Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Decided to try this restaurant as other reviews said it was good..... Well it WAS. The pea risotto was very tasty and the boar ragu amazing. Dessert went for the chocolate one and it was the best ever. Service was excellent.

Everything at The Ox and Hound was absolutely perfect. The location, the service and of course the food. Couldn’t fault anything here. The only downside is that we live in Sydney and not around the corner :)

We ate for dinner on Friday night. The restaurant was fully booked. It has fewer options in each of the courses than many restaurants, but I quite like the lack of indecision this causes when you have too many things to choose from ! The...floor staff were very attentive. The food was delicious. A little more pricey than our normal dinners out but we both had a couple of glasses of wine where normally we choose BYO. Having said that, if we were to visit Beechworth again, would happily return.More

Early midweek dinner and only six clients. We’ve noticed this trend throughout victoria. People have stopped treating themselves to dining out except on special occasions. A pity because this small restaurant delivers fresh ingredients expertly prepared. We shared an entree of smoked trout. Unctuous. A...rabbit tagliatelle was reminiscent of of family meals in Austria.More

My husband order the entre of Three cheese soufflé, which he enjoyed. The gnocchi was not as enjoyable. I ordered the smoke trout with avocado plus the eye fillet both were thoroughly enjoyable.

I came with my wife, both our meals were absolutely delicious. My wife and I shared 2 entrees and I had fillet steak with a beautiful mash potato and greens. My wife had a lovely baked chicken dish. Desserts were delicious also. The wines were...beautiful local wines. The staff were courteous and attentive. A beautiful quaint restaurant with a lovely ambiance. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Beechworth. A great find.More

This is a superb and stylish bistro, with great hospitality, superb food (modern Australian) beautifully served, and a variety of local wines. We enjoyed everything about it.

Don’t let the name put you off. We had a perfect evening. Restaurant is small and at moment has just one chef. They carefully staggered start times so our group of six were booked for 8. This meant the wait staff were at perfect leisure...to chat and talk with us. They were charming! This also meant the restaurant was not too noisy. Menu is thoughtful with good options for meat and non meat diners. Everything was delicious. Just the right mix of beautiful, well prepared food served with care but without being too fussy. I had lovely fresh mozzarella and tomatoes; perfectly cooked beef fillet, and their signature honey dessert with amazing lemon curd ice cream. Strong recommend!More

Our number 1 restaurant pick in Beechworth. Divine from start to finish. You need to book a minimum of one month in advance. We saw them knock back three walk-ins.

For a thoroughly down to earth, high quality, local dining experience, you cannot go past the Ox and Hound. Centrally located, with a window onto the Main Street, this place is busy, and atmospheric, but not too rushed or crowded. I started with the local...freshwater trout, followed by the pork ragu and tubetti pasta. This was washed down with a Shiraz from the region. A lovely, local experience, and it’s obvious there is a lot of love in the cuisine. Oh, and the bill at the end of the evening will be another pleasant part of the occasion!More

It is a few years since we first ate here but my partner was hanging out for the gnocchi with gorgonzola as he has had their offering on a pedestal for years. He was not disappointed! The scallops and duck parfait were also good, and...the wine list samples the local area well. We will be back!More
