We recently visited our daughter in Helensburgh and decided to get Fish and Chips from the Wee Kelpie. Nice portions and well cooked Fish and Chips and Mushy Peas. We went for the home made tartare sauce too which was lovely

I found the fish fresh, sweet and tender, and the chips had that crunchy outside but soft, yielding inside that I love. And the home-made tartare sauce was superb! The menu has some interesting items that you don't often see in a chippie - calamari, for example. Although the early evening was busy (it was 6pm), the staff were coping... More

Our first experience was terrible. The fish and chips we horrible they were mushy the batter on fish was not crisp. The chips were dried out. The staff were great, nice location but won't take out from there again.

It has a wonderful reputation in the town, and always has a long que at tea time ,but after having waited over 35 min for fish and chips i was a little bit let down. It wasn't bad by any means but it didnt meet my expectations from all the hype either. Its a decent average chippy

My wife and I were visiting from Canada during May 2014 and friends took us to The Wee Kelpie after a tour of the area, boasting they had the best fish and chippies anywhere .. imagine our delight, as while we were waiting, the young man behind the counter took a call from the owners who were attending a Scottish... We visited here based on a recommendation from the tourist information in Ballach. Ordered haddock and chips from this award winning chipperie. It was superb. Great taste from the beef dripping used. Highly recommended

Simply put, the best fish and chip takeaway I've had anywhere in the country. Fish (both Cod and Haddock) comes in huge portions, generously covered in crispy batter, whilst the chips are chunky and crisp. We regularly make a 50-mile round trip to come here as this place has ruined other chip shops for us!

The Wee Kelpie is located just on the seafront, so grab your fish and you can cool your feet in sea while enjoying your meal. The fish was fresh everytime we bought. The menu is very interesting - you can have choice of fresh or smoked fish, cod, halibut, haddock, scallops, you name it and you get it. Highly recommend.

The wee kelpie is a small but perfectly formed takeaway fish and chip shop that does the best fish I have ever tasted. The chips are light and fluffy and the tartar sauce is amazing. It's not the cheapest ever but I think the few £ extra you spend are more then worth the yummy meal you will enjoy. Definitely... More

The Wee Kelpie was recommended by our bed and breakast establishment in Helensburgh. Their menu is superb. What other fish and chip shop offers scallops with black pudding plus a choice of cod, haddock or hake? The staff give you a warm welcoming smile when you go in to place your order and they have seats to sit in while you...
