Stayed here for the night, dinner was excellent, breakfast equally so, rooms very pleasant, and the atmosphere first class. Would have no hesitation in recommending this delightful place,

Very popular hotel with locals and tourists alike. Well advised to book, especially for Sunday lunch. Excellent, home-cooked food at a reasonable price. An old-fashioned pub in a good sense with beautiful, scenic walks nearby. Thoroughly recommended. Have heard many other excellent reviews, especially from locals.

We always have a pleasant evening at The Captains - there is a good choice of food (and wine), the service is good and the atmosphere is always comfortable.

I recently had dinner here with several friends. The home made chicken and leek pie was excellent, possibly the best one I have ever had. Nice wine, excellent service from the landlady herself, great atmosphere ! What's not too like ! A really enjoyable evening.

It's a pub, but, as pub food goes this was very good. My wife had a beautifully cooked local plaice, while I went for a grilled sirloin. The steak was medium rare, as requested, one the large side, tasty and tender. The accompanying chips were crisp and the local beer was excellent. All for a bit over £20 a head... More

Country pub, no sea views. Generous portions from friendly and helpful staff. Obviously popular with locals who outnumbered tourists.

Our meals were delicious, portion sizes good and service good too. What really spoiled it was the unpleasant loudness and swearing (lots of 'f' words) by customers at two different other tables. The bar staff could not have failed to hear it but made no effort to deal with it. It was busy so we could not move to another... More

The Captains is best described as an Inn with rooms, all 9 en suite bedrooms have been recently re-carpeted and are equipped with tv, tea and coffee facilities and complimentary toiletries.
The bar attracts locals and visitors alike and you are guaranteed lively banter around the bar area.
Whilst the bistro and bar area serves traditional bar meals, the Captains has gained a reputation in recent years for their Seafood dishes and the freshest of local fish. Reservations are not always necessary but to avoid disappointment it is suggested at the weekends and the busy summer months.
