Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I had a lovely meal here whilst staying at the Q Station. The food was excellent with the Berkshire pork chop being a stand-out dish. The service was efficient and timely (even though they were actively training new staff). The food was...at a standard above that expected. We climbed the funicular stairs after so we cannot comment on the shuttle service but at least this allowed us to partly 'work-off' our desert so this was a bonus.More

I ate here 18 months ago & it was just lovely, a new chef and advertised as "best restaurant in Manly" had us looking forward to dining, unfortunately this time we were disappointed. We were told they were almost booked out but they were not....We chose the two course set menu, we understood 2 or 3 courses offered. The entree Ocean Trout Crudo was nice enough but no wow factor. Mains, husband ordered Grainge Angus beef Tenderloin med rare was very chewy & not very warm but the oyster mushroom it rested on was cooked perfectly, my meal fish of the day, one piece overcooked, the other just right, wines they offer were wonderful. For a $175 meal we were not full or convinced of their advertising claim & cancelled our family booking for the next evening. Maybe we were there on a bad night, perhaps we should have sent the steak back? Hoping others have a better experience. Staff seemed hurried.More

Unlike the other reviews I think that my experience was that the service was OK but the food was less than OK. The setting however made up for that and we opted for the bus rather than tackle the stairs.

The Boilerhouse is presenting itself as a fine dining experience. The food meets that standard, and the drinks meet the standard, but the service falls well short. There was no host to greet us and show us to our table, and we ordered the premium...wine pairings, and they did not come at the same time as the food, and the wait staff did not know what the wines were and why they were selected as the pairing for the meals. If they fix the service this place could be great.More

We were booked for dinner at the boiler house for 10 people for 6pm. When making our booking, I added a comment that we had a tour at 8pm. When we arrived I reminded them and they said they were aware of my comment. We...were offered a 2 or 3 course set menu. We picked the 2 courses as we were concerned we would be rushed if we had the 3 courses. The main courses were delicious - however the timing and service was lacking. The mains came out staggered where half the table were finished and others still had not received their mains. The side dishes come out when most of us at finished. Dessert was served to 3 people and after 25 mins we followed up where was everyone elses and reminded them we had to leave for the tour at 8. We followed up a further 3 times before we were told the chef didnt read our ticket properly and it was missed. We were promised the dessert was coming. When i asked the waitress to tell the tour operator (who meets outside the restaurant and is connected to the restaurant) i was assured they would let them know we would be 10 mins late. Dessert was barely eaten as we had to rush, and the staff did not tell the tour operator which was very poor that they lied to us. The poor timing of the meals and the poor service let them down as the food was very good. Would not recommendMore

A wonderful location with great food and service. An excellent evening let down at the end by having to wait an excessively long time for the shuttle bus to take us back up to our cars. Despite being told numerous times when we checked at...the restaurant it was 'on its way' we stood outside in the dark for over 45 minutes waiting. When it finally arrived there were so many people waiting a group of 7 couldn't fit in and had to wait even longer. Having one driver on on a busy Friday evening - who we discovered also had to check in and transport new patrons staying in the accommodation - is pretty poor. Sadly, it would make me very hesitant to recommend the location or visit again.More

Delicious food, friendly and energetic waiters, historic building and a manager who checks in on every customer and even runs to refill water glasses— a great restaurant! I had the orecchiette with prawns and chili and the market fish. I tasted my husband’s salad with...a tasty citrus vinaigrette and his pork chops— I’d go back to have either selections! What a great use for these old buildings— I hadn’t been back to the Quarantine Station since school trips for my kids many years ago—nicely refitted! When you book you can book the shuttle, but we took the bus to the quarantine station right outside the Manly Ferry exit and walked down. A great evening!More

First time eating here and was impressed . Had 2 course menu with oyster starters . The 2 course menu at $75 a head was great value for a fine dining experience . Staff were attentive and responsive . The location on the waterfront is...sensational although based in a heritage building they are not fully able to capitalize on the view when seated in the restaurant but makes for a great pre/post dinner walk .More

We stayed at Q Station so a short walk from accommodation but not far from centre of Manly PROS: simple yet elegant restaurant design & setting reflecting the industrial history of this heritage building; warm/friendly staff - particularly Sally - who was very professional as...well; delicious + well presented food…mains were generous eg my snapper dish. CONS: Very soft lighting…perfect with candles in most spaces but too dark in our corner of the space where another light is needed (consequently no food photos taken as had trouble seeing plates ourselves…& we have no sight issues!); not sure if there’s a lift for people with a disability?…I have sciatica issues that come/go but managed the steep stairs as fortunately a “good” night for me; perhaps hand sanitiser station needed at top of stairs due to so many gripping the bannister? I had a view of comings/goings of diners & staff. TO SUM UP: Expect top end dining prices…but, putting aside the relatively minor “Cons”… a delightful experience. Perhaps there’s a space closer to kitchen (downstairs) for those with a disability? I’d like to return with an elderly relative. Thanks to all the staff particularly the chef & Sally of course! Best wishes!More

The menu accommodated the tastes of our party of 4. The serving sizes for entrees and mains were generous and the food delicious, nothing was left on anyone’s plate. Entree risotto with truffle 4/5. I had the Pork main, which was the best pork I’ve...ever had, very tasty. 5/5 Others had fish and beef with very similar positive reports. Desserts were also very nice. 3 course menu for $90 was reasonable. Wine was also reasonably priced for this class of restaurant. It was a quiet night with only a dozen or so diners, so maybe that helped the staff who were very attentive and pleasant. The building is very nicely presented with a pleasant ambiance.More

What a wonderful evening. Able to get an early booking (hint if stopping there book when you secure accommodation), and the service was impeccable. It was made clear we needed to leave at a certain time and the service was attentive and not pushy. Food...was amazing, kingfish entree brilliant, snapper cooked to perfection and a tasty cheeseboard. Well done and highly recommended for special memories. Thanks Ruth for your excellent serviceMore

Had dinner here while staying at the Q Station. It’s convenient to your accomodation as it’s with the Q Station grounds. Either get the Q Station Shuttle or walk down the steep staircase. Limited menu and wine list. Busy, crowded, hospitable staff. Oysters very good!...Entrees - Beetroot tart, average, smothered with rocket, next to no beetroot, prosciutto and fig average, largely radicchio lettuce which has a bitter taste. Very little fig or prosciutto. Mains - Snapper was ok!! Lamb back strap laughable, consisted of three small slices of lamb, probably no more than 25 grams each, sitting on broccoli. Although I did enjoy it. We decided against dessert. After wine and public holiday surcharge almost $400😳 Far too expensive for the quality of food and the experience. Avoid.More
