They have the best Almond Torte that I have ever had the pleasure to eat. They also have the best breakfast sandwiches. If you ever have the opportunity to eat or take home any products from Prantl's make sure you give it a try!!! Customer...More

Delicious, as usual. I bought one for my son''s birthday. Actually, I bought two because I didn't think one would suffice. They have a minimum 48 hour preorder time. You have to wait for a call back to talk to them. It didn't take long.

I am a huge fan of the originator of the burnt almond torte!! An amazing invention deserves routine consumption. I did pick up an 8x8 out of the case and I thought it was dry. Normally when I want one I order one and it...More

We had special ordered a birthday cake for approx 30 people. Very dissapointed- you could tell it was not fresh. Tasted right out of the freezer. Very disappointing and embarrassing .

We were sent by our son and his wife to buy a Burnt Almond Torte, which is a house favorite and comes in three versions -- custard, chocolate, and "travel". The first two have to be refrigerated before consumption and as we weren't able to...More

Pranti's is known for their burnt almond torte cake - delicious - but a tad expensive at $45. Try the chocolate burnt almond torte cake or the chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookies. Well worth the treatment you'll give your taste buds.

Description
Prantl's Bakery is a Pittsburgh institution. Its "Burnt Almond Torte" and 100+ sinful sweets have been a tradition for the last 40 years. In fact, there's been a bakery in continuous operation at the flagship Shadyside store for over 100 years. Prantl's is a bakery in the German tradition, with old-fashioned fruit Danish and nut-filled coffeecakes, but we can't help but get excited about some of our "new favorites" as well, like key lime pie and our buttery croissants. In addition to our mouth watering special order cakes, we are famous for our "Burnt Almond Torte", which was conceived by Henry Prantl after a trip to California. There was an almond glut the year he went and the Almond Board was trying to get bakers to use almonds in new and inspiring ways. Henry picked up a few ideas and brought them back to Pittsburgh where he refined them into our current recipe for "Burnt Almond Torte", a unique and addictive dessert. If you've never had one, you really do have to try one. If you have had one, you know what we're talking about! Henry and Jane Prantl retired from the business in 2007. The bakery is now owned and operated by John M. Felice, who strives to maintain the tradition of high quality baked goods. We hope you agree . .
