A member of our party saw an advertisement for Hyman's so we thought that we would try it. It was an excellent choice! We had the best hush puppies that I have ever tasted. And I must say, hush puppies are not my favorite food. We tasted the green tomatoes with cheese and grits with roumalade. The she crab soup... More

We traveled to Charleston, SC with a tour group. We had never been to Hyman's Restaurant, boy was I glad we went there. They greeted us with fresh made hush puppies - very yummy. Our dinner included fried green tomatoes with cheesy grits, she crab soup, and salad. I had salmon and shrimp as an entree you had your choice... More

Hyman's is a must if you are visiting Charleston. It is located in an old, historic building right smack dab in the middle of historic Charleston. Take note all of the real pictures and autographs of celebrities that have eaten there. Our seafood was wonderful, and done to perfection. The scallops were the best we ever had. The service was... A long time restaurant with very good seafood. True Maryland style crab cakes with good size lumps and balance in seasoning. Soft shells were very good.

As a local I've heard the remarks about Hyman's being a tourist trap. I'm not even sure what that means (can't tourists have good taste too?). Anyhoo, I made it to this venerable institution to decide on my own. I started with a Bloody Mary and was amazed at the presentation. Chock full of veggies/olives/fruit and full of spicy goodness.... By reading previous reviews, we felt that this place was a must visit. Sadly I feel that it is living on past reputation, when healthy choices did not matter. The walls and tables are decorated with memories of celebrities from bygone days, making it an interesting locale. It is geared to tourists, and even the exit is through their branded... More

We heard Hyman's was a must experience dining event, but they exceeded our expectations! Their version of fried green tomatoes creates a new level of culinary delights. Their version of shrimp and grits is in a category of its own. Good selection of beers!

I had the fish and chips, my husband had boom, boom shrimp. Apps we had crab dip and fried green tomato with grits and cheese. Side of hush puppies. So, good. This is definitely a great place to visit. The staff is wonderful and the owner comes to the table to make sure you are taken care of. Will definitely... More

After reviewing the Official Visitors Guide for Charleston, we wanted our first meal in Charleston to be here. Located in downtown, historic district in an old building with the "main" menu on large signs on various walls. Lots of photos of people who over many years of operation that have eaten there. One unique feature is a small metal tag... More

Hymans is a Charleston landmark. Although there is always a line, the place is huge and they seat you quickly. A large menu makes it difficult to decide, but everything is delicious. Portions are also quite large. And, children get a free ice cream at their store.
