The dinner at the Provenance was worth the long wait during lockdowns and the drive from Melbourne. The service was outstandingly attentive and knowledgeable, explaining the dishes in detail, including some of the cooking methods. 18 small dishes are served in four courses, every single...one delicate and flavoursome. Poached octopus, vinegar jelly Ichiyaboshi Mushroom tofu, katsuobushi salt Duck heart yakitori, pickled magnolia flowers Pickles Grilled house made lap cheong Sweetcorn, pumpkin seed furikake Venus clams, sake, butter Hot smoked Harrietville trout, fermented tomato water, pickled onion Chirashizushi Fried blood pudding, tonkatsu sauce Sweet potato dengaku Grilled asparagus, karasumi, sake kasu sauce Chilled housemade udon noodles, citrus dashi Pork jowl, steamed eggplant, kanzuri Fried milk, miso sugar Pickled strawberries, sansho pepper Fig leaf cream, raspberries, elderflower vinegar granita This was matched with local wines and a sake. A beautiful experience, highly recommended for anyone who loves Japanese food.More

It's true what they say ... this really is a danceathon in your mouth. Michael has an uncanny ability to turn what looks like very little into something outstanding. There isn't one thing on the menu that we didn't "oohhh" and "ahhh" about and if...you come to Beechworth, this is a must!!More

We stayed in the Managers Residence which is above the restaurant, and dined last weekend. It was an AWESOME get-away !! The best we have ever had. The accommodation was heritage luxury. The 17 course Japanese inspired food was superb. At times we had the...incredible aromas from the kitchen wafting upstairs, mmmm. This is the perfect special occasion romantic adventure. Put it on your bucket list.More

Dined on a Sunday night. Due to COVID restrictions there were two sittings of only 10 diners in each. Despite the restrictions, the whole experience was unforgettably excellent. Staff were attentive, and the food was just so good - 16 small dishes over four courses,...each dish presented with exquisite attention to detail. Yes, it is expensive, but when you see what they do, the cost is definitely warranted. More than worth the 4 hour drive to get there.More

Large dog friendly area out the back, accessible via the laneway. Great food and super friendly service. Good selection of wines too!

The degustation menu was Japanese Bento Box style, but with more innovative and interesting dishes. There were 18 dishes in all, in 4 groups of 6, 5, 4, and 3. As you can imagine, some were better than others. My favourites were the Kingfish sashimi...with finely diced apple in a ponzu sauce, Duck ham with pickled nectarine, Baked celeriac with black bean dressing, Chocolate mousse with candied Orange and sesame brittle. My least favourite were Lacto fermented pumpkin and Brussel sprouts salad. There was very extensive wine list, including some interesting local wines by the glass. Service was helpful and flawless. Pricey but worth it. Recommended.More

This is a very special dining experience. Group of 8 friends booked for the amazing set menu. This comprised a series of bento boxes. Every dish was delicious and carefully prepared and impeccably presented.

Our weekend getaways in Beechworth have been based on being able to indulge at Provenance. We have enjoyed three dinners here and Provenance has always delivered a special night....beautifully prepared dishes, excellent wines (we stick with local wines from Giaconda and Savaterre and are highly...suggestable come dessert wine time), and exceptional service. Last time, we stayed for two nights in one of Provenance's rooms that backs onto their garden. Michael Ryan's attention to detail in his restaurant also translated to the rooms. Thoughtful and delicious food for breakfast, well decorated and extremely comfortable rooms. We found small touches that delivered the feeling of a luxurious weekend. We were also able to purchase a couple of jars of their burned miso butter to take home along with many other condiments and Michael gave us a polystyrene box to keep our goodies chilled as we meandered back to Melbourne. We will continue making trips to Beechworth just to dine at Provenance.More
