Amazing little restaurant found in the main strip of Beechworth. All our meals were five star. They were perfectly cooked , balanced and presented. Just goes to show you can find amazing and exquisite dining in a small country town. The heirloom beetroot salad ,...rabbit pasta, steak , gnocci , duck with polenta all amazing. We finished our meals with a bang, their signature dessert , honey panacotta with lemon curd icecream and omg it was absolutely devine. Put the ox and hound on your must do list if in Beechworth.More

We actually went to dinner here two nights in a row as The Empire Hitel had to cancel our booking due to insufficient numbers as a result of the Melbourne Covid 19 lockdown. The menu was sufficiently diverse that we found something to enjoy both...nights. The staff were excellent and the room very nice. The wine list had a good selection of local and non local wines.More

We enjoyed this restaurant immensely. Had no trouble getting in a second time and also a third time despite being very busy. The service was very friendly and efficient and we felt very welcome especially on our return visits. The chef cooks with high quality...food and fresh ingredients with a delicious slant on Italian or French flavours. I have to say we tasted the best dessert we have ever eaten (their signature dessert) and will have memories of this for a long time!More

Ox and Hound caught our eye on the main street and we booked this quaint looking restaurant. To be honest it was all ok but the service left us a little flat. The staff just didn’t know the menu or wine list. A featured local...Chardonnay on the blackboard could not be described, the trout on the menu - was unsure whether it was a whole trout or fillet. Table service was equally hit and miss with beer poured until it over flowed the glass as the waiter walked away. The food was good. The wild rabbit fettuccine was wholesome and the duck was nice. The special dessert was fabulous- we shared it and the flavours really interesting and the portion generous. I’d go back.More

My husband visited this restaurant a long while ago and really wanted to visit again with me. It was a lovely little place we found the the older gentleman waiter quite rude from the moment we walked in but the lady was very helpful and...talkative. The food was delicious if you like rabbit order the wild rabbit pasta it was amazing! Definitely worth a visitMore

I emailed Ox and Hound to try and get in for an early dinner on Saturday night just past, as we had a tour booked at the asylum quite early in the evening. The team at O&H were very accommodating and managed to fit us...in! Arriving at 5:30 on Saturday we were quickly addressed by name and invited inside while they completed tasks for opening the restaurant. Our waiter (so sorry we didn't catch his name!) was absolutely fantastic. Very attentive and polite, even though we were in a rush so only ordered one meal and one drink each. The rabbit pasta and the gnocchi were sublime (rabbit has some gristle, but is to be expected with game meat), and the duck fat potato waffle was absolutely delicious. Sad we had to rush and didn't think to take photos, but we will definitely be back again to spend some more time and sample more food at the Ox and Hound!! Thank you again!!More

We had a fantastic night at the Ox and Hound. There were seven of us and the food was fabulous from the delightful Souflle to the superb terrine, the local trout and the terrific fettuccini with rabbit ragout. The staff were fabulous and the wine...list was full of really good, interesting and well priced wines with many local drops. Terrific night and highly recommended in BeechworthMore

My friend and I were passing through town and were fortunate to score last minute accommodation next door. Choosing o&h for dinner, there weren't any vacancies so we took the outside table. To our horror, our main waiter was cold and brutal towards us. It...was almost a caricature of a 1920s New York elite restaurant. He wouldn't speak to us, he was dismissive and rude when we asked a few questions, he disregarded us and worked in staccato rhythm as he lay down cutlery and my beer. My rabbit pasta and two sides were both really good, but finally the waiter came out and took our empty plates without a word. He barely put his head out the door to say "the bill?" once more. Our time had come and we were being given the shove on, despite there being a vacant outdoor table. A different, really beautifully natured waiter came out to give us our bill. My friend hesitatingly brought his colleague up and said we'd had a terrible night, the man had been cold and punishing. This waiter was sooo lovely and empathised, said that the colleague had required supervision, was known to be difficult due to his self-regard of education and status, etc., and had been the Head Waiter at Bennelong. He profusely apologised for the treatment and even treated us to a couple of glasses of port. He absolutely redeemed the evening for us and it made the difference between this being a 3, not 1, star review. Amazing service, the guy was a legend. Thank you so much!More

We had a great dinner here - a superb little bistro. Two excellent pastas and a delicious pannacotta. There was also a great wine list and the service was friendly, professional and well versed on the region. Food is fresh, delicious and well made. Definitely...somewhere to book ahead if you’re planning a visit to Beechworth!More
