What a lovely restaurant. A comfortable dining room with a very nice ambiance. Attentive and exceptionally well-informed service. Outstanding cooking, with a fishy focus. Very professional and clearly run by people who care deeply about what they are doing.

We had an amazing romantic dinner at The Herring and the food and service were both top notch. The oysters with caviar were spectacular along with the Duck Tacos as starter plates. Our main course was the fried snapper - which was the highlight of...our dinner. Highly recommend The Herring!More

The seafood platter at Herring Room in Manly is a true seafood lover's delight. With a mix of whole baby snapper, oysters, calamari, prawns and octopus, it's a delicious assortment. The baby snapper was delicious and crunchy , the calamari and octopus were tender, and...prawns beautifully marinated and nothing surpasses Sydney Rock oysters. Totally different from the usual fried and battered selections that are commonly served on seafood platters. If you're in Manly and craving a mix of ocean flavors, Herring Room is a must visit – great seafood, pleasant atmosphere, and unpretentious friendly service. We were treated like family.More

Wow! We had the degustation option, with wines. What a great great experience, and the staff were really friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. This is now our favourite ‘let’s celebrate’ restaurant venue.

Where to begin? Walked in and met by Tiana. I had left a note in my booking as it was an engagement dinner (I had proposed a few days prior) and Tiana was just 10/10 the whole evening. The service was spectacular. The food was...incredibly delicious. The kingfish ceviche was sublime - so fresh and light. The king prawns with a side of bread twisted roll was spot on. There is nothing to fault about this place. We even were lucky enough to be treated to a few extra dishes for the new menu. Again all because of Tiana! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening and when I come back to manly, I have got to come here again.More

My husband and I went here for our 1st anniversary and our 5th anniversary. We’ve also given family and friends vouchers for this restaurant so they can experience it. The food is amazing, the wine is delicious and the service is fabulous. We 100% will...be returning! We got the seafood platter for two both times and loved it! My husband and I always walk out of there full and laughing.More

Had the most fabulous night celebrating my husband’s 50th at The Herring Room Manly. While the food was truly exceptional it was the staff and service that really impressed us. From the moment we enquired about booking our celebration the owner and her staff were...so helpful and accommodating. We were a large group and they couldn’t have been more welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble and they really made an effort to ensure we had a memorable night. It’s been a long time since we’ve felt sincerely valued as customers in a high end restaurant. Highly recommend, we will definitely be back!More

A very nice evening with 5 Italian courses. Standout was the seafood soup (delicious well developed flavours and generous portions of seafood) but a great let down was the dessert (dough balls which were gluggy and inedible) . The other courses were enjoyable, if not...memorable. The staff were efficient and pleasant and the restaurant environment felt subdued and stylish - perfect for a date night.More

Was a great evening with friends for a Japanese themed degustation which when our friends asked if we wanted to go we were there with bells on!The staff as normal were the same friendly and helpful crew per our previous visits ! From the miso...soup through to the black sesame ice cream with Japanese donut.. all the food was well presented and excellent! Good choice to make was the matched wines which stopped having to decide what wine ! The only surprise and disappointment to the evening is that the sirloin wasn’t served with a steak knife but just a normal dinner knife. Which depending on the piece you’d received it didn’t quite cut it but with subtle comments the staff where they thought needed bought a steak knife over for my wife but not all.. mine was also far to grisly and chewy but it was cooked perfectly. Degustation are extremely difficult to manage and the above will not stop us from going back for alacarte or another degustation.More

Four of us dined here for lunch. We were offered a courtyard table but chose inside instead as it was a little bit too sunny outside. Good selection of different seafood dishes on the menu plus a couple of non seafood dishes to keep everyone...happy. We had between us the kingfish tataki, the pan seared scallops, the crispy fried calamari, the baked rainbow trout fillets with cauliflower, the koshihikari risotto with sauteed prawns and the whole snapper with red curry, The snapper was placed upright on the plate as if it was going to swim away. We matched these dishes with some fries and a mixed leave salad. Overall everyone enjoyed their dishes though some more than others. The scallops and rainbow trout fillets were very good. Wine list covered most grape varieties as different price points. We had a couple of bottles of Corduroy chardonnay at $72 per bottle. The Maitre'd was absolutely delightful and between her and her husband, who was our waiter, they couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome.More

First time in the Herring Room. We were given a lovely courtyard table and good service. The four us decided to share 2 entrees and 3 mains and were happy with all our selections. The Calamari was probably the most ordinary . The Octopus was...better received. The beetroot tartin with honey & cheese was a punt but proved delicious. The Cod in Sri Lankan sauce and the Squid ink spaghetti with balmain bugs got the strongest accolades. Will be back.More
