Everything well organised for the new normal. Excellent food. The special for the night was venison with seasonal vegetables. Absolutely first class. I quite like having drinks brought to the table as is now mandated and the Otter Beer and White wine didn’t fail to...please. Nice and warm in the bar with the open fire blazing and the Christmas Tree resplendent beside. Friendly service by the staff who looked as glad to be back as we were. Looking forward to our next visit.More

We were so looking forward to the last lunch of our holiday and chose The Cleave for this due to its tempting website menu. However this wasn't lived up to in either variety or quality. In particular their steak and mushroom pie which three of us...had was a dry affair with a suet topping which could compete with their thatched roof for resilience. On asking for gravy to soften the dish we were told that it might take a while! Service was amateurish and little note taken of our comments on food quality. Such a pity that supporting a most attractive, difficult to get to, venue in these difficult times was such a let down.More

Had a perfect meal here on Thursday- very clean and tidy pub in a beautiful setting! I had the halloumi and mushroom burger - it was gorgeous. Great portions and quality for the kids. Service was fab - the chap serving is was lovely and...we would have loved to tip him but had no change as everything is contacted lately due to Covid!! Thank you for such a great experience.More

Recently went here as a couple. The staff were very welcoming and the starters were great with a wide selection. However from there the meal went down hill... The main course of the green chicken curry tasted like no curry I've ever tried. No spice...or taste. The best part was the microwaved naan and the mango chutney. Post main course, the double espresso I ordered seemed to be more like an Americano than a double espresso. Overall a real shame as the pub had potential.More

We visited for lunch today and was very impressed with food, service and Covid measures. The gentleman who took order and brought food was very friendly and set you at ease in these uncertain times.

The pub is tucked away in the heart of the village and provides a real sense charm and character. The staff are really welcoming and service is smooth and efficient. The menu range was not huge, that matters not as our meals were all very...tasty, hearty and truly home comforting. The staff are all very CoVid aware, which is good, all I would say is take a jacket or an extra jumper.. as our table was subject to an open window and a chilly wind from a wide open door.More

A lovely pub in a charming location. Polite, friendly, helpful staff. A good choice of starters, mains and desserts, even for vegetarians. Food was tasty and served promptly. They handle the covid regulations well, providing a safe but relaxed atmosphere.

Excellent value for money. Lovely, traditional pub with some fantastic food. Couldn't fault it and will definitely be back next time we are near Lustleigh.

It was a miserable and rainy day. Retail therapy had failed to entertain us in the morning and we needed a moral boost. We picked the Cleave for lunch because it was nearby and one of us remembered the village being quaint. We were lucky...they had a table free, so I recommend you book. Anyway - what a find! Anti Covid-19 precautions are exemplary, with one way traffic, table only service, mask wearing, good table spacing and cling film wrapped cutlery. The service from the young man who looked after us and the food were superb. The Thai-style mussels to start were among the best I have ever tasted and the pork belly was heavenly. My vegetarian partner loved her garlic and herb mushrooms followed by vegetarian lasagne and her sister raved about the leek and potato soup and roast beef baguette with salad and an excellent coleslaw. We left with our bellies full and our spirits raised thanks to the Cleave. Highly recommended.More

They don't seem to have one on their website but I did not go for food just drinks. However there were lots of locals eating there which is always a good sign.
