The Shrimp and Grits and the Fried Okra were so good. The She Crab soup was okay, but could have used more spice. Our waiter was very overwhelmed, but extremely friendly. If we had had a time constraint, we may have been frustrated. Since we...had several hours before our next scheduled event, we were fine.More

Hard to pick just one thing to order. Everything was delicious. She crab soup was amazing. Fried chicken wonderful. Everything perfect. BUT.....the biscuit they served while waiting for the food was the best I have ever eaten. Our server was terrific. Thank you.

Why did it take us so long to discover Poogan's Porch? Located at 72 Queen Street in restaurant-rich Charleston, South Carolina, between Meeting and King streets, it was established in 1976. Open from 9 to 3 and 4:30 to 9:30 daily, it is Charleston's oldest...independent culinary establishment. It specializes in traditional southern cooking served in a 1898 Victorian townhouse with porches and a massive wine cellar. This is a fresh approach to Lowcountry cuisine, including she-crab soup, warm buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy and signature buttermilk fried chicken. I've been addicted to southern fried chicken since the late 1940s and Poogan's version is as good as it gets. For starters, we had pimento cheese fritters with bacon jam, bowls of she-crab soup with chives and seasons blue crab and iceberg wedge salad with hard boiled eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes and bacon. For an entree, my wife chose BBQ mahi mahi with pimento cheese grits, pulled pork and Creole mustard cream. She loves mahi mahi but this barbecued version was a whole new experience. I couldn't pass up Poogan's famous fried chicken with collard greens, mac and cheese and country ham gravy. For dessert, we shared large portions of pecan pie with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce and key lime pie with whipped cream. Dinner with Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara couldn't be any better.More

We had dinner 10/21, 3 couples, and the place seemed understaffed. But, the waitress was very good given this and we had no complaints. The food was just slightly over priced, but we had no complaints there either. The experience was good enough for 3...stars easy, but the few things that take it to a 4 were plenty of food serving size, drinks menu, and the busy bee server who made it work given the slightly short staff feeling.More

This place never disappoints! Best chicken and waffles! Service is great and the atmosphere is wonderful. You can’t visit Charleston and not go to Poogan’s!

Had a pleasant experience and enjoyed seeing such respectable college age young adults working and doing their best. It should be understood that most places in the service industry are grossly understaffed and the generally public should bring that into consideration and be more respectful...towards these young adults ( most supporting themselves through school)More

I went to Poogan's Poach for the first time this past month, and had the best time. The food was great, shrimp and grits were incredible, and our server, Joshua, or Josh was the best. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure that we had...a great experience. The place was packed and busy with people, but we were sat quickly, considering that we didn't have reservations, we were at our table quickly and Josh was at the table greeting us as soon as we sat down. He suggested some great appetizers and drinks which were great. The pimento cheese fitters were out of this world, and Josh's knowledge of the menu and drink selection impressed us all. I had the shrimp and grits and they lived up to being an award winner. My friends were celebrating a joint birthday and Josh went out of his way to make them feel special. I live in Charleston, and will be going back to Poogan's Poach, and I will be asking for Josh as our server, and I will be referring friends to visit and to ask for Josh. He made our experience memorable, and along with the great meal, we had an incredible time.More

6:15 on a Wednesday, not too crowded. On time for our reservation and sat at our table for over 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. She-crab soup (so so) arrived before our drink order. Poorly trained waitress told us the special was Trout, turns out...it was Tuna - dry and overcooked because she didn’t know enough to ask how we’d like it prepared. No sauce, white rice with bland boiled shrimp and sautéed green beans. We didn’t complain - it was edible but not exactly the fine dining experience we expected and paid for. Too bad - Poogan’s used to be really good. Not recommended.More

Four of us went for dinner on October 13th, 2021 to celebrate a 60th birthday, reservations at 7 we got there a little early and they were able to seat us sooner, great! Upon seating our waiter JoshUA, made it very clear not to call...him Josh, ok fine, he chatted it up with us and got our drink orders. Afer waiting about 10 minutes (we could see him at the bar with our drinks as we waited) he brought 2 cocktails, a flight of whiskey and a can of beer and then asked if my husband wanted a glass for his beer, said yes and he disappeared again for 5 minutes while holding the can of beer in his hand to get warm, which it did. We ordered appetizers, Pimento cheese fritters, Fried green tomatoes, they came out cold. He took our dinner order, my husband had the Shrimp and Grits, it was ok-nothing special, I had the BBQ Mahi Mahi with pulled pork, pimento grits and a creole mustard cream- obviously our dinners sat waiting to be served as the grits were cold and had stiffened to solid form, the fish tasted frozen surrounded by a watery reddish sauce I'm assuming was the the BBQ portion of the meal, the 2 pieces of "pulled" pork were good and the "creole mustard cream sauce was a glob of stone ground seeded mustard, it was just awful!! When our friend ordered the catch of the day, it was tuna, JoshUA never asked how would you like it cooked, so I asked how would you like your tuna cooked, our friend said medium rare, it came out well done with beautiful cross hatch grill marks, his wife ordered the Famous fried chicken- she said it was good. The biscuits they served with the meal were raw, not even slightly browned. The place was not that busy. JoshUA was more interested in chatting at the bar then serving his tables, cold appetizers and dinner, raw biscuits and warm beer. The best part of the meal was the ginger whiskey that I had a sip of.... I guess we should have had a few dozen glasses of that before we attempted to eat!! Do yourself a favor and dine elesewhere!More

We parked at the town information center's huge garage and took the "FREE" bus service all around town . You are able to hop on and off, and the bus routes cover the entire town.
