I had booked a table for 9 in the Bankes Arms Hotel to celebrate my 18th birthday and I can honestly say George and his staff went out of their way to be helpful. I was given a private room off the bar and staff frequently checked on us. The food was exemplary, the service very good and it was... More

Called in for a drink. Very nice welcome from the staff. Went out into the garden which is spacious and plenty of garden furniture without feeling cramped. Beautiful views of the Castle and Purbeck hill.

We visited with local friends who we were staying with. The ambience in the bar is great and I understand it has had a makeover - which is very sympathetic to its age and style. The service was friendly and the food came quickly. But I am afraid that they need a bit more attention to flavour and presentation. The... More

Visited Bankes Arms Hotel for a drink whilst watching the rugby, and decided to stay for dinner afterwards. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar food was excellent, my husband and myself shared the smoked mackerel pate from the specials board to start which was very good. For mains my husband had the steak which was cooked... More

Burger was obviously home made. And very tasty it was too. Bun was a bit over toasted but these things happen. However, was covered with lots of tasty things - mayo and condiments - couldn't fault it. The happy chappy on the bar would be a joy to anyone who walked in. We'd drived past to go to Wareham for... This pub appears to have been recently renovated and was quite attractive, Car parking is available at the rear. The pub was not busy on our Saturday evening meal and we all thought that the food was below average. Perhaps that's why it was not busy?? It was not well presented or served, the vegetables were not hot and served... More

After a long blustery December walk, we decided to eat here, and enjoy a welcome glass of wine by the cosy log fire. We were a group of four females plus dog, and were made to feel very welcome. The food wine and service was all faultless. All four meals were delicious and well presented, the cheese / pork pie... More

We had lunch here and enjoyed it. Wine by the glass was excellent, if a bit pricey, and the local beers very tasty. My ciabatta was a bit heavy on the mustard but otherwise very good value, and everything was cheerfully served in a pleasantly presented space.
