Our last visit to this cafe was very disappointing and will be my last visit . A Sunday afternoon went in for coffee and cake. The service was appalling, slow and they got a very simple order wrong. When I said to the manger " you need to improve the service in this cafe" Her response was " We are... More

I was pleasantly surprised that this restaurant had a gluten free menu. The manager was very friendly and was able to accommodate my gluten free request but also, my carb free and sugar free dietary requirement which was great. I had the veal shank which was very nice and it was a generous portion. My partner had a schnitzel and... More

Always quite crowded with Eastern European eastern suburbs residents. Nice home cooked meals and I love the Gundel pancakes. Probably a good idea to book as it can get quite crowded.

With a Hungarian background I know what the dishes should taste like and they are outstanding, tasty and authentic. Two sizes are offered which is a great idea because large is very large.I miss my Mum's cooking and this is a great place to get my fix. Definitely come and experience Hungarian cuisine, so much better than in Budapest!!!

I have been there two times and both I found hair in food. Too expensive for that. Actually they probably have to change their menu, because food is so-so.

Pleasant ambience, plain decor with warm lighting, about 14 tables. Very popular with locals. The food is European/Hungarian and has a home-made touch, good size servings, sometimes too salty. Excellent service - the owner greets you and seats you - she or a waitress will serve you. The Grundel pancakes are fabulous.

First up, don't be put off by the ambience. This place looks like a lunch cafe for office workers. The food however is quintessentially Hungarian and probably better than other more traditional Hungarian restaurants in Sydney, many of which are also extremely good themselves. My Hungarian friends swear by it, and I understand why. If you like Central European food,... More

Food at Gundel is definitely not for the diet conscious. It is serious comfort food with items such as Matzo Ball Soup with large Matzo Balls, Vienna Schnitzel, creamed Spinach, Veal Shanks to name a few of the delicacies we devoured. Then of course there is the Pancakes and other Hungarian Coronary desserts. It is delicious but you should then... More
