Our party of five tried a variety of samplings including tenderloin stroganoff, macaroni and cheese, salad, buffalo cauliflower, sandwiches and vegetable plate. I am the first to admit, I am very picky (see my 325+ reviews). Every single bite of food I had was delicious. This was by far, the best casual dining experience I can remember eating at in... More

This is probably my favorite brewery in town based off the quality alone. They had like two fruity beers and one wheat with banana undertones which makes me want to do some day drinking on a regular basis! As for the other beers, even if it's not my typical choice they are still solid tasty beers. I heard from a... More

Thank you - so glad you enjoyed the beers and food! I also wanted to mention that Penn actually does have a section of our biergarten where guests are welcome to bring their pets - so please feel free to bring your furry friends along next time you visit. Prost! More

This place is an old brewery on the North Side of Pittsburgh that serves a great selection of authentic German-style beers and food, including Schnitzel and Bratwurst. The food was delicious and very reasonably-priced. I was not a fan of the German Hot Potato Salad - it was drizzled with some sugary syrup that made it entirely too sweet. I... More

The Penn Brewery is in an old, 19th century brick and wrought iron building. It is a place with a lot of atmosphere and great beers brewed on site. I make it a point to stop in whenever I am in Pittsburgh.

We went on a week night and it was quiet. The brews were very good and the meats and cheeses platter was good.

I wish there was a three-and-a-half star rating. Penn Brewery was better than average but not quite good enough to get my 4-stars. So pretend I put 3.5 stars. The main thing is that I probably will go back. Their beer is phenomenally good! My favorite Pittsburgh-based beer by FAR! During my lunch, I had the in-house Scottish Ale. Yummy... More

Get the Cuban sandwich since it is delicious. The beer sampler was a great way to try different styles. I ate at the bar and service was quick and friendly.

Came here on a recommendation. Not likely to come back. My companions food was good but mine not so much. I had ordered the weekly special Pierogies (even though it was Wednesday evening, our server did not know what the weekly special was - more on him later) which turned out to be Buffalo Chicken. I had been spoiled earlier... More

Penn Brewery began brewing craft beer back in 1986, making us one of the earliest pioneers in the American craft movement. We started out brewing classic lagers and German beer styles, adhering to the strict quality standards of the 16th-century Bavarian Reinheitsgebot purity laws. As we’ve expanded our lineup in recent years to include IPAs and other contemporary styles like chocolate and pumpkin beers, we’ve stayed true to our quality craftsmanship, brewing all of our beers by hand with top-tier barley and hops. We’re proud to say that Penn beers have won a total of nineteen Great American Beer Festival® and World Beer Cup® medals.
Penn Brewery’s restaurant serves “ethnic-Pittsburgh” fare including wurst, schnitzel, pierogi, and goulash alongside contemporary Pittsburgh favorites, like the "French fry salad," flatbreads, and sandwiches. In the spirit of our classic Pittsburgh theme, our menu emphasizes fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Penn is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. A lovely cobblestone biergarten is open seasonally. Private party bookings are also available.
