Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

How disappointed were we when we decided to stay at different country towns, on a Monday to turn up to find the hotel in Avoca closed . Seriously what sort of only hotel in the town supposed to be Centre if this entire area. I...will be posting on the Victorian tourists sights not to bother coming. The only place to get something to eat was the milk bar, nothing open . What a pathetic excuse for a town 😡 we try to support regional . What a jokeMore

A Birthday weekend for my wife and dined on both Friday and Saturday evening. The food is amazing and would fit into any CBD top class venues. The wine list is local and something for all palates. Ian & Ali thank you for your hospitality...And a tip the Pyrenes Motel across the road is comfortable, convenient and very well priced, Glenys will look after you we will be returning Thanks Frank & MargiMore

Horrible rude owner and service even though he knew we had a booking and my sister drove 4 hours one way to get there to take me out for my 50th birthday! We come from a family of cooks and the food was atrocious for...the price! Overdone steak and a few lettuce leaves for a salad for $50! Don't recommend at all! The photo uploaded is my lunch! A salad and a rare steak that I cooked! That is what a rare steak looks like and that is what I salad looks like which is not what we received at Avoca Hotel!More

Not sure what we are being asked to respond to here, given that your review notes you dined here in November last year, so we have absolutely no recollection of this issue. The fact that it has taken you more than 5 months to write...More

The pub catered for a large group with ease. A very interesting menu which catered for pub classics and something a bit different. Very friendly and attentive staff - a very enjoyable night.

Enjoyed the bar menu sitting out the front with our puppy in the sun. Staff were friendly & helpful and the meals were on point. Enjoyed two entrees and a main to share. There are your standard options & some clever & interesting additions Will...come back to dine in the dinning room to experience the full menu, on a winters day it looks very inviting.More

Great service and good food. Better than the usual pub grub. Thursday night was seafood specials. Thai fish cakes and bang bang cauliflower was divine. We booked and it was busy but not crowded. 😊

We've eaten here a few times, and really enjoyed every meal - and this visit was no exception. Consistently high standard of food, beautifully presented on interesting crockery, with relaxed and friendly professional service. And of course, a great local wine list!

Wild rabbit cigars, lamb pies, glorious risottos and exquisite deserts - set amidst the retro furnishings and fire places - great place to work your way through the local wines too. Excellent service.

This was our first weekend away in a very long time even though we live in regional Victoria. We chose the Avoca Hotel from their website and TripAdvisor reviews we definitely were not disappointed in the food or drinks. Service was excellent. We hadn’t booked...and we’re lucky to get a table inside in the bar area, which was really good, gives you that real pub experience. The owners here are part of the Governments two week trial in selected Regional facilities using the QRCode that shows that you have checked in and have been double vaxxed, they also have to view everyone’s ID, we thought they did a great job of this, as it’s takes a lot of their time explaining, they also had to record those that they had to turn away because they weren’t double Vaxxed. They did all this with a smile even when one couple thought that it didn’t apply to them for whatever reason.More

During a long weekend over Easter visiting the Blue Pyrenees we pre-booked this hotel for a pub meal. We chose 6:30pm to avoid the rush. We sat outside for a drink and although the tables are close to the street it was pleasant. When we...moved inside we first noticed the dining room was unusually dark. The furniture, wall coverings and curtains were all dark colours. Keeping an open mind we moved on to the menu which had a variety of dishes. We decided on the lamb shoulder and the baked pork fillet. It’s not common that my husband and I both dislike our dishes but this time that was the case. The lamb shoulder came out in a large bowl with a soup consistency. The lamb was tender but tasteless and it was lost along with the vegetables in a broth that lacked flavour. I added salt and pepper but couldn’t make it work. My husband kindly swapped with me and unfortunately the pork also lacked zest. The potato side dish was not cooked. We enjoyed our local wines but not the food. When we paid the bill I mentioned my disappointment to the manager and unfortunately he brushed me off saying I should have read the menu more closely. Needless to say we will not be returning in the future.More

The prices are reasonable, especially when you consider the quality of the local wines and the extensive range of beers.
