outside seating including footpath tables that allow you to watch the world go by.

We arrived for lunch understanding they were busy. We were told a 20 minute wait for a table. ok we said we had a drink at the bar in anticipation however after the 20 minutes when we sought the staff out for a table we were told the kitchen had an hour backlog!!!! Tell us that at the start we would have gone somewhere else….disrespectful I’m sorry… if it’s that busy close the kitchen in future. When raised with staff they said oh well it’s Beechworth you won’t get served anywhere. We went to a cafe served in 10 minutes. Will never go back
