Service good. Food poor. Over-salty starter, my main was like a boarding school jumble of bits. My partner’s fish ordinary and oily. Over-priced and underwhelming. Don’t bother.

Disappointing night at Bistro Moncur. The service was too quick and mostly perfunctory. When you order a Bellini you get a glass at least 80% full, not here, perhaps just over half full. The French onion soufflé was superb and my wife enjoyed her steak....My pork cutlet is on the menu as coming with a jus and crackling. The ‘jus’ was a rather stodgy cream sauce and the crackling not pork crackling at all but rather a pork cracker resembling, in taste and texture, a cracker you often get a bag of for free at a Chinese restaurant. I did not feel well the next day. There is an over-abundance of potato. My mash was very good but so much of it, perhaps trying hard to disguise the fact that the cutlet was probably less than 150g of actual meat. I looked across at the plate of another dinner and saw a pile of mash potato that would have filled the stomachs of two to three people by itself. The chips were served with the same abundance. We have been 4/5 times now but this was the last.More
We were extremely impressed with everything on our recent visit to Bistro Moncur in June. The food was excellent, and service from our blond haired waiter was really good. I wasn't sure what to expect due to the mixed reviews but our table were all...extremely impressed. Only a couple of small complaints; While we were still eating, some plates were being cleared from the table by one of the waitresses. It is normal etiquette they should wait till the whole table finishes eating before clearing empty plates. By clearing plates away, it makes others at the table that might be slower eaters embarrassed, as they are the only ones with plates in front of them, they then feel they have to rush to finish their meals. The style of chairs were not very comfortable, it would be nicer to be able to be more comfortable. I guess there is not a lot of room for comfortable chairs. This is the reason I rated the atmosphere less. We have over the years spent a lot of time dining at Bistro Moncur, and we were very impressed with everything again this time. We will definitely be back, as it was one of the best meals we have had for a long time. There were 6 of us, and everyone’s different meals were excellent. The fish special was fantastic, souffle, both the twice cooked one and the dessert one were exceptional. Definately a must have. So definately a must go to restaurant, it is really good to see the signature meals still on the menu.More
Was expecting more of this restaurant - nothing stood out as wonderful. The salmon confit was fine not fabulous and the omelette was bland and very over priced. Service was average.
Have been coming here for 30 years and it is still great. Not cheap, but then it IS Woollahra! Never disappoints.
Very slow and poor service. Food was very bland and the barramundi dry and dish extremely bland. Steak tartare had no flavour and was on the very small side. Place was busy and seemed very under staffed. Waited an hour to have orders taken. Really...slow getting wine orders. Bill not corrected when I pointed out additional drinks on it that were not ordered and finally given cash for error. After going to the restaurant for the last 30 years this was by far the worst experience in that time. Also some old favourites never appear any more like the seafood bisque and are missed. Bland and painful.More
Situated next door to the Woollahra Hotel, this is a fabulous French restaurant that has been here for 3 decades. The staff were helpful and friendly. The decor is lush. Food highlights were the spatchcock and the chicken liver pate. The servings were generous and...worth the high price.More
Recommended by Australians we met on the beach. We had an Excellent Gourmet Lunch in Sydney! The whole staff was very friendly, caring and wanted to make sure our dining experience was excellent. My wife had the French onion souffle which was Outstanding and Impressive...over...10+ rating! I had the pork pistachio which most man would love all the meat as I did! The Minute Steak was highly-recommended for us red meat diners and it was Excellent! Riley, our server, and Penelope (our dessert server, supervisor and cashier) and the guy seating host were very friendly, talkative and attentive as making sure the customers were treated well and water glasses kept full. This was our Best Fine-Dining Restaurant in Sydney! As US Senior Citizens, we plan to get back to Australia more and this Bistro Moncur will Always be on our Must Dine Here List!More
We love this restaurant as you know you will get excellent service with a wonderful chose of delicious meals, a very good wine list and always an extremely enjoyable dinner out. Thank you.
First time back to Bistro Moncur in a few years but absolutely delighted to say that if anything Moncur has only got better! Service while not overbearing was very attentive and friendly. Food was absolutely amazing and the menu was diverse without being to clever....The wine list was comprehensive and quite fairly priced. On a cold, wet and miserable Tuesday evening Moncur was nearly full which is hardly surprising given that I rate the experience a 9/10…More
There isn't anything special about this place. The food was fine, but you can get pan fried fish anywhere. Steak was average, duck was better. The staff need to smile more and also learn not to remove dishes from the table until everyone has finished...eating. For the price you pay for a main course ($50), the staff need to lift their game.More
Old school bistro in the heart of Woollahra. Impeccable service, both the duck and the steak were cooked to order. Faultless evening
This was my first post lockdown restaurant meal and the venue, food, wine and service were all top notch. I especially loved the passion fruit soufflé and reserve wine selection ( including done amazing French wines) by the glass. I will be returning very soon.
The chef, Mark Williamson and team shared with us quality selection of specials, some of freshest catch of day. Macrons and candles available to celebrate. Thank you Bistro Moncur, with no reservation policy, be sure to arrive on time.
Thank you for leaving us a review! We're very glad that you had a lovely 50th birthday celebration with us. We'll surely make sure to pass this along to Chef Mark! We hope to see you again and to celebrate more important milestones with you!
My wife and I ate here last night and had the Chicken liver pate to share for an entree. This was outstanding in both presentation and flavor. The customer service was also excellent and fairly efficient, especially given it was a full house. I had...the Fillet Steak with a bearnaise sauce, this was served with a side of fries and salad. The steak was tender. the menu did not mention that the steak came with a salad on the plate as well, which made the additional side salad I ordered a waste of money. I wish the waiter had told me when ordering. Nevertheless, it was a delicious steak. My wife had the Duck. The presentation was on point but there is no denying the duck was tough. You wrestled hard to cut through it with a steak knife. in fact, I had to cut it for my wife. Flavour was still good though. Overall it was a very good meal, and I would return again and recommend this restaurant to friends.More
