Don’t understand why the is a negative review on here - as we found the whole experience here a really good one everyone left really satisfied. We were a table of 12 and when our friends parents made an impromptu visit we found the team to be very accommodating. The manager even went to the cafe opposite to borrow an extra chair, which was very sweet. The paella order went in quick as yes it does take about 40 - 50 mins to make, from fresh however there were a mass of generous starters that came out quickly to keep us going. Then 46 mins from sitting down...it was paella heaven....well worth the wait. We had paella in Spain last year and this event was a holiday reunion and we were amazed it tasted virtually the same. My only criticism is that one table group were were really noisy but after they left it was nice. This is a good quality, warm, soulful and sexy place that we all loved. Glad I chose it cause my friends are very fussy.

A very personal experience. Spoke to a few of the staff throughout the night, all friendly and attended to our every need. The food was to die for and the espresso cocktail, probably the best I've ever had!The calamari was perfectly cooked and the 6hr slow roast pork was melt-in-your-mouth level, only minor snaffu was with the rice pudding which unfortunately had dairy in it (partially our fault for not asking), but these pros were more than happy to make allowances for us. Special shout out to Samuel (who was only on his second shift), who made us feel welcome and ensured we got everything we needed. As well as Lin (Lynn?), who was the manager with the banter and bubbly personality you look for in waitstaff. I might be from out of town, but I would definitely recommend and will be back. Thank you guys and gals so much for making date night an evening to remember ❤

We came here for dinner before a show and were consistently impressed as soon as we passed through the front door. They have a very extensive wine list with many amazing examples of what Spain has to offer, with a useful description and flavour guide for each wine that made matching wine to what we intended to order a breeze. Granted it was a quiet Monday, but the speed and attentiveness of the service still impressed us. The only time our glasses were empty was when we ran out of wine, and when we finished our meal and laid back in bliss, less than ten seconds passed before a waiter was there offering to take the plates away. The braised lamb is art on a plate. It wobbled on the plate as I cut off my portion and was incredibly tender and cooked to perfection. The accompaniments also suited it perfectly. I cannot recommend the mushroom millefeuille enough. A must try! Deserts were delicious and sophisticated. A perfect ending for an incredible meal. The only bad thing I have to say about our experience is that the table wobbled a bit. Otherwise, an incredible night, and we'll certainly be back soon!!

Very nice food indeed with great selection. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive to just the right level and provided good advice on selections, especially as 5 is an awkward number for tapas (6 dishes worked) and paella (4 person size). Good wine list. Atmosphere was good, but social distancing arrangements seemed to be stretching the guidelines. Would definitely return and recommend. Thanks

The service was very poor having to continuously ask the waiter for drinks and water. We were seated outside as we requested, however we were not offered cushions for the timber seats, so sitting was very uncomfortable. We ordered the mixed seafood Paella, which was served overdone and dry. The garlic prawns which is a Spanish favourite was lacking in garlic, prawns and oil. overall we were left disappointed and will not return. I also sent a message directly to the restaurant and I am still waiting for a response.

Our small group of 7 attended for a tapas dinner, cheese and dessert with wine and sherry. Everyone walked away extremely happy, full and amazed at the freshness of the food and how filling it was. Our group was to be 20, but the staff were more than happy to accomodate our covid affected reduction. The service was attentive but not checking up on us every minute, the food came out quickly and the stand out dish was the muscles, they were a good size, cooked just right, tasted super fresh and there was just enough to taste and want some more. The wine selection was vast, but very affordable and having the perfect amount of tannins for a meal. All in all, I'll be back again, and again and again. I had recently been in March this year for Paella and was amazed at how perfectly it was cooked. I'm no Spanish food savant, but have been to Spain and can call Alegrias the best Spanish restaurant in Sydney. Definitely a place to bring your family and friends.

We book a table for 6 people outside on a Saturday night, the place got full some time later after we arrived. The waiting staff is good and courteous, and they are mostly South American students or migrants. None was a Spaniard. The food was average as we do not think they have a Spanish cook or Chef in the kitchen. Patatas Bravas dish was not that good as it did not have the brava sauce just aioli, the Gambas al Ajillo came with the prawns unpeeled (something that is not the case in Spain) and it was not cooked in the metal pot, the empanadas were deep-fried and due to that the flavour of the fillings is lost and get oily (besides the were too small). The Red Sangria was a bit too sweet with little fruit and just apple, no pineapple, orange, peach) Price overall a bit too expensive but that goes with the location... Parking is an issue so be prepared to walk a bit. If you have been to Spain in the past or ate real Spanish tapas before visiting this place you may find yourself a bit disappointed. Great location though...

Visited 26/06/2020, and was met with great service right at the door. Very welcoming and nice atmosphere. Our waiter Alexis (not sure how to spell his name) made the visit a fantastic experience with great food suggestions and expert wine recommendations. Our food was all very delicious (try the slow cooked lamb!), our wine was perfect and Alexis added to the experience with his fantastic personality. We wish you all the best for your trip back home! This was our first visit to Alegrias, and despite it being a bit of a hike to get to, we would like to go back.

