Gullah cooking is the real southern "soul Food"...it's made with lots of love and in the style that defines the great food that the southern slaves created with very limited supplies.

The shrimp gumbo was all I had, and I wish I would of had a bigger bowl. If in Beaufort and you're looking for shrimp gumbo this is the place!

Bill Green is a man for all seasons. He has led the life of an outdoorsman, a chef, and an educator of the local Gullah youth. We experienced all three of these roles when we stopped at his restaurant on St. Helena Island. The menu was strictly Gullah low country food, all delicious. Fried fish was a favorite and the... Having spent a week in the low country, I was expecting this to be truly authentic and distinctive. Instead, it was basic, nothing surprising and a bit of a let-down. The Gullah heritage and tradition is amazing. If you are going to celebrate it, you should do so accurately, definitively and with exceptional taste.

Arrived mid-week for lunch. Place was empty. We were seated and given hot, but very stale, cornbread. Friend and I both had Shrimp gumbo. Shrimp was OK, But the dish tasted like bland tomato soup with canned vegetables. Unimpressed.

The very unassuming building houses a top notch restaurant where you can sample the real cuisine of the SC sea islands. Gullah cuisine is characterized by ingredients that have been available around the Lowcountry for centuries - seafood, okra, beans, collards, and other fresh ingredients that have served as the basis of the cuisine since the days of slavery. You... More

The food was amazing, cooked by the owner who was a local. Housed in a building that is 139 years old and full of history. There was one cook and one server, got to talk with both and learned some great cultural facts.

Whent here for lunch. The place was closed. Still recovering from Hurricane Matthew! As we were about to leave, Chef Green rolled up and invited us in. HI sp not over an hour, telling us about his cuisine, and we purchased 3 CD's demonstrating how to make Frogmore Stew, Gumbo, and Shrimp and grits! Chef Green identifies youngster "at rusk",... Bill the owner is actually a very interesting guy. The location is right in the middle of Frogmore. Local cuisine from a local. Can't get better than that

Chef Bill Green served my group of about 30 teachers during a conference on St. Helena Island. The Seafood Gumbo was delicious and the cornbread was moist and addictive. He and his wife are a treasure. If you want to get a peek at the place check out a cute little book on Amazon called My Trip to St. Helena... More
