Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Have just dined at this excellent pub. The decor is simple and pleasant, and the food excellent. Don’t miss it in Beechworth. We started with the red lentil / coconut dip and a separate course of cured ocean trout. Then moved onto the lamb rump...with a middle eastern flavour and a separate salad. Everything is made in house. There were a variety of other dishes we would have loved to have tried, but there were only two of us. Dishes going to other tables looked similarly fabulous. The current owners (including the chef) bought the hotel 6 years ago. Support them. It’s a delightful find in a small town with a couple of other more up market restaurants, and this, in simpler surrounds but food to love. Service was delightful from Andy the owner and Emily behind the bar. Thank you.More

A superb experience from the moment we walked in. Food was sensational (don't bother with the $170 degustation menu around the corner), cocktails were amazing (try the Rose Hancock). Andrew on front-of-house is an informative, friendly and professional dude. If you are in Beechworth, eat...here.More

Absolutely superb dinner tonight! We are in Beechworth for one night only en route from Sydney to Melbourne and we are chuffed to bits we ended up in the Empire as the food was fantastic. 3 of us had steaks and one the duck and...I can honestly say it was the best steak I’ve had for ages. Great service, we sampled the local wine and felt throughly spoiled!More

Looks very old from outside. Which it is from goldrush era. Inside was beautiful. The staff were helpful and friendly. our waiter was Andrew and he was very knowledgeable with wine and menu suggestions. One guest was gluten intolerant but the menu was very gluten...free friendly. We all had different selections and loved the food. I had steak and it was cooked to perfection. The trout came in a gluten free option and was delicious. Good night and obviously well known as it filled up quickly, so make a booking.More

The Fattoush (salad) was divine. I could just have this on a hot summer night and be happy. Otherwise the small bar-snack style dishes are great. They are served fast so you can order more if you feel like it. It was just what we...needed after spending the day in the car and not needing a big meal. Wines by the glass are an excellent line-up. I could have had more than one William Kurt (Beechworth) Chardy but restraint was required! We were disappointed the upstairs verandah was not open to dining as it has a nice outlook on a summer evening, guess that's down to staffing. We've been here a few times over the past years and the food has always been delicious.More

Our meal here was superlative. My friend and I both ordered the Ocean trout, roast garlic skordalia, asparagus and green olives. We were not disappointed. The trout was perfectly cooked and complemented the crisp asparagus and wonderfully earthy garlic skordalia. The menu had many Gluten...Free options which made it very hard to choose but as we were hankering for the GF chocolate mousse with tangy blackberry, almond sablée and mascarpone, we reluctantly declined an entree. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, the service prompt and the food on another level. This establishment punches well above its weight. Highly recommended.More

If you ever happen to be in Beechworth I cannot recommend enough that you take the opportunity to dine at the Empire Hotel. The pub is non-descript on the corner of High St @ Camp St, but go downstairs to the restaurant & Andy the...publican will provide you with a menu & a meal you will rave about. The service is also pretty amazing. Top off the meal with a glass of the white port. Bellissimo!More

Don't be fooled by the basic pub exterior. Inside the pub has been beautifully renovated. The dining room was warm, cosy, and intimate with an open fire for winter. The menu was refined with a good selection of choices, and the staff were knowledgeable and...attentive and matched our wine with our meals. It was a fantastic experience that i can not rate highly enough for such a small town. Beechworth is lucky to have youMore

The food was delicious. Was clean. No riff raff. It was the only pub/restaurant opened on a Saturday night to have a bite. Even though the kitchen would’ve been packing up, they still made us 3 dishes. Forever grateful

The lady in the coffee shop recommended Empire hotel for dinner. And she was right! The meal was delicious, especially the signature dish - duck... Scott ,who looked after us advised that he chased the ducks this morning..(ha, ha). My Gin &Tonic was served as...in the best restaurants, he even asked which Gin I would like. Porterhouse steak was done as we asked. The restaurant was very busy as there were fewer people working but the atmosphere, the cozy table next to fireplace was a bonus. Excellent wine option. Thank you Scott!!More

We had a wonderful evening meal last night in the Restaurant. Situated close to a roaring fire, it was a perfect evening with great food @ wine. The Autumn vegetables were a knockout and hubby's Swordfish was fantastic. Great service and wine list. We'll be...back. 5 starts. Janice @ Ray.More