The worst paella I've ever had. We travel frequently to Spain and love paella, but this one bore no resemblance to those we had in Spain. Its was oily and salty with no flavour of any other ingredient. When I asked the waitress if there was calamari in the dish, because we couldn't taste any, she pointed to a tiny cube of it hidden beneath the brown rice. Maybe other dishes at this restaurant are OK, but the paella we had was truly awful. We won't be back.

Our group of four enjoyed a wonderful meal at Alegrias Spanish Tapas. We shared three plates of tapas and one mixed paella (30% off on a Thursday night!). We also had delicious desserts and GREAT coffee. Absolutely everything was delicious – wonderfully favoured, beautifully presented, and served efficiently and by friendly and professional staff. Spanish food is my favourite but, outside of Spain, I am often disappointed. Dinner at Alegrias was like being in Barcelona again. I noticed that the kitchen staff spoke Spanish and two of the tables around us were filled with Spaniards (I took this also to be a very good sign). A great night out and I can’t wait to go back!

I have travelled around Spain many times and experienced fabulous food. I have been to Spanish style eateries and enjoyed Spanish food in Australia. Alegrias unfortunately was expensive and the was Spanish in name only $350 for 4 people you'd expect the best. The Paella was the biggest disappointment and this was after being assured of its quality. $60 for 3 bits of packet seafood on soft boiled rice....so much for a great birthday celebration.

Hi. Our head chef owned his own paella restaurant in Madrid before he moved to Australia. We also worked with michelin starred chefs in developing our paellas to make them as high end and authentic as possible. We dont make the cheap roadside paellas you would have experienced visiting Las Ramblas on your trips to Spain. We ven import the rice we use from Spain ourselves directly (which costs as much as sirloin steak per kilo) as most other restaurants just use cheaper and more easily available risotto rice which created the wrong texture and flavour. No other restaurant in Sydney makes paella the proper traditional way using pans that are 3 times the size from scratch (so that the ingredients can be properly and cleanly presented, and the rice is more spread out to generate more flavour. This is confusing for some of our non Spanish guests as it is too expensive and time consuming to do this (each paella spends 30 minutes on its own burner), as we don't make big paella batches and then re-plate them in tiny paella dishes as other restaurants do. Also we don't use packet seafood, we are about 1km away from Sydney fish markets and we are usually that busy we have to reorder and redo our prep multiple times a week as we don't have the cold storage space to store such ingredients for any length. This also adds to our costs, but we definitely want to use the absolutely freshest ingredients. We are working with a group of Spanish chefs here and in Spain to better educate our guests on how this did is supposed to be made and why we do it the way we do. If you check out the Instagram ricepaella, you can see the similarities of one of the best paella chefs in the world and how our paellas look. Tourist trap paella, while nice, is completely different. We hope to start hosting paella cooking demonstrations and lessons as covid restrictions ease to better educate the people of Sydney on what a real paella is supposed to be. We've even spoken to the Spanish Ambassador to Australia over this and she agreed that we do it how it is done properly in Spain. We hope to be able to communicate to our non Spanish guests the history of this nationally important dish better in the future.

Absolutely LOVE ❤️ this place! The service is always exceptional and the food is beautifully prepared, reasonably priced and delicious. The sangria is a must and compliments the paella dishes. This place never disappoints but you must make a booking especially on weekends.

We have been to Allegrias several times and have NEVER been disappointed with the quality of food or drinks provided. The prices of the paella are not cheap but you don’t mind when the quality is exceptional. My family are a mixture of Italian and English cultures who traveled from Melbourne for the weekend. (Hard to impress!) They were very happy with both the service and outstanding food provided on the night. A personal highlight for me on the drinks menu is always their sangria!!!

The recent write up on Alegrias by AGFG was spot on. I decided to have Mum's 70th birthday lunch there with just under 30 family and friends for lunch. We were exceptionally well fed, with some leftovers, the wine was spectacular and the service was friendly and faultless. Having had experience regularly dining out at least once a month for three courses with matching wines around Sydney and Melbourne, I was relieved that my booking wasn't limited to 90 or 120 minutes. Moreover, my very picky mum was more than happy with the Paella. Suffice to say that everyone who attended was enormously complimentary of the location, the service, food and wine. I can't wait to go back again. Their group menu is also remarkably well priced. Thanks to the Team at Alegrias.

Spanish restaurants are sadly lacking in this part of Sydney so we were glad that this has opened up just up the road from us. The space with the vaulted ceilings is impressive. There is outside seating as well. The service was very attentive. Our servers seemed to all have Spanish connections. The menu is very interesting & they have the largest selection of paellas anywhere I have seen in Sydney. We started with the grilled calamari, which was so tender, & the prawns which were in a coconut & lime sauce (delicious but not a Spanish taste). We chose the Balmain bug paella - the rice was perfect. We chose a Tempranello which was smooth. At one point Spanish dancing was performed which was just enough to be appreciated. They did a very good job. It was not a cheap night out but we felt we got value for our money.
