My wife and me drove from Chattanooga to Monteagle TN to celebrate our 50th anniversary. It was well worth the drive. The restaurant is in a 1929 mansion with original hardwood flooring and authentic light fixtures, said to be financed by Al Capone, was put...More

The history of High Point is unbelievable. This was the former home of Al Capone. If you look closely at the rock walls inside you will be able to see bullet holes. There is plenty of outside seating and a wonderful breeze blowing on top...More

The first thing I'll say about High Point is what a cool house. The whole Al Capone legacy. Just amazing. The second is the food. This is high end food but at a price that is more mid-range. The third is how amazingly huge the...More

Steaks were over cooked, sent them back. My black and blue steak had a good 1/2 lb of peppercorns on top. Head hostess very rude. New to the area but will not go back. My belly is still burning from the heavy handed peppercorn.More

It's over an hour drive for each of us to meet in Monteagle for dinner but this is the place we have been going for years. Tonight was not the best experience though. We had terribly slow service and the entrees were cold when they...More

Enjoyed dinner in this former hang-out of Al Capone's. Great pecan-crusted trout with a variety of heirloom potatoes. My husband had "black-and-bruised" NY strip steak with peppercorns and blue cheese butter. Had grilled pound cake for dessert. We'd originally intended to eat at Pearl's Foggy...More

We enjoyed our dinner at High Point. Food was very good. Atmosphere was kind of dull. We had hoped to learn a little about the history of the building but servers did not offer any insights into the historical aspects of the place.

There didn't seem to be an official dress code. We were dressed fairly formal, others were business casual.

Hi there. I'm not certain. But it is a very reputable place. If you call, I'm sure that would clear it up.

Description
Built inside a 1929 mansion that presumably once was financed by Al Capone, the restaurant serves a menu of traditional gourmet dishes including Brie en Croute, Blackened Salmon Oscar and Black Thai Duck. The mansion that houses the restaurant was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 and still features the original escape hatches and underground tunnels that were used by Capone to transfer liquor during the Prohibition Era. In 2001, High Point received the "Best Gourmet Meal in Tennessee" award from "Tennessee" magazine.
