I would choose McDonald’s over this restaurant for a philly cheese steak and they don’t even serve them!

I cannot understate how much I love cheesesteaks. I am not one to limit my cheesesteak to a certain style, and I enjoy them from a number of different establishments. That said, the ONE thing that is an absolute must for me is melted cheese....More
Captn’ Gus’s Steak Shop been around longer than I can remember. Cheesy decor. Odd customers but awesome subs! I haven’t eaten here in over 15 years and nothing has changed. Maybe the oil. But thats about it. You dont stay in business as long as...More
Only in Lancaster do they put sauce on a Philly cheesesteak sub!!! Plus the cheese is not melted into the steak, it's a slice of cheese added like it's an Italian sub. Plus this place is voted # 1 , by god who knows, as...More
Gus's has been around for quite a long time. More of a locals joint! Steak sandwiches are a little greezzy but tastey. Place is old and looks a little dirty but they are always busy. Seems like a local favorite but not mine!
I think captain Gus's is a little overhyped just because of its history but that being said it's still worth a try. Place is very small and not a big selection of food. Ordered a cheesesteak and fries. The portion of the fries were very...More
Idk this place is alright I guess but in my opinion it's a bit pricey for the size of their cheesesteaks. Worth checking out though because it is a Lancaster staple and just a cool little restaurant. I feel like it went a little downhill...More
I grew up in Lancaster and Gus' is a place I always stop when I'm home for a visit. Now, it is not a pat's, geno's, or tony Luke's from Philly but it's damn good competition. The cheesesteaks are great, cheeseburger subs are great and...More
No way like Philadelphia cheesesteaks. I grow up in Phila. There cheesesteaks are not even close to how Phila cheesesteaks are. Captain Gus's steaks are fatty, and they taste just like the frozen Stake- umm that they sell at the grocery store.
Obviously its not Philly, but the Philly cheesesteak benefits from the experience of being in Philly. Gus's is good and affordable. Slightly rundown building gives a kittle of that South St appeal.
