Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was our first time at Angelsea Pub, we’d heard it was a pretty good pub. Lots of tables indoors and outside, we didn’t have to book to get a table for 2 indoors on a Sunday night. Indoors has a large, bright, open space. Tonight there were lots of families and groups, and it wasn’t too noisey.
The service was friendly. Our food came out quickly, and the hot meals were nice and hot. I was very impressed because the kitchen had attended to all of our fussy requirements, eg no added salt, no garlic or onion, sauces on the side. We had the salt and pepper calamari (very good), porterhouse (OK), and asian salad with chicken (salad ingredients nice and fresh, OK), and a mineral water and it came to $101.

I was staying nearby for a few nights and called in on a Friday for their happy hour. It runs from 5-7pm and noticed that there were complimentary snacks provided which included samosas and party pies.
Its a quite lovely pub with a formal dining area and a sports bar.

Great update...much brighter.Usual pleasant staff.
However the chicken snitzel was the heart-shaped generic type with a less than adequate amount of mushroom gravy. No dressing on the boring salad
(There used to be)In the absence of my favourite grilled salmon I chose salt and pepper squid.Am sure it was from the freezer... very ordinary.Have been calling in for dinner for years but will bypass next time.

Today was day 6 of a three week explore of Victoria with 2 international exchange students. They have just finished school for the year and the chance to travel and experience the state was here.
With Anglesea an overnighter this time, we landed at the hotel after a very solid day of travel from Wilson’s Prom.
At every turn from the staff, the facilities and then the food please put this on your radar.
Our Italian visitors explored beef salads and other options they simply loved.
I got a steak which was exactly how I asked matched perfectly with a pepper sauce and for what it’s worth, the humble chip was properly cooked. It’s a nice change.
This place is worth the journey for a weekend or as described, just an overnighter.

We visited the Anglesea Hotel and were extremely underwhelmed by the experience. Everyone is required to wear masks, which is understandable, yet the staff member greeting guests was without one, not the best start.
We ordered a Chicken Schnitzel, which was pre-cooked, cold and dry, a Chicken Parmigiana, also dry and a Maghreb Couscous and Pumpkin Salad with added chicken. This meal was bland, underseasoned and completely lacking any flavour. The allegedly roasted pumpkin was 2 big lumps of under cooked vegetable. The extra $5 paid for chicken was a joke, there were about 5 tiny pieces. The only good thing in this dish was the pomegranate. Surely a pub should be able to cook a staple dish such as a Schnitzel or Parma?
We have been coming to Anglesea for over 20 years and were hoping for a decent meal at the pub, but unfortunately not.
Get the basics right, well-cooked, fresh food that people come to expect from a local pub!!

Staff were great but the food was very ordinary. Flathead tails were tiny. Hardly any fish inside the batter. The spaghetti bolognaise was dry and all I could taste was mixed herbs. The kids playroom was very cold and everytime a child opened the door , there was a blast of cold air.

Dropped in on a Saturday around lunchtime with a group of around 11, got a great spot on the deck and had some lunch and a few drinks through the arvo. Food was great, fun atmosphere, views across the area, with great service from the team. Highly recommended and we need to support these local business's.

Food was excellent. Asian salad it’s halo uni and calamari, Parma (big) Aussie burger, and service prompt. Very good value. Eat in the public bar as it’s much quieter (better soundproofing) and larger tables than the bistro. Best meal we’ve had in Anglesea this summer

Overpriced.
We ordered flat head tails and a burger. $27.90 each. Burger meat was of marginal quality and over cooked. Flathead tails mostly batter. Both came with a meagre serving of fries.
Suggest trying the bistro at the Anglesea golf course.

The Anglesea Pub has been here forever. Undergoing a recent renovation the layout of the restaurant is fresh, open and appealing. The wait staff are polite and efficient. I should premise this review with the rest of the party I was with enjoyed their meal. Nothing to rave about but not too bad.
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy mine. I ordered the double cooked pork belly on Asian greens. The dish consisted of two large pieces of pork belly that was full of either fat or soft crackling (no pork). The Asian greens was a single undercooked pak choy and beans doused in butter (who does that on Asian food??!!). The bowl sat on a bed of white rice that was advertised as dark Asian broth. It was soy sauce, that’s all it was and it was so rich that it felt like I was drinking salt. I should have known when I looked for restaurant reviews and it was 2.7/5. The hotel advertised on Facebook they were looking for a new head chef, they really need to keep looking.
Turn around and go back to Torquay or if you enjoy a drive head down to Lorne. Save your tastebuds and don’t stop.

Large family attended. Food delivered without cutlery and kids not welcomed at all. Not family friendly, staff were extremely unwelcoming. Grumpy and not friendly at all. Not good enough.

Great food. Good choice of beers and wine. Friendly staff. Only drawback was the noise level as so many families were there with kids being school holidays. Strongly recommend going midweek to avoid the crush and noise!!!

They have really improved this pub's look and feel. The menu is full of great pub grub and the specials are very much pub fare. I would definitely go again.
