Coffee at Fred’s this morning and full of locals enjoying great food. Clean and beautifully presented. Food large and looks scrumptious. Hard to choose. Small but fabulous. Great staff and good service.

We had the tasting menu and enjoyed a superb evening in terms of food, drink, service and company. We need one in London! Went down for a post dinner cocktail to the basement bar - also atmospheric and great service.
This little gem of a restaurant is just fabulous! The food was superb and our taste buds were treated to some of the best food we’ve ever eaten! Really, it’s that good. “Good” being a rather pedestrian way to describe this experience of stylish, fresh...and tasty dishes served in a gorgeous space with open kitchen. Service was a bit stiff at first but they warmed to us and in the end we couldn’t fault their knowledge and attentiveness. Everything from the way they seated us, took our coats, served our food and drinks was faultless. Run don’t walk!!!! We’ve booked again!!More
After several previous visits, we had a less than satisfactory evening. The sommelier was unfamiliar with the menu and unable to offer suggestions for suitable wines. Information on allergies was asked for but not followed in the dishes served. Friendly wait staff let down by...very slow production of entrees and mains. Not up to Merivale normally high standard.More
First time at this restaurant. Initial impression was it was a very upper class fine dining establishment with beautiful atmosphere & decor. Loved how cooking was done in middle of restaurant-with clearly fresh produce & meats. Staff in mostly white uniforms were well presented, polite,...friendly & efficient! Decor & staff couldn’t be faulted. To start w had a few of the snacks which were delicious. Mains of lamb on a bed of kale or silverbeet (not sure), that was quite fatty & served rare. I would have expected to be asked how I wanted it cooked-rare would not have been my choice. Main of fish was quite bland. No wow factor in either of mains. For price of nearly $400 & the beautiful decor that greeted us- I had high expectations that were not met by food served.More
This is a good restaurant. I’m a hard marker. The food was very good, as were the wines. Beer selection doesn’t have anything for a true beer fan though. Need at least one mainstream offering and ideally something off the tap. Staff were friendly and...helpful and notably were reasonably fluent in my native tongue which I am noticing is increasingly rare in Sydney. Whatever happened to English? They lose me with the “still or sparkling” routine; an inept idea that some deluded TAFE teacher came up with thirty years ago to sound clever. However it doesn’t make more money for the restaurant and is a ghastly virus in the industry. Just say “what would you like to drink?” We went with the flow and sat there for near thirty minutes before we were served with something we wanted to drink. I can get water at home. Nice place though.More
One of the best places I have been in a long time. Quality of produce, service, ambience, all great. The beef was simply outstanding.
This place is fantastic. Great front of house bar. Excellent restaurant with food prepared on rustic kitchens benches before your very eyes. Food is a little pricey but quality. Downstairs is a late night treat.
We booked a Valentines dinner (which we rarely do) and we were looking forward to going out post a long period of COVID lockdowns. We have eaten here previously and the food always delicious. I can’t fault the table service on the night the staff...polite and helpful. It was a set menu and we had a lovely evening. Approximately 2 hours after returning home I had the worse vomiting I’ve had in years. Definitely food poisoning. My husband had the same meal and he was fine. I can only put it down to a bad slice of something. I was so unwell I could not go to work the next day. I contacted the restaurant and someone from the Merivale group assured me the restaurant would contact me. To date I have not been contacted. Btw I also took into account whether I might have been upset by what I had for lunch however I had the same lunch two days later and was fine. Extremely disappointed with this restaurant and the follow up service. I won’t be eating there again. I’m sure you can imagine the cost of the meal. So in summary down a nice evening out with my hubby, down a meal, down a days work. Date of visit: February 2022More
Fantastic farm to table restaurant. Wonderful mains cooked in their deep ovens. Tam was a fantastic Maitre D.
A superb atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re in your own kitchen. Hemmes-esque service - brilliant as expected. Food solid, but a few slight misses. True reflection of Paddington dining.
I appreciate the post COVID difficulties for restaurants and I admit to being a bit sceptical of the 'farm to table' idea as novel (as it certainly was when I lived in Berkeley 40 years ago). The kitchen action was fun to watch and the...food generally and our waiter all very good except for a few slip-ups like too much black on the Fougasse, a missing oyster and a couple of unpolished deliveries. I just expect professional casual service to be a bit ..well more professional when you are paying $15 for one 'poached prawn' mid $20's for the cheapest red by glass. Also the wearing of masks by several staff was very mixed.More
The space is terrific, the service was OK, the food overpriced and not particularly exceptional, and there was plenty of attitude, the kind you don't want when you are the one paying. We expected to pay top dollar, but we also excected fair value -...we got the right bill, but not the value. I enjoyed the funky space, and exposed kitchen. The mood lighting and comfort of seating was very good - but when one of our oysters was so small that it looked like an empty shell, we politely asked for this to be replaced (we were paying top dollar for each oyster) - it was indeed replaced...technically correct, but not generous and not even the slightest hint of an apology. Our side of vegetables was highly priced and near tasteless (perhaps this was intentional but again, it was no different that a few veges steamed in water at home). The dessert was excellent. The coffee, banged down on the table on my left side showed poor professionalism. I would have given two stars but unlike Fred's, I'd like to be generous and give three.More
We were so lucky and got seated at one of two areas where we could watch all the kitchen working as we ate. Amazing, enthralling, a fabulous add to our eating experience. On top of that, our waiter was delightful and the food was extraordinary....Our John Dory was the best fish I’ve ever had in a restaurant made all the better because we’d watched the process of cooking it and chatted to the lady in charge of that section. We will definitely be back.More
Love Freds. Amazing cocktails, wonderful food from the bread to the entrees which are so perfectly balanced, we had the fregola with seafood and the tuna tartare to mains that melt in your mouth. The wine list is a bit pricey but something for all...and great advice from the Som. The apple sorbet as a palate cleanser was wonderful and the choclate tart that was a surprise and delight in your mouth... The service from the team was great. Thanks Freds!More
