Not only is this hands down one of the best pubs I've been to, the food is like something you would get at a 5 star restaurant. Shauna is an incredible chef who weaves her magic in every plate of perfection she creates - whether...it be the most basic thing as truffle fries to a mind-blowingly well cooked sirloin, this is the place to eat. Scott and Andrew are the friendliest hosts who stand by their vow to make every occasion an experience to remember. They are beyond helpful and always have something nice to say about the other restaurants in town. They are a touch of class, that's for sure. Our favourite place in town!!More

We had dinner on a Friday night at the Empire, and the choice was made in no small part because of the ratings. I am so glad we went there! Andrew our host was the epitome of friendliness and charm, and was just delightful. AND...THE FOOD! The phrase "flavours that explode in your mouth" is often over-used, but in this case it is totally accurate. The beef and kingfish entrees were incredible, with such a wonderful complexity of flavours, and then the trout and lamb mains: GOOD GRIEF: So tender, so juicy, such flavours! We selected wines to go with the meals and each one was perfect: lovely flavours that complemented each meal perfectly. We cannot wait to return to the Empire on our next trip to Beechworth, and highly recommend it as a choice for dinner.More

Plenty of recommendations lead us to the Empire Hotel for dinner. It didn’t disappoint. Great atmosphere, friendly welcoming staff and an excellent menu and wine list. Delicious and beautifully presented. Great value for money. Look forward to a return visit. Thanks Andy and crew.

If you want an intimate dinner and conversation, forget it, the restaurant is very noisy, small, crammed and dark, very average setting. The bar area is much nicer, but I understand you can only get their quite limited menu there. Food was OK, but very...small serves. For a reasonable local wine you have to fork out quite a bit of money. Service was brash and the waitress wasn’t too keen on answering questions...More

The Empire Hotel is more than just a pub. Thanks to Dan Andrews and lock down number five this would now be our last dinner in Beechworth and I guess you could say we went out with a bang. The food was sensational. We tried...the kangaroo and prawn entrees and for mains we had the duck, porterhouse, pork and ocean trout and then finished off with the yuzu doughnut. All our meals were amazing. Flavours divine , presentations perfect and portions generous. If in Beechworth dinner at the Empire Hotel is a must.More

We booked in for the restaurant meal but on arrival we’re advised that that menu was not on offer. The bar menu that was on offer only had 6 over-priced items/meals to choose from. Each of these were $16.00 and when they arrived the servings...were so small - the scallops was three slices of scallop and the chicken was 8 bite sized pieces of chicken - we ate them, paid and went and got a takeaway meal. It is very disappointing that places like this are using Covid as an excuse to deliver sub-standard menus and quantity. My husband and I also come from a country town and have made a point over the past year of visiting small towns that have had their tourist industry affected by either/both the bushfires or Covid. When we visit we eat out almost every meal, shop in the local shops and visit local attractions. We have eaten in a lot of country pubs and restaurants and this has been our most disappointing experience to date.More

The room wasn't very impressive - terrible wallpaper. The couple next to us were complaining about how long they'd had to wait for their main course. It didn't augur well. But it was worth it. We shared our entrees which consisted of a salmon ‘pastrami’...– with thin slivers of cucumber and something crunchy on the top. It was subtle and delicious. And some rare beef served with a tomato and chilli jam plus lots of coriander. Both dishes were tasty. We had separate main courses but shared a taste of each other’s. One had confit of duck with lentils, cavlolo nero, and chestnuts and I had pork belly plus walnuts plus a fennel and radish salad plus who knows what it was in the rest of the sauce. Normally not my cup of tea in terms of a meal but the combination of flavours and textures was delicious. I keep work using the word delicious. There must be another word. But basically it was a very impressive meal. And I must mention the Ginger Ninja cocktail. To die for.More

Came to Bright for the weekend, couldn’t get in to anything in Bright so booked this pub in Beechworth. Seated downstairs tonight, waitress ran the whole floor by herself and does she know her stuff. Beautiful restaurant quality food. Waitress knew the menu and the...wine list backwards. Hey....ask the waitress off the cuff what sauce accompanied the delicious greens....black garlic aioli of course. Highly recommend this food, delightful service, had a delicious local rose. Well worth the drive from BrightMore
